Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellassie I & Itege Menen Asfaw,

This is another one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee).

I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with a willing mind and heart(ready to learn), you will receive more than what you might have asked for, in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to seek insight) into the study of the Scriptures.  So, with this Hebrew Shabbat(or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, nonetheless studied the Torah portion of W(v)a’etcḥanan – וָאֶתְחַנַּןon the 15th – טו, & on the 16th – טז, of the month of Ab(v) – אָב,in the year of 5779. (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the MoonFrom an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation, where the current year is 2011/7511;these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known, also as Lämänhu – ለመንሁ.  on the 10th – ፲, & on the 11th – ፲፩, of the month of (ወርኀ) of Nähásæy – .  The Ethiopic calendar, which is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet – ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez – ግእዝ).

Readings:

Deuteronomy 3:23- 7:11

Isaiah 40: 1-26

Matthew 23: 31-39

Mark 12: 28-34

w(v)aetchanan - parsha2

We begin the second reading of the Book of Deuteronomy, with Moses pleading with God for a chance to see the Land of Promise.  For his disobedience to God at the Rock and Waters of Meribah, where Moses struck the rock instead of sanctifying his name (name of YHWH) in the sight of the children of Israel; God told Moses, he would not enter into the Promised Land; but he would be gathered to his people along with the generation of the wandering in the wilderness.  (Wa’etcḥanan-“& I Pleaded“)

"& I pleaded/besought" _ referenced from [Deut. 3:23]

“& I pleaded/besought” _ referenced from [Deut. 3:23]

Moses knowing that though God favored him in grace, he was still displeased with the Striking of the Rock at the Waters of Meribah.  For his disobedience and the disobedience of the children of Israel that came out of Egypt, during the “Exodus,” he remembers that God said that he, along with that generation would not enter into the Promised Land.

[Deut. 3: 23-27 ]

w(vaerchanan - parsha4

God, instead allows Moses to go up atop Pisgah, & view the land, but God also instructs Moses to encourage Joshua, because he shall lead the children of Israel in to the land.

[Deut. 3: 28 & 29]

Moses charges Joshua to Lead Israel into Canaan [Deut. 3: 28] _ painting by James J. Tissot

Moses was also instructed by God to stress the emphasis on keeping God’s laws, statutes, commandments, & judgments that they were taught.  The children of Israel were to hearken to those laws & teach them to their children, also to the following generations.  The children of Israel were to never turn to worship, or the works of the hands(or idols).

[Deut. 4: 1-22]

The children of Israel were instructed to heed of the covenant with God, which they received at Mount Sinai.  Failure to do so would result in the punishments or judgments, for disobedience. (ie; the scattering of the people among many other nations, and serving idol gods, etc.{Duet. 4: 27 & 28})

[Deut. 4: 23-40]

Deut. 4: 26-31 (...the LORD will scatter you among the nations...)

Moses, then set up the Cities of Refuge, which God had command bet put in place.  So, Moses severed three cities: Bezer, in the wilderness, Ramoth, in Gilead, & Golan, in Bashan.

[Deut. 4: 41-49]

w(v)aetchanan - parsha (cities of refuge to Reuben-Gad-Menasseh)deut.4.vrs41-49

& Moses also reminded the children of Israel, of the covenant, which God made with them, while they were at the mountain of Sinai.  Whereas, the Decalogue was iterated to them as apart of the laws, statutes, commandments and judgments, they were to keep & teach to the following generations.

[Deut. 5]

All the laws, statutes, commandments and judgments of God, were the children of Israel to learn, & teach to their children.  Even the Word of Witness(or the Shem’a), they were to hear, observe & do; that it would be well with the, and that they would increase in the Land of Promise.

[Deut. 6]

{THE WORD OF WITNESS/the SHEM’A}

waetchanan - parsha [word-of-witness_Amharic]w2 revised2014

& with the Word of Witness, the children of Israel were given, they were also instructed to love God with all their heart, soul, & strength(might).

[Christ said; heart, soul, mind & strength (Mk. 12: 30)]

& they were to love their neighbors, as themselves, having these words not only come from their mouths, but be in their hearts.

(see. Apostles ask CHRIST of the 1st Commandment of all[vr.28], & CHRIST tells the first & second Greatest Commandments.[vrs.29-31]  Mk. 12: 28-34/Brit Ch’adashah-Haddis Kidan)

[Deut. 6: 1-6]

Deuteronomy 6: 7 & 8

When the children of Israel were to come into the land, keeping all of the laws, statutes, commandments, & judgments of God; they were to drive out nations like; the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, & the Jebusites from among them.  The children of Israel were to have dealings with them, as well.

