Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellassie I & Itege Menen Asfaw,

I welcome you all to a new regeneration of cycle Torah readings!  This is another one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (or Yefdeyah).

I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with a willing mind and heart(ready to learn), you will receive more than what you might have asked for, in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) into the study of the Scriptures.

So,with this Hebrew Shabbot(or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to the opening of  the Torah portions with Lecḥ Lecḥá – לֶךְ-לְךָ .  On the Jewish or Hebraic Calendar in this year 5777, this Sabbath day would probably fall on the 10th – י , & the 11th יא, of the month of Cḥeshw(v)an – חֶשְׁוָן, [this Hebraic month is also known as; Mar’Cḥeshw(v)an – מַרְחֶשְׁוָן, for this week, in this mode of study;  for those out in the diaspora or outside of Jerusalem/Israel.  (The Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon) &, from an Ethiopic-Christian perspective, in what may be known as the year 2009/2029/7509, on the Ethiopic calendar.  This calculation, with its readings from the Scriptures, would align to the 2nd – ፪, & the 3rd – ፫,  of the (ወርኀ)month of Cḥídâr – ኅዳር [ሕዳር/ህዳር].  In the Scriptures, this portion of study would also be known as Tӓlӓytӓ Wӓṭăh – ተለይተህ ወጣThe Ethiopic calendar is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet-ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic, which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez-(ግእዝ).

Leaving off with descendants of Noah, from the last portion of the Scripture studies, LeKH’ LeKH’a-לֶךְ-לְךָ is the set of readings for this Sabbath.

Abram of Ur, in Chaldea, a descendant of Noah, was spoken to by God.

Abram, was told by God to leave his country and people, in Chaldea.  So Abram, left with Sarai(his wife), and Lot(his nephew) traveled south.  God sought to bless Abram, exceedingly.

Famine in those lands took Abram to Egypt, where passed off his wife, as his sister; for he feared he would be killed because of her beauty, in the sight of the Egyptians.

 But, because of her beauty Pharaoh sought to entreat her, for he sought to make her a wife of his.  But, his mind was plagued because of Sarai(Abram’s wife).  So much so, that he confronted Abram about the situation and ended up sending on their way peacefully, with quite hefty caravan.

While in Egypt, Abram and his family acquired very much, in riches.  But, if got to the point where there was strife among them, (within their camps).  Lot(Abram’s nephew) and Abram, consolidated to negotiate not to struggle with each other for there was so much land, that they need not quarrel over anything.

But, the men of Sodom, near where Abram had made a place for him cattle, herds, and possessions were a wicked and distasteful people.  Wickedness abounded so much so, to the point that Abram separated himself from among them, at Mamre, in Hebron.

War, in those days, between many kings of many nations, brought Sodom & Gomorrah to an expected destruction.

Fortunately, Abram was able to bring Lot out, just before meeting Melchizedek; the king of Salem.

Abram, was then blessed by God, in that by his wife Sarai, who was barren, would give birth to a son. (even in their old age)  Abram was given vision by God, that his seed would be innumerable, for he would be the father of many nations.  God instructed Abram, to make offerings, he did it & guarded it.

Then Abram had visions of the future generations of his to come.

Sarai, feeling as though she had been restrained by God from bearing any children, gave Abram, her maid, Hagar(Agar), who was an Egyptian, in attempt beget children of AbramHagar, conceived of Abram, but saw Sarai, differently afterwards. (by contempt)  Sarai, then feeling as though she brought about strife in Abram‘s house, she brought the plight to Abram, and wanted Abram to put her away.  God, complied because he sought to make the child of Hagar & Abram, a mighty nations of his own. (his name would be Ishmael)

Hagar & Isma'il (ibn Ibrahim)

Between Abram & God, was a covenant made: for he would the father of many nations, and be fruitful exceedingly, kings would be from him, the land between the two rivers would be of his possession, & the land of Canaan would be for an everlasting possession, his seed shall circumcise their flesh(males); also he & his wife would have new names.  Instead of Abram, his name would be Abraham & instead of Sarai, her name would be Sarah.

Abraham would also have a son, which he would name Isaac, his son Ishmael would grow to be a mighty nation.

Ras Tafari Renaissance writes to give perspective to the Ethiopic Tewahido-Orthodox, celebration of Fasika.  In other circles of the Liturgical adherents to the Ethiopian Tewahido-Orthodox Church, the name for this observance, can also be called Be’al Tinsa’e-በዓል ትንሣኤ.  I refrain from using the Western Christendom adherances to the psuedo-equivalent, known as Easter; mainly because at the sheer core of the observance of Easter, stems from Greco-Roman Mythology(Eros, Easter Eggs, Easter Bunny, Greek Mythology etc.), and the origin of the celebration of Fasika, comes from the Hebraic, Passover(Pesach/PesaKH’-פֶּסַח) & Feast of Unleavened Bread (KH’ag/Chag Ha’Motz’ot-Chag ha-Matzot (in Hebrew)).

Fasika commemorates the Resurrection of CHRIST, though the exact day for celebration can be calculated from a perspective that is only slightly in contrast to the original calculation.  Through and through, Fasika assuredly gives a better foundation in the surreal conclusion that is the life of CHRIST.

