RSS #6 (ትውልድም ይህ ነው/ תּוֹלְדֹת)

Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellassie I & Itege Menen Asfaw,

This is another one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee).

I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with a willing mind and heart(ready to learn), you will receive more than what you might have asked for, in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to seek insight) into the study of the Scriptures.

So,with this Hebrew Shabbot (or Shabbat) we move into the opening of the Torah portion with Toldot – תּוֹלְדֹת, on the 28th – כח, & on the 29th – כט, of the month of Cḥeshw(v)an – חֶשְׁוָן, [this Hebraic month is also known as; Mar’Cḥeshw(v)an – מַרְחֶשְׁוָן], in the year of 5778. (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the MoonFrom an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation, where the current year is 2010/7510; these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known, also as, Tíwíld’m Y’h Näw – ትውልድም ይህ ነው.  This would calculate as the 8th – ፰, & on the 9th – ፱, of the month of Cḥídâr – ኅዳር [ሕዳር/ህዳር]The Ethiopic calendar is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet – ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic, which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez – (ግእዝ).

This week’s portion of the study of the Scriptures, is Toldot, by Hebrew meaning “generations“, pertaining to descent.  Coincidentally, the readings begin the Rebekah enduring a long period of time where she was barren; having no child with her husband, IsaacIsaac loved Rebekah dearly, & pleaded God on her behalf.

His prayers were accounted for and God blessed them, because Rebekah conceived.

Rebekah was due to give birth to twins, in which God spoke to her, saying that that were two nations that struggled within her.

Two manner of people, that would be separated from her.  One would be stronger than the other, and the older would serve the younger.  Thus Esau & Jacob were born to, Rebekah &Isaac.  Esau was a skilled hunter, Jacob was a simple man, dwelling in tents, wholesome.  But, leaving a man of the field to match wits with a man of intellect, Jacob was able to convince Esau to give up his birthright. (But Esau, despising his birthright made it all but difficult)

After convincing Esau to give up his birthright, Jacob, with the help of his mother Rebekah also was able to receive a blessing from his father, Isaac.

Esau, even took wives from among the Hittites, which was of concern for Rebekah & Isaac.

Esau, then recognizes what his brother has done to him & despises him for it.  Rebekah, once again help Jacob, making him flee to her brother Laban, because his brother’s anger was kindled against.  Rebekah also sought that her son Jacob should not take a wife from among the children of Heth.

Esau seeing that he blessed Jacob, & charged him not to take a wife of the children of Canaan, he(Esau) went to Ismael, & took wives of his people.

So,with this Hebrew Shabbot(or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to the opening of  the Torah portions with W(V)aYecḥї – וַיְחִי.  On the Jewish or Hebraic Calendar in this year 5777, this Sabbath day would probably fall on the 15thטו, & on the 16thטז, of the month of Teb(v)et – טֵבֵת, for this week, in this mode of study;  for those out in the diaspora or outside of Jerusalem/Israel.  (The Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon) &, from an Ethiopic-Christian perspective, in what may be known as the year 2009/2029/7509, on the Ethiopic calendar.  This calculation, with its readings from the Scriptures, would align to the 5th – ፭, & on the 6th – ፮, of the month of Tah’sas – ታኅሣሥ.  In the Scriptures, this portion of study would also be known as Be’Nōräbät – በኖረበት.  The Ethiopic calendar is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet-ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic, which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez-(ግእዝ).

This portion of our studies in the Scriptures, will conclude the first of Book of Genesis.  While continuing study in the last Torah portion of Genesis the study deals with Jacob‘s(Israel) tenure in Egypt.  Jacob(Israel), felt that the time drew near to his death, so he spoke to his son, Joseph; telling him of an obligation he would like his son to fulfill.

Jacob(Israel) desired to be laid to rest among his ancestors in the land of Canaan, which God has promised that his descendants would inherit.

Joseph, after speaking with his father, Jacob(Israel) and taking into account that his father drew close to his death; Joseph brought his two sons, Manasseh & Ephraim to him.

  Jacob(Israel), told his two grandsons [Manasseh & Ephraim] to come closer for he would bless them according to the covenant he received from God and his ancestors: Abraham & Isaac.  Oddly, Jacob(Israel), blessed Ephraim, the younger son, in the place of the elder sonManasseh.  Even, after the attempts of Joseph, who noticed that his father blessed his younger son in the place of his eldest and vice-versa.

After blessing his grandchildren, Jacob(Israel), then proceeded to bless all of his children, as well.  Each one receiving a blessing, pertaining to themselves.