I welcome you all to yet another post here at Ras Tafari Renaissance.   I also thank everyone who has supported the efforts put forth here.  I, Lidj Yefdi, on behalf of Ras Tafari Renaissance, offer the utmost gratitude.

Today, we as Ras Tafari should learn from the happenings of this day in history.  On the Hebraic/Jewish Calendar, today marks the destruction of the Second Temple of Jerusalem & the scattering of the Hebrew people among many other nations.  The Romans, under Titus(Titus Flavius Caesar Vespasianus Augustus) took Jerusalem after a rebellion of the Hebrew people. (70 AD)

This day is usually set aside by tradition for fasting and mourning, to commemorate the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple by the Chaldeans (586 B.C.) and by the Romans (70); a movable fast falling approximately in the beginning of August of the Gregorian calendar.   II Kings 25: 8, 9;  it is stated that the Temple was burned on the seventh day of the fifth Hebrew month.  Scholars and others note that the tenth day of the fifth month is assigned as the date that comes to a congruent conclusion.  In connection with the fall of Jerusalem there are at least, three other fast-days were established at the same time as the Ninth Day of Ab: these were the Tenth of Tebet, when the siege began; the Seventeenth of Tammuz, when the first breach was made in the wall;

Tisha B'ab [temple destruction by the romans] (70A.D.)

The Book of Lamentations, mourns the destructions of the Temple, & moreover the whole of Jerusalem.  Modern Ashkenazic Jews, read what is called the Kinnot.  The Kinnot, traditionally calls to remembrance the destruction of the 1st & 2nd Temple, as well as the Crusades and the Holocaust.

The questions of the authenticity of certain Jewish/Hebrew people has been a very intricate question, even for those who seem to be the learned in the Hebraic Laws, history & Torah(or the Scriptures); but Ras Tafari Renaissance seeks to aid in the proper education and dissemination of the truth about topics within our reach, by JAH(God)’s grace.

♔ Ethio/Eritrean Tewahedo (ገና – የልደት በዓል) & Eastern Churches Celebration of Christmas ♔

Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellassie I & Itege Menen Asfaw,

Greetings, yet again to one and all, from “Lidj Yefdi” (pronounced Lij; Yêf-dee).

Note, with this specific Sabbath; this year, on the same day marks what ones now are coining as the Orthodox Christmas celebration or for short

#ThreeKingsDay. Jan 6th-7th, 2018

Adoration of the Maji – #ThreKingsDay

Ras Tafari Renaissance writes to give perspective to the Ethiopian holiday of Genna or otherwise called “YeLidet Be’al.”  Because of the calculations of the Ethiopic calendar, we find that the Christmas that is known in the Western world, using the Gregorian calendar doesn’t correspond with the Orthodox Christian churches’ calculations. (though they differ from specific church to church, within the Orthodoxy)  Instead of December 25th, or the twenty-fifth day of the 12th calendar month (Gregorian), we see that the date arrives on January 7th, or the seventh day of the 1st calendar month.

(Orthodox Christian teachings give this as a testimony for the celebration of the birth of Christ)

Christ presented in the Temple to Simeon (Luke 2: 25-26) painted by James J. Tissot

Christ presented in the Temple to Simeon (Luke 2: 25-26) artwork by James J. Tissot

During the first three centuries [A.D. – Anno Domini/commonly known as; After the Death of Christ], in the churches of Jerusalem, Antioch, Alexandria and Cyprus, the Nativity of Christ was combined together with the Feast of His Baptism on January 6, and called “Theophany” (“Manifestation of God”).

Byzantium (Constantinople) flourished and churches began to develop differently. East and West Europe split over religious differences between the Pope and Patriarch (Head of the EOCC) East-Eastern Orthodox Christian Church. West- Roman Catholic Church.

“Within many of the Eastern Churches, the celebrations of the events of the life of Jesus Christ as they are celebrated today were not instituted at the very beginning of the Christian era; they were held by the believers of the early Church as vivid commemorations without a connection with certain days and hymns, but as a real event of the Lord who was present in the Church.”

This was because of a belief that Christ was baptized on the anniversary of His birth, which may be inferred from St. John Chrysostom’s sermon on the Nativity of Christ: “it is not the day on which Christ was born which is called Theophany, but rather that day on which He was baptized.”

