Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellassie I & Itege Menen Asfaw,

This is another one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee).

I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with a willing mind and heart(ready to learn), you will receive more than what you might have asked for, in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to seek insight) into the study of the Scriptures.  So, with this Hebrew Shabbat(or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, nonetheless studied the Torah portion of Ph(F)ïncḥas פִּינְחָס, on the 18th – יח, & the 19th – יט, of the month of Tammuz – תמוז, in the year of 5780 (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)  From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation, where the current year is 2012/7512; these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known, also as Feenḥas – ፊንሐስ, on the 3rd, & on the 4th – , of the month (ወርኀ) of Sänæy – ሰኔ.  The Ethiopic calendar, which is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet – ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez – ግእዝ).

In this study, we continue in the accordance to the last portion.(Balak)  After what had become the Heresy of Baal-Peor, Phineas, the son of Eleazar, and the grandson of Aaron(Moses’ brother), lead in a moments notice, with zealot acts.

Phineas, in which this parsha study is named, from the Hebrew and the Ethiopic Amharic, had slain a Midianitish woman, who’s name was Cozbi, and a Simeonite prince of Israel; who’s name was Zimri.   These two, along with many others partook in the turning away from God, in the sin of Baal-Peor.  Phineas, had stood up for Israel, turning God’s wrath away from them because of his zealous act and understanding of the covenant that was to be kept, between Israel & YHWH.

So, in a sense, because Phineas was willing to give his all to his God & for his people; seeing as how the Moabites and Midianites had conspired against Israel to bring them out of the favor of God; Phineas even went to the extent of going to war for God and them(children of Israel).  Phineas’ actions coupled with his faith as well, opened the door in which God gave a Covenant of Peace.  He and his those of his lineage would partake in it, continuing the Priesthood, among the lineage of Aaron(Moses’ brother).

Moses, was then instructed by God to take an account(census), for the second time, of the children of Israel, by family(or tribal lineage). [other census was taken in Numbers Chpt. 1: 1-16]

Because, of the waywardness of Israel’s faithfulness to God, their numbers dwindled and grew in spurts, while in the wilderness.  (ie. the Golden Calf, the Rebellion of Korah, and at this point; post- the Heresy of Baal-Peor…not forgetting the other instances withing Israel while in the wilderness)  So, Moses was instructed to take Eleazar, the High Priest(son of Aaron; father of Phineas), and number the children of Israel, once again, for God had said the because of the disobedience of this people, they should not enter into my rest.  But the children that would come after them would partake in the covenant, made the Abraham, Isaac & Jacob; albeit that those children of the generation of the Exodus from Egypt, would uphold the covenant and abide by the laws, commandments and statutes of God.

The children of Israel, were numbered by their tribal lineages, for the second time, by Moses and Eleazar; for God was preparing to bring the children of the Israelites, who made the Exodus from Egypt to the wilderness; into the Land that was Promised.

At this point, when the children of Israel, were receiving their plots and inheritances of the land, the Daughters of Zelophehad, came to Moses and the congregation in attempt to procure, the inheritance due to their father, who had passed & had no son pass his lineage to; for he(Zelophehad) had five daughters.  Usually, the children of Israel made it customary for the son to inherit the lot of his father’s.

Moses, in sincerity, took the Daughters of Zelophehad’s case to God, & God explained to Moses that though the children of Israel kept customary morals, the Daughters of Zelophehad had a very probable case.  God instructed to grant the daughters the plot that was to be allotted to their father, had he bear a son, whom would carry on his lineage among Israel.  From then on, it would not be a question whether or not a man bear a son to inherit his plot; because, the laws for possessing an inheritance from one parents among Israel, would not only come as a responsibility to the male children among Israel, but the responsibility would also come to the daughters, as well.

God then spoke to Moses, saying, go up to Mount Abarim, and see the land which will give to the children of Israel, to dwell.  Moses, could view the land from afar, but he couldn’t enter in, because of his disobedience at the waters of Meribah, in Kadesh(when Moses struck the ROCK); so Moses would be gathered to his people, along with the generation that wandered in the wilderness.