Jacob(Israel), then died in Egypt & Joseph, made preparations for his body & burial, but more importantly the fulfillment of his oath to his father.  Because Joseph, was such a great man of stature in Egypt, the passing of his father was a grievous thing among the Egyptians.*  This was so much so, that when Joseph, went to Pharaoh and told him of the oath that his father wished him to fulfill, Pharaoh allowed it, even allowing many of the elders of the house, and of the land, along with servants of the house to go with him to Canaan.  But, upon arrival into the land of Canaan, the Canaanites saw the people that brought up Jacob(Israel), from Egypt, & they saw them mourning at Atad….& said “this is a grievous mourning for the Egyptians.”*  This day brought about the name of “Abel Mitz’raim – אָבֵל מִצרַיִם,” which translates to the “Meadow of Egypt“, or the “Mourning of Egypt.“  All in the procession for the remembrance of the passing of Jacob. [the Patriarch of Israel]

Joseph’s brothers, thought surely after their father’s passing that Joseph would in one way or another return the favor for their jealousy of him from their past.  But Joseph did no such thing, but returned to Egypt & witnessed the birth of his other grandchildren and great-grandchildren until his Joseph’s passing in Egypt.  Joseph also made oath with the all of Israelites; that they should bring his bones out of Egypt & lay him to rest with his ancestors in the land of Canaan. [as his father Jacob, did]

This kifil(portion) of the study of the Scriptures, deals with the stories of the lives of the B’nei Ysrael(or the sons of Israel-Jacob).

…each of them having a particular situation they had to deal with, in specific intervals of time, in their lives…

For instance, from the past parsha/kifil(portion), of W(V)ayishlaKH’-Lake’, Simeon & Levi, Jacob-Israel‘s sons by Leah, slew the Shechemites for the rape of their sister, Dinah.

Reuben, later violated his father, and his wife Bilhah, by sleeping with her in the depth of the night, while she thought that it was her husband. (so the firstborn, not only violated his father, but his birthright as well)

Benjamin, the youngest, is born of Jacob-Israel‘s wife, Rachel, but his birth goes “hand-in-hand” with Rachel‘s passing. (leaving him as the “baby of the family” & attracting much of Jacob‘s attention)

Now, in this portion of the study, Jacob-Israel settled in the land of Canaan.  While in Canaan, Joseph, Jacob-Israel‘s elder son of Rachel, is adorned by his father with a beautiful coat with an array of colors and designs.  The love, Joseph received from his father evoked the jealousy of his brothers, & the ability to tune into the dreams and visions, which God continued to send him, did no better for Joseph, pertaining to his brother’s envy.

Joseph‘s brothers were in Shechem feeding their flocks, & Jacob sent Joseph, to join them.  But, because of their envy, Joseph’s brothers sought an opportunity and plotted against him(Joseph), to the point that they considered killing him.

But, because the other sons of Jacob-Israel, had not found their brother Joseph in the place where they left him, which was a pit with no water.  Then the other brother, made a story to tell their father that their brother was killed by a wild beast, for they wished not to tell Jacob-Israel, that they plotted rid themselves of their brother, for they were envious of him.

Now, in an interim, from the story of Joseph; his brother, Judah marries a Canaanite woman, whom was the daughter of Shua.  The daughter of Shua bore Judah, three sons: Er, Onan &, Shelah.  After the disobedience and deaths of the first two sons, Judah was left to care for his daughter-in-law, Tamar, whom had married his firstborn son, ErOnan, was to take on responsibility of being the caretaker, & his brother’s keeper, in the matters of his sister-in-law, Tamar, but he(Onan) rejected the responsibility; & provoked God to punish him.  So, Judah, as her(Tamar) father-in-law, proposed that she return to her family, & await until Shelah; Judah‘s youngest was to come of age, so that he may assume the position of being his brother’s keeper.

Shelah grew, but he was not given to Tamar, for a husband.  So, she plotted to make Judah acknowledge that he had wronged her, in that his arrangement, responsibility, & commitment to her as a father-in-law, had not been kept.

So, returning to Joseph‘s story; he ends up in Egypt, as a servant to Potiphar, a captain of the Egyptian guardJoseph, while in servitude, is blessed by God that even the Egyptians sense that there is something special about him.  Joseph finds himself in charge of the many things that someone of his status just hadn’t been able to attain.  But, of course, a challenge to his continued success was inevitable.  So, the wife of Potiphar, is enamored by Joseph, & continuously tried to persuade him to sleep with her: but, he resisted her, every time.  But, in one instance, Potiphar was on leave from his home leaving Joseph in charge of all that he had.  Potiphar, trusting Joseph, but Potiphar‘s wife, saw a chance to seize the opportunity to get Joseph all to herself.  Joseph, again refused her, but she forced herself upon him, to the point that he had to flee from her, leaving his garment in her hand.  She being ashamed & angered at Joseph, made false accusations, but turned the words in Potiphar‘s guards and Potiphar‘s ears so that Joseph, found himself in the prisons of Egypt, for betrayal, among other accusations.