Fasika is an extremely climatic celebration, like the Roman Catholic Church fasting season(often called “Lent“), but predating it by hundreds of years, the Ethiopian Tewahido-Orthodox Church adherents go into a fasting, and prayer period consisting of about approx., 40-to-56 days.  This important and soul-searching, period of time is known to the adherents as Hudade-ሑዳዴ, or Abiy’ Ts’ome-ዓቢይ ጾመ.

The Church, in her earliest days, recognized the necessity for her children to “chastise the body and bring it under subjection”, as St. Paul advises.  The body is ever striving for mastery over the spirit; besides the external sources of temptation, “the world”, we have always another source with us which is a part of our nature. This is the reason for mortificationSelf denial is in lawful things enables us to turn with great earnestness to spiritual things.  It is on these grounds that the Ethiopian church has strictly adhered to the injunctions of the Didascalia and enjoyed upon the faithful, the longest and most austere fasts in the world.  Fasting implies abstention from food and drink, in one sense of understanding. Special days are appointed for fasting.

Every Wednesday and Friday, are days of fasting because on Wednesday the Jews held a council in which they rejected and condemned our Lord (Jesus/Iyesus) and on Friday they crucified him;  according the Christian theology.

The fasting of this particular, observance in the Tewahido Church – (Ethiopian Orthodox Christian Church) are ordained by the Fät’há Nägäst – or plainly translated to English as the “Law of the Kings.”

During “Lent” (Hudade/Abiy Ts’om) in Ethiopia, Christians don’t eat or buy any animal products like meat, eggs, butter, milk, yogurt, cream and cheese.

On Palm Sunday, people wear head bands and rings made of palm leaves with crosses marked on them.

The first  Easter Day (Fasika/Tinsa’e) service actually starts at 8.00pm on Easter Saturday night and lasts until 3.00 am on “Easter” Sunday  (Resurrection Sunday) morning! Most people go to the whole service and wear their best clothes. These are often white and are called ‘YeAbesha Libs‘ in the modern time of today more originally “YeEtyopiayawiyan Libs“.  People have candles made of cotton and wax called ‘twaf‘.  At 10.00 pm drummers start playing and accompanying the Priests as they chant a prayer called the ‘Geez‘. (or the Ancient Ethiopic language)

So, with this Hebrew Shabbot(or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, nonetheless studied either the Torah portion of Ki-Tá(b)vō-כִּי-תָבוֹא, from the Jewish or Hebraic Calendar in the year 5774 year, this Sabbath day, (as the Hebraic year comes to a close) would probably be accounted for as the 17th-יז, & the 18th-יח,  day of the Hebrew month of the month of Elūl-אֱלוּל(the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon) From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known also as, BeGébáh’m Gïzéy-በገባህም ጊዜ.  This would calculate as the 2nd-፪, & the 3rd-፫, of the month(ወርኀ) of Meskerém-መስከረም.  The Ethiopic calendar is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet-ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic, which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church(the other language being Ge’ez-(ግእዝ).

This study portion of the Scriptures, deals with the children of Israel, in what order they should follow upon entering into the Land, which God had promised their foreparents.

THIS SABBATH STUDY PORTION, LAYS OUT EXACTLY HOW THE HEBREW PEOPLE WOULD BE BLESSED; ALBEIT, THEY KEPT & TOOK HEED OF THE ALL THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD, OR CURSED, IF THEY WERE TO TURN AWAY FROM WHAT THEY WERE MOSES HAD TAUGHT THEM; BY WAY OF GOD’S WORD.

So, the children of Israel were to present the firstfruits(or the first portions of their harvests) of the land to the priests, and the priests were to present these firstfruits upon the altar; giving thanks & praise to God, because while in bondage/servitude the children of Israel, sewed seeds but did not reap the benefits of their labor. (for they’d worked to satisfy the needs wants of others)  In the Land of Promise, the children of Israel were at the liberty to sew their seeds with gladness and joy, keeping to the ways they were taught out of the Law of Moses.

Tithing: For the children of Israel, the third year, was when it would acceptable for them to give a tenth of all their harvests, appropriated to the: Levitical-Priesthood, the strangers/guests/foreigners (interpreted from the Ancient Languages of the Scriptures) which would be living among the children of Israel, along with the fatherless (or the orphaned), & the widowed.  This kind of tithing would be a testament to the children of Israel being the chosen, peculiar people (vrs.19) upon the face of the Earth, that within their gates which God had provided/promised to them, they would most certainly seek to feed, clothe & shelter.

Moses, and the elders of the Twelve Tribes of Israel, then charged the Hebrew people to keep all of the commandments, laws and statutes which were set out for them; and upon crossing over the river Jordan into the Land of Promise, on Mount Ebal-(ጌባል ተራራ/הר עיבל‎), the children of Israel were build an altar with whole stones to God-writing the Law(Torah) on these great stones.  This mountain was to be a mountain where peace offerings were to be made to God.

Now, with this ordination, there then came the two mountains.  Moses & the Levites spoke to the Hebrew people, explaining that upon these works, the children of Israel should take heed to themselves, for they were to become the people of God; pending, they would harken to his laws.

Moses then said, these shall stand upon Mount Gerizim(ገሪዛን ተራራ/הר גּרזים) to bless the people: Simeon, Levi , Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin:

(verse 12) And these shall stand upon Mount Ebal to curse the people: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulon, Dan, and Naphtali.