Moses, spoke to God, atop Mount Abarim, requesting that he appoint the children of Israel, another who would succeed him in leading the Israel into the Promised Land.

There God said to Moses, that Joshua, the son of Nun, should succeed him, in leading the children of Israel into the Promised Land.  Moses was to take Joshua, in front of Eleazar, the High Priest, and before the congregation of all the Hebrews to give him the charge & honour in the place of himself. Now, in continuance of our studies of Torah, we come to the parsha(portion) of Korah’.  Now, in this study of the Scriptures, a Levite, named Korah’ (ben-Izhar = son of Izhar), joins himself with Dathan & Abiram, who are Reubenites (of the Tribe of Reuben), and two-hundred & fifty princes of Israel.  This group began a rebellion, that challenged the authority of Moses and Aaron, among the children of Israel.

God instructed Moses and Aaron, to get away from Korah and his rebellious few, and tell the children of Israel to separate themselves as well; for he would consume them

God then, spoke to Moses to tell Eleazar(Aaron’s son; a Priest of Levi), to take the censors of Korah, which they took in the Tabernacle for the fire and the incense, and make them broad plates for a covering of the altar.  “They shall be a sign to the children of Israel.”

The next day the children of Israel, murmured against Moses & Aaron, saying, “…they killed people of God…,” and then a plague fell upon them(Israel) and more died, even after those of Korah’s Rebellion suffered judgment.

God then, instructed Moses to gather the staffs of the Princes Of Israel; one for each of the tribes (12) and adding one more the tribe of Levi, in which, Aaron would be the head.  (making that thirteen [13] staff-rods).  God would then choose the staff to show where he would place his authority among the children of Israel, to put an end to their murmuring.  Moses, took the staffs and placed them in the Tabernacle of Witness.

The very next morning, Moses entered into the Tabernacle, only to find that Aaron’s rod, had blossomed and brought forth buds, and also yielded almonds.  Moses brought forth the staff of Aaron, by God’s command to be a witness/memorial to Israel of God’s will way.  Whomsoever go against God’s way would not share in his rest.

God then spoke to Aaron, saying, that he and his sons (lineage), were to perform the duties of service in the Tabernacle, so no wrath would anymore fall upon Israel.  The Levites were to administer the reception of of offerings made by the children of Israel to God in the Tabernacle; but they wouldn’t have an inheritance as the rest of the children of Israel(Tribes) had.  The reason being was & is, because the “tithes” of Israel would be given to them by God.

(The Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon) but, from an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation in the year of 2012/7512 E.C.; these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known as Lǎk Tĭlkalach’hu – ላክ ትልካላችሁ, on the 12th – ፲፪, & on the 13th – ፲፫, of the month (ወርኀ) of Sänæy – ሰኔ.  The Ethiopic calendar, which is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet – ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez – ግእዝ).

In continuation from the last study-portion; (MeSeder HaElohim [מסדר האלוהים] “in the Order of God/JAH/YAH“) we come to the 13th chapter of the kifil-ክፍል (portion), of Shelach’ Lecha’ [שְׁלַח-לְךָ]  In the Book of Numbers, this 37th parsha-kifil, Moses is now instructed by God to send the chosen Princes of Israel to search/spy/scout the land (Canaan), which God had promised to the children of Israel.

The spies or scouts were to instructed to go the south mountain *[note: to be discussed (TBD)], to see the land (how it looked/upon view), see what people dwelt there, & if the people there were strong or weak, if there were few or many. They were also instructed to see if the land be a good land, what cities in the land were inhabited, and if those cities (inhabited) were “strongly held.”  They were to be “of good courage” and bring fruits of the land to prove that it had been seen, for it was the due season of the “first-fruits.”