But, while in prison, Joseph is still favored by God, for staying steadfast even in the midst of his adversity; he receives the responsibility that not many would’ve as a prisoner, interpreting dreams and visions, like the ones he had as a child in the land of Canaan.

Before going forward with this week’s parsha study, we take an in-depth look at the name of the portion, for this week: Ækeb (Ekev/ Eiqeb/ Eikev) – עֵקֶב= other various phonetic pronunciations).

The significance of this parsha’s name, should be a notated because the resemblance it has to Isaac’s son, Jacob, brother of Esau; in the Amharic & Hebrew languages.

Finding relations to the parsha for this week and the name, Jacob, will be very telling; in the order of over-standing(“understanding”) where this portion of the Scriptures intends to enlighten the mind.

After Moses receives the instructions from God to teach the children of Israel, he then instructs them, insuring that they know they should observe and do them, for things to go well & in their favor. (pertaining to God)  God, in turn, will not only bring them into the land but, will bless them abundantly.

“…A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey;…” [Deut. 8:8]

Warnings and exhortations were given to the children of Israel, in the sense of them taking advantage of pursuing the inheritance, that was a covenant between God, Abraham, Isaac, & Jacob.

Israel, after receiving instruction was to then, go over the river Jordan to possess the land, & drive out those who would not dwell peaceably with them.  For God strove against the wickedness of other nations.

But even with all of this brewing in good favor for the children of Israel, they stray from the path which should have led straightway to the fullness of JAH(God)’s grace and blessing .  But, because Israel is & always has been a “stiffnecked people,” Moses has to plead a case to God for the children of Israel.  God had sought to utterly destroy the children of Israel for their constant disobedience.  Moses, intercedes for Israel for they had brought nearly about God’s wrath upon them.  Recalling the time at the mount of Horeb, Israel making a molten image to worship, and provoked God to anger so much so, that God prepared obliterate them & make a nation out of Moses [& Ts’pporah].  (new nation: hence, the Ethio-Hebrews, that would later come with Sheba & Solomon [not to neglect the earlier connection between Abraham & Keturah), in spite of the various surrounding happenings)  For Moses’ sake, God’s wrath was turned away from Israel.

After this God told Moses, to hew two stone tablets, for the words which were on the set before them, Moses broke for he waxed hot in anger towards Israel for their stubbornness and disobedience to God ‘s laws.  Along with these, was a wooden ark made to be put into the Ark of the Covenant.  So the words of the Sinaitic Covenant were restored.

I welcome you all to a new regeneration of cycle Torah readings!  This is another one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee).

I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with a willing mind and heart(ready to learn), you will receive more than what you might have asked for, in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to seek insight) into the study of the Scriptures.  So,with this Hebrew Shabbot (or Shabbat) we move into the opening of the Torah portion with Kedôshïm – קְדֹשִׁים; on the 5th – , & on the 6th – , from a Jewish/Hebrew mode of study for those out in the diaspora, living outside of Jerusalem or Israel; on of the month of Iyyar (אִייָר) or otherwise known as Ziw(v) – [זיו] . (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)  From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known as Qídusán – ቅዱሳን; (with its correspondence to the Sun) & to the Ethiopic calendar, which is solar, calculating to the 5th – ፭, & on the 6th – ፮of the month of G’nbot(ግንቦት) for this Sabbath (or Senbet – ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church(the other language being Ge’ez – ግእዝ).

Kedoshi’yim – Q’dusan; has a literal English translation of “the holy ones,” or “the saints.”

The study begins with GOD speaking to Moses, and the children of Israel, saying “make thyselves Holy for He, himself is Holy.”  God, intending to make the children of Israel, “up their game,” in one way or another, by slang terminology.  But, in a literal sense, God sought the children of Israel to turn from ways that hadn’t gotten them anywhere spiritually, physically, and mentally, as a group.  The children of Israel were to adhere to certain principles, laws, commandments, ordinances etc…..

The children of Israel were also given to more laws, commandments and statutes to live by, even while in the wilderness.  Also, the tilling and agricultural aspects of what the Hebrew people were to align their workings to was given to them by the words of God.  By Moses‘ teachings, given to him by God, the Hebrews were able to begin to formulate and sharpen skills needed to continue building the seed of the nation, which was promised to their predecessors; Abraham, Isaac, & Jacob.