By Ethiopic calculations, the birth of Christ, occurs on the Julian calendar‘s framework; predating the Gregorian.  In Eastern Christian (or Orthodox Christian sects) some, Orthodox Christians observe the “Nativity and Adoration of the Shepherds” on January 6th, & the following day may observe, the “Adoration of the Magi” (or otherwise known as the three kings/wise men) on January 7.  Other Orthodox Christians may attend church liturgies on the 6th, or both.

Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellassie I & Itege Menen Asfaw,

Greetings, yet again to one and all, from “Lidj Yefdi” (pronounced Lij; Yêf-dee).

Our Ras Tafari culture & heritage, gives us a discipline to follow so that we retain, our ancestry, spiritually, mentally & physically.  In continuing our studies and bringing about a progressive consciousness, we here at RRR intend to bring about the education and mores of a commendable community acceptable to its Supreme Being and not deviating from the original or true intent of its humble beginnings.  Staying in the lines of that context and adding onto the elements that make up the Ras Tafari collective mentality of the connectivity of this “way of life” that reflects the combination of religious ideals, community accountability, and reaffirmation reinforcement.

Going forward, we continue our studies in the examination of the original historical events of the past which have been tied to religious tradition, we’ve come now to the celebration of the Cḥănūkăh.

Contrary to the many modern interpretations of this Mōedïm(Appointed Time/Holiday/Holy Day), Ch’anukkah is NOT a western ideological equivalent to “Christmas.”  Throughout the many centuries that have passed since the actual happenings of this significant event, there have been modifications to the recognition of this event.  But, in going bit deeper than what is presented on the surface of available information spread throughout the world today, we find Ch’anukkah to be a shining example and lesson of the struggle for survival of the Hebraic culture & faith.

The Seleucid Empire was established during the time of Alexander the “Great.”  His infantry general, Seleucus I Nicantor, was whom the Empire of the Near East gets its name sake from established tributary dominions in accordance to the Hellenistic Greco period.

During the reign of Alexander the Great, his armies conquered Syria, Egypt and Palestine, but allowed the lands under his control to continue observing their own religions and retain a certain degree of autonomy. Under this relatively benevolent rule, many Hebraic-Judeans assimilated much of Hellenistic culture(Greek), adopting the language, the customs and the dress of the Greeks, in ways like many immigrants adopt to the country of their newly found domicile upon settlement.

More than a century later, one of the four successors of Alexander, Antiochus IV was in control of that region. He began to oppress the Israelites of the region severely, placing a Hellenistic priest in the Temple of Jerusalem, massacring them, prohibiting the practice of the faith as they had centuries before, and desecrating the Temple by requiring the sacrifice not acceptable by the law of YHWH (Hebraic God) taught by Moses on the altar.

chanukah11

This led to outrage for the utter disregard and attempted humiliation of the Israelites of the region.  Two groups then arose and opposed Antiochus: simply a  nationalistic group led by Mattathias the Hasmonean, and his son Judah Maccabee(“the Hammer“), and a religious traditionalist group of that time known as the Chasidim/Chasideans, some interpret them as being the proceeding to the Pharisees (no direct connection to the modern movement known as Chasidic Judaism or Chasidim).

The two groups joined into what would be known as the Maccabean Revolt (16 against both the assimilation of the Hellenistic Jews and oppression by the Seleucid Greek government.) The revolution succeeded and the Temple was in so many words re- consecration.

So, in summation of the events that brought about the commemoration of the Moedim(Hebraically) of the recognition of Ch’anukkah; it is the cognitive celebration over the victory of the religious, traditional, & “heritage keepers” (so, to speak) over the internal subtle subversion, and the external threats of domination.

Jacob, then made it so that all of his household, were to know the God that preserved him throughout his years.  So, he made sure that they put away strange things from among them, before going to Bethel once more.  Deborah, who came with Jacob‘s mother Rebekah to the land of Canaan with Isaac, dies just before God appears to Jacob again.  Rachel, Jacob‘s wife, then bear labor pains for the second time, & bear a second son, which she named “Benoni“(son of my sorrow), but Jacob named him, “Benjamin“(son of my right hand).  But, Rachel passed at Ephrath, in Bethleham.  Jacob set a memorial stone on the grave of his wife, Rachel.