*TBD= Ras Tafari Renaissance, comes to a note that could be interpreted, for futher study.  Numbers chapter 13, verse 17; gives instruction by Moses(whom received it from God) to the men, who were scout the land of Canaan, to “Get you up this way, southward and go up to the mountain.” Ras Tafari Renaissance “dibbled & dabbled,” interacting more with the Hebrew Bible(תּוֹרָה), studying the Scriptures from the Hebrew origin{language} & come to the word Negeb(v)-נֶּגֶב ; when the Scripture speaks of the mountain southward, which the men sent by Moses were to see the land.  The Negeb(v) desert of southern modern Israel is indeed mountainous.*

The scouts took up the fruits of the land, as instructed, at the Brook of Eshol.  They took the cluster of grapes, pomegranates, and figs; then they returned to the wilderness where Israel was encamped & gave their reports of the land (which they stayed 40 days) from their searching.

Caleb brought a good report to Moses, Aaron, and those of the congregation that heard him.  Even, so much so that Caleb said, “…Let us go up at once, and possess it, for we are well able to overcome it…”[Numb. 13: 30]  But, the men that went with him brought a evil/bad report (evil-because it was wrapped in lies tied to some of the truth); “…the land eat(eth) up the inhabitants…, [all the people were of great stature]…”

At the sounds of the ten evil/bad reports of the scouts, who came to give their assessment on the land which was promised to the Hebrews; the children of Israel wept and began to murmur against Moses and Aaron, for they saw the ten evil/bad reports as truth, also that God had brought them out of Egypt and into the wilderness to die.  The children of Israel had planted seeds in their own minds from the bad reports that their wives and their children, would become prey, as they fell by the sword.  They even saw it may have been better to return to Egypt.  So much so, that they spoke to each other to make a captain that would campaign to take them back to Egypt.

Moses and Aaron, then fell on their face before the congregation of Hebrews, for they could not comprehend why the children of Israel, would go as far to think, the things they were thinking.  Then Joshua and Caleb, told the truth about the report on the scouting of the land, the people (the Amorites, Jebusites, & Hittites resided in the mountains: the Amalekites to the south: & also the Canaanites resided near the sea and the coast of the Jordan [river].

Then, God became angered with Israel because of their weak faith and murmuring; for their provoking, he sought to destroy them

Moses then, interceded for the children of Israel and because of his pleading words to God, their lives were spared.  But, God would not allow them to enter into the Land of Promise.  Forty years, in the wilderness, would their children wander bearing the whoredoms of their parents.

The laws and statues, rules and regulations for the offerings/sacrifices that were to be administered upon entry into the land that was promised, were reiterated to the children of Israel.

God then spoke to Moses, telling him to instruct the children of Israel to make fringes upon the borders of their garments; the fringes were also to have a ribband of blue.  These fringes, with the ribband of blue were for the children of Israel to keep throughout their generations.  The fringes were to be a reminder of the commandments of God, and that they should observe them and do(keep) them.  The Israelites were to look[observe]upon the fringes, and keep[do] the commandments of God; to not seek after their own hearts and eyes, which would take them ‘a whoring’ away.

Laws and ordinances, on servitude, child rearing, crime, and other aspects, are covered for the children of Israel to observe and do.  This has been accounted for as the covenant upon Mount Sinai.

Feast of Unleavened Bread

(Passover – פֶּסַח), is a memorial of the Exodus from Egypt. It also observes, the avoiding all leavened grain products and similar foods of consumption.  Most families or communities tell stories of the Exodus traditionally. Pesach(Passover) usually lasts eight days (for some others it may comprise seven days): Passover’s equivalent in Ethiopian Jewish/Hebrew tradition is called (Fasika – ፋሲካ) from other translated sources Fasika, is the equivalent for the meaning from/into Easter; in the English. Fasika has been an upkeep from the traditions and teachings of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church, since around fourth century A.D.  Even, for what is known as a Christian church, this festival of Fasika(Easter/Passover) holds significance than what is known as Christmas. Fasika succeeds an approx., 56-day fasting period, which is has certain relevancy to the Western Christian ideas of Lent. Fasika, is known to be a a day of high celebration.

Also, in continuance of the giving of the laws, statutes and commandments, along with the judgments of YHWH; the children of Israel were also given more times of observances for the Hebrew people.  These observances have become, what is known as the Moed’im – מועדים.

Now, the second of these important feasts is the Feast of Weeks/Harvest, (Shav(b)uot/KH’ag Shab(v)uotחג שבעות) commemorates the day God gave the Torah/the LAW to the entire nation of Israel which had come to be assembled at Mount Sinai.  Shavuot is linked to Passover, it also concludes the Counting of the Omer, of the seven weeks/counting of God’s festivals.

and at the Feast of Tabernacles/Succoth. (Sukkot – סֻכּוֹת) The Feast of the Ingathering, is celebrated on the 15th day of the month of Tisrei, on the Hebrew/Jewish calendar. Moses told the children of Israel to gather for a reading of the Law during Sukkot every seventh year (Deut. 31:10-11).  Sukkot is a seven day holiday, and part of what is known in Jewish tradition as the Chol HaMoed(festival weekdays). Jethro, then advises Moses on structuring the command of the children of Israel into a sort of order of civil officers, after bringing his wife and two sons(Gershom; who’s name has the meaning of “I have been an foreigner in a strange land,” & Eliazar; who’s name has the meaning of, “the GOD of my father, is mine help & delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh”) from Midian to the wilderness.

Jethro, then entreats the GOD of Israel, sighting him as greater then all gods. Then Jethro took a burnt offering and sacrificed to the GOD of Israel, & broke bread with Moses, Aaron, & all the elders of Israel.

Moses, takes heed to his father-in-law’s words, & assembles all the tribes of Israel and appoints heads over them.  These heads(of the tribes) would discern small matters and only bring matters that were of great concern to Moses, to not wear heavy on him, burdens of an entire nation.

Whenever GOD came to speak to Moses, to lay out instructions for Israel to follow, GOD came in a cloud of fire upon the Mount in Sinai. In discontent, and the words of some of the attendants in the Egyptian court, Pharaoh’s heart was hardened [by God], so Pharaoh summoned for 600 of his first choice of chariots, along with all the chariots of Egypt, with the captains of them & was in “hot-pursuit” of returning the children of Israel back to Egypt (& back to servitude).  Fearful of the pursuit of the chariots of Egypt, the children of Israel, cried out to God, & turn to Moses, in disbelief of the happenings in front of them. Moses, then commands them to fear not, for the God of Israel will do battle for them.  They are to continue to walk by faith &, to remember the ideal to do good works.

Moses, was then commanded by God to stretch forth his rod, & God split the Sea of Reeds(Red Sea), and the children of Israel traveled through on dry land. Whereas, the hardening of Pharaoh’s heart drove him to pursue the Israelites/Hebrews into the sea; they were swallowed up by it.  The children of Israel had the words of Moses fulfilled right before their eyes; God would do battle for them, if they stayed in the way of his light, keep his laws, statutes, and commandments; the Egyptians which they saw, they would never see again, & they would know the YHWH EloHIM is GOD.

This portion our study of the Scriptures, deals with the three (3) remaining plagues of Egypt.  

The children of Israel are instructed by God to compose their calendar (or simply a “time keep-sake”) by the phases of the moon, which leads to the creation of the lunar Hebrew calendar.  During the plagues, a memorial for the Hebrews to keep yearly, is instituted.  This memorial would become a statute of those who perform the practical applications of the Hebrew faith; for example, the keeping of the Sabbath, but the time-keeping (months-years) in an annual sense.

Pharaoh’s heart, being hardened once more, he continued his refusal of letting go the children of Israel.  God told Moses, to stretch his hands toward the heavens so that it would be darkness to fall upon the land of Egypt.(three days)  When the darkness covered Egypt, Pharaoh pleaded with Moses to make sacrifice to YHWH, bring light upon Egypt.