Jacob & Leah, went to see Isaac, but while they were away Reuben, lusted after Bilhah & lay with her unknowingly to her before it was too late for her to notice that she was not with her husband; but Reuben loved her, as if she were to be his wife.  Jacob was exceedingly wroth with Reuben because he had lain with Bilhah.” (Apocrapha: Gen. 35)  For this, Reuben defiled his birthright, as the firstborn of Israel.

In this portion of the Scripture studies’, Moses tells the people that adherence and obedience to the laws, which they were given/taught would allow them to prolong their days in the land, & make them fruitful in abundance; in contrast, turning away would lead them down the road to destruction.  Only turning to the ways which the children of Israel were taught by Moses in the way of God, would lead them again into grace.  This would be the parameters for a covenant which God would make with the children of Israel.

Because of their waywardness(the Israelites); God spoke to Moses, telling him to teach the Israelites that the covenant would not only pertain to them alone, though Israel would be a people to God(himself).  The covenant would also include those that would stand with Israel, once upon hearing the words of the book of the Law.  Those who would not hearken to the word, of course, would be a testament to the judgment of disobedience.

So, with this Hebrew Shabbat(or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, nonetheless studied the Torah portion of Ki-Tá(b)vō – כִּי-תָבוֹא, on the 20th – כ, & on the 21st – כא, of the month of Elūl – אֱלוּל, in the year of 5778. (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)  From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation, where the current year is 2010/7510; these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known (in the same sense) as BeGäbáh’m Gïzæy – በገባህም ጊዜ.  This would calculate as the 24th – ፳, & the 25th – ፳፭, of the month of Mäskäräm- መስከረም.  The Ethiopic calendar is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet – ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic, which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church(the other language being Ge’ez – (ግእዝ).

Readings:

Deuteronomy 26:1 – 29:8

Isaiah 60: 1-20

Ephesians 1: 3-6

Revelation 21: 10-27

This study portion of the Scriptures, deals with the children of Israel, in what order they should follow upon entering into the Land, which God had promised their foreparents.

THIS SABBATH STUDY PORTION, LAYS OUT EXACTLY HOW THE HEBREW PEOPLE WOULD BE BLESSED; ALBEIT, THEY KEPT & TOOK HEED OF THE ALL THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD; OR CURSED, IF THEY WERE TO TURN AWAY FROM WHAT THEY WERE TAUGHT BY MOSES; BY WAY OF GOD’S WORD.

So, the children of Israel were to present the firstfruits (or the first portions of their harvests) of the land to the priests, and the priests were to present these firstfruits upon the altar; giving thanks & praise to God, because while in bondage/servitude the children of Israel, sewed seeds but did not reap the benefits of their labor. (for they’d worked to satisfy the needs wants of others)  In the Land of Promise, the children of Israel were at the liberty to sew their seeds with gladness and joy, keeping to the ways they were taught out of the Law of Moses.

[Deut. 26: 1-11]

Tithing:  For the children of Israel, the third year, was when it would acceptable for them to give a tenth of all their harvests, appropriated to the: Levitical-Priesthood, the strangers/guests/foreigners (interpreted from the Ancient Languages of the Scriptures) which would be living among the children of Israel, along with the fatherless (or the orphaned), & the widowed.  This kind of tithing would be a testament to the children of Israel being the chosen, peculiar people (vrs.19) upon the face of the Earth, that within their gates which God had provided/promised to them, they would most certainly seek to feed, clothe & shelter.

[Deut. 26: 12-19]

ki tabo-parsha (tithes) Malachi

Moses, and the elders of the Twelve Tribes of Israel, then charged the Hebrew people to keep all of the commandments, laws and statutes which were set out for them; and upon crossing over the river Jordan into the Land of Promise, on Mount Ebal (ጌባል ተራራ/ הר עיבל‎), the children of Israel were build an altar with whole stones to God-writing the Law (Torah) on these great stones.  This mountain was to be a mountain where peace offerings were to be made to God.

[Deut. 27: 1-8]

Now, with this ordination, there then came the two mountains.  Moses & the Levites spoke to the Hebrew people, explaining that upon these works, the children of Israel should take heed to themselves, for they were to become the people of God; pending, they would hearken to his laws.

Moses then said, these shall stand upon Mount Gerizim (ገሪዛን ተራራ/ הר גּרזים) to bless the people: Simeon, Levi , Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin:

(verse 12) And these shall stand upon Mount Ebal to curse the people: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulon, Dan, and Naphtali.

From there, the Levites, then laid out the a proclamation of the curses, for those who would turn away from the law.