God then, told Moses that there would still be yet, one more plague that would be placed upon Egypt.  For afterwards this plague the children of Israel, would come out of Egypt.  Moses was to tell the people, to prepare to exit Egypt, shortly, and to borrow of their neighbors jewels of silver and gold; even so to the point that they received favor in the sight of the Egyptians because of the sign and wonders, that they were able to take of them as well.  But yet, every firstborn of Egypt would be taken away, even that of the Pharaoh’s house.  This would be the 10th and final plague.

Now, the children of Israel had come into Egypt under Joseph, & buried Jacob(Israel) in the land of Canaan.  Wherefore, the children of Israel grew exceedingly in Egypt.  But, as time past there came a Pharaoh, who did not know Joseph, & sought to dealt wisely with the Hebrews, for there was worry of the great numbers the children of Israel grew to.  But, taking matters further, the Pharaoh that did not know Joseph, found it beneficial to serve the Hebrews with work of rigor.

Even, taking matters to another step, there was a decree made by Pharaoh, to have any male child of the children of Israel slain.  This charge was given to two Hebrew midwivesShiphrah & Puah.

These two Hebrew women, did not follow the orders the Pharaoh, for they feared the judgement of God, more than he.  So, Israel continued to grow in number.  Pharaoh determined, charged his people to take matters more seriously.  In the midst of this, out of the house of Levi, was born a male-child, at three months was sent up a river, in attempt to save his life, by his mother.

This child was found at the hand of the daughter of the Pharaoh, whom knew of the decree for the Hebrew male children, & noticed the this child was one of the them, wrapped the clothing of their arrangements, and a small ark of bulrushes.  The daughter of the Pharaoh, took him and had him nursed by the Hebrew woman, who sent him up the river.

The child grew in favor of the Egyptians, but things began to change in his life, as he learned more about himself.  The child had been named Moses by the daughter of the Pharaoh, for she drew him from the waters.  He went out one day, among the Hebrews & saw an Egyptian smiting a Hebrew, enraged by the burdens which the children of Israel had to endure, he in sudden moment slew the Egyptian & hid him in the sand.  Days past, & then Moses saw two Hebrew at each others throats, in argument, Moses intervened & tried to find common ground between the two.

But, one who clearly had been found at fault the argument, confronted Moses, and rejected him for he knew of Moses interaction between the Hebrew & the Egyptian he had slain, in secret.  Moses, for fear, fled to Midian, where he would later meet Reu’el(Jethro); a man who raised seven daughters.  The seven daughters, were whom Moses would meet first, for they came to a well to draw water for the flocks they attended for their father.  The seven daughters of Reu’el(Jethro), were being harassed by some other shepherds & Moses again, intervened driving them away, along with helping them water their flocks.

The daughters came to tell their father of what happened to the mat the well, & they described Moses as an Egyptian, for he still carried a few things which he left with, but Reu’el, knew that of the times, it would be odd for an Egyptian to help a Midianite.  Reu’el(Jethro), invited Moses to stay a while in Midian.  Before long Moses felt love one Reu’el’s  daughters & her name was Ts’ipporah – ሲፓራ / צִּפּוֹרָה.

They were married and had a son, whom they named Gershom – ጌርሳም / גֵּרְשׁוֹם.

The cry of the children of Israel became great, so great they even sought a deliverer, from prophecies.  Moses, now attended the flocks of Reu’el(Jethro), but the voice of God was about to call upon him.

Moses, then took his family into Egypt, & reunited with his original family, in which his brother Aaron, became his priest.

Moses, then is confronted with the disbelief of the children of Israel. & thus began the exchange, between Moses & Pharaoh; exchanges which would be for the release of the Hebrew people from Egypt.

I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with a willing mind and heart(ready to learn), you will receive more than what you might have asked for, in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to seek insight) into the study of the Scriptures.  So, with this Hebrew Shabbat(or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, nonetheless studied the Torah portion of W(V)’zot HaBerachah – וְזֹאת הַבְּרָכָהon the 19th – יט, & the 20th – כ, of the month of Tishreï – תִּשְׁרִי, in the year of 5780. (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)  From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation, where the current year is 2012/7512; these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known, also as, YeBâräkäbát Bäräkät Y’hich Nát – የባረከባት በረከት ይህች ናት.  This would calculate as the 19th – ፲፱, & the 20th – ፳, of the month of TíQímt – ጥቅምት.  The Ethiopic calendar is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet – ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic, which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez – (ግእዝ).

Selichot-or-[Slich’ot] = (Hebrew: סליחות) are Hebrew/Jewish penitential poems & prayers, especially those said and/or recited, in the period leading up to the “High Holidays,” also on ‘Fast Days.’ In the Ashkenazic (ie. Eastern-Euro Jewish) tradition, it begins on the Saturday evening before “Rosh Hashanah.” [Hebrew/Jewish New Year] If, however, the first day of Rosh Hashanah falls on a Monday or Tuesday, the “Selichot” are said beginning the Saturday night prior to ensure that Selichot are recited at least four times. In 2019 or Hebraically; this year’s “Selichot” begins on the Seventh-day or Sabbath (Saturday), on the 21st of September, 2019. […more accurately; Friday evening, on the 20th of September, 2019]

This study portion of the Scriptures, deals with the children of Israel, in what order they should follow upon entering into the Land, which God had promised their foreparents.

THIS SABBATH STUDY PORTION, LAYS OUT EXACTLY HOW THE HEBREW PEOPLE WOULD BE BLESSED; ALBEIT, THEY KEPT & TOOK HEED OF THE ALL THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD; OR CURSED, IF THEY WERE TO TURN AWAY FROM WHAT THEY WERE TAUGHT BY MOSES; BY WAY OF GOD’S WORD.

Blessings-Curses

So, the children of Israel were to present the firstfruits (or the first portions of their harvests) of the land to the priests, and the priests were to present these firstfruits upon the altar; giving thanks & praise to God, because while in bondage/servitude the children of Israel, sewed seeds but did not reap the benefits of their labor. (for they’d worked to satisfy the needs wants of others)  In the Land of Promise, the children of Israel were at the liberty to sew their seeds with gladness and joy, keeping to the ways they were taught out of the Law of Moses.

Tithing:  For the children of Israel, the third year, was when it would acceptable for them to give a tenth of all their harvests, appropriated to the: Levitical-Priesthood, the strangers/guests/foreigners (interpreted from the Ancient Languages of the Scriptures) which would be living among the children of Israel, along with the fatherless (or the orphaned), & the widowed.  This kind of tithing would be a testament to the children of Israel being the chosen, peculiar people (vrs.19) upon the face of the Earth, that within their gates which God had provided/promised to them, they would most certainly seek to feed, clothe & shelter.

Moses, and the elders of the Twelve Tribes of Israel, then charged the Hebrew people to keep all of the commandments, laws and statutes which were set out for them; and upon crossing over the river Jordan into the Land of Promise, on Mount Ebal (ጌባል ተራራ/ הר עיבל‎), the children of Israel were build an altar with whole stones to God-writing the Law (Torah) on these great stones.  This mountain was to be a mountain where peace offerings were to be made to God.

Now, with this ordination, there then came the two mountains.  Moses & the Levites spoke to the Hebrew people, explaining that upon these works, the children of Israel should take heed to themselves, for they were to become the people of God; pending, they would hearken to his laws.

Moses then said, these shall stand upon Mount Gerizim (ገሪዛን ተራራ/ הר גּרזים) to bless the people: Simeon, Levi , Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin:

(verse 12) And these shall stand upon Mount Ebal to curse the people: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulon, Dan, and Naphtali.

From there, the Levites, then laid out the a proclamation of the curses, for those who would turn away from the law.