So,with this Hebrew Shabbot(or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to the opening of  the Torah portions with W(V)aYeshe(v)b – וַיֵּשֶׁב.  On the Jewish or Hebraic Calendar in this year 5776, this Sabbath day would probably fall on the 22nd – כב, & the 23rd – כג, of the month of Kislew(v) – כִּסְלֵו, for this week, in this mode of study; for those out in the diaspora or outside of Jerusalem/Israel.  (The Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon) &, from an Ethiopic-Christian perspective, in what may be known as the year 2008/2028/7508, on the Ethiopic calendar.  This calculation, with its readings from the Scriptures, would align to the 24th – ፳፬, & the 25th – ፳፭,  of the (ወርኀ)month of Ch’ədár – ኅዳር.  In the Scriptures, this portion of study would also be known as TeQ’emeT’e – ተቀመጠThe Ethiopic calendar is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet-ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic, which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez-(ግእዝ).

This kifil(portion) of the study of the Scriptures, deals with the stories of the lives of the B’nei Ysrael(or the sons of Israel-Jacob).

…each of them having a particular situation they had to deal with, in specific intervals of time, in their lives…

For instance, from the past parsha/kifil(portion), of W(V)ayishlaKH’-Lake’, Simeon & Levi, Jacob-Israel‘s sons by Leah, slew the Shechemites for the rape of their sister, Dinah.

Reuben, later violated his father, and his wife Bilhah, by sleeping with her in the depth of the night, while she thought that it was her husband. (so the firstborn, not only violated his father, but his birthright as well)

Benjamin, the youngest, is born of Jacob-Israel‘s wife, Rachel, but his birth goes “hand-in-hand” with Rachel‘s passing. (leaving him as the “baby of the family” & attracting much of Jacob‘s attention)

Now, in this portion of the study, Jacob-Israel settled in the land of Canaan.  While in Canaan, Joseph, Jacob-Israel‘s elder son of Rachel, is adorned by his father with a beautiful coat with an array of colors and designs.  The love, Joseph received from his father evoked the jealousy of his brothers, & the ability to tune into the dreams and visions, which God continued to send him, did no better for Joseph, pertaining to his brother’s envy.

Joseph‘s brothers were in Shechem feeding their flocks, & Jacob sent Joseph, to join them.  But, because of their envy, Joseph’s brothers sought an opportunity and plotted against him(Joseph), to the point that they considered killing him.

But, because the other sons of Jacob-Israel, had not found their brother Joseph in the place where they left him, which was a pit with no water.  Then the other brother, made a story to tell their father that their brother was killed by a wild beast, for they wished not to tell Jacob-Israel, that they plotted rid themselves of their brother, for they were envious of him.

Now, in an interim, from the story of Joseph; his brother, Judah marries a Canaanite woman, whom was the daughter of Shua.  The daughter of Shua bore Judah, three sons: Er, Onan &, Shelah.  After the disobedience and deaths of the first two sons, Judah was left to care for his daughter-in-law, Tamar, whom had married his firstborn son, ErOnan, was to take on responsibility of being the caretaker, & his brother’s keeper, in the matters of his sister-in-law, Tamar, but he(Onan) rejected the responsibility; & provoked God to punish him.  So, Judah, as her(Tamar) father-in-law, proposed that she return to her family, & await until Shelah; Judah‘s youngest was to come of age, so that he may assume the position of being his brother’s keeper.

Shelah grew, but he was not given to Tamar, for a husband.  So, she plotted to make Judah acknowledge that he had wronged her, in that his arrangement, responsibility, & commitment to her as a father-in-law, had not been kept.

So, returning to Joseph‘s story; he ends up in Egypt, as a servant to Potiphar, a captain of the Egyptian guardJoseph, while in servitude, is blessed by God that even the Egyptians sense that there is something special about him.  Joseph finds himself in charge of the many things that someone of his status just hadn’t been able to attain.  But, of course, a challenge to his continued success was inevitable.  So, the wife of Potiphar, is enamored by Joseph, & continuously tried to persuade him to sleep with her: but, he resisted her, every time.  But, in one instance, Potiphar was on leave from his home leaving Joseph in charge of all that he had.  Potiphar, trusting Joseph, but Potiphar‘s wife, saw a chance to seize the opportunity to get Joseph all to herself.  Joseph, again refused her, but she forced herself upon him, to the point that he had to flee from her, leaving his garment in her hand.  She being ashamed & angered at Joseph, made false accusations, but turned the words in Potiphar‘s guards and Potiphar‘s ears so that Joseph, found himself in the prisons of Egypt, for betrayal, among other accusations.

But, while in prison, Joseph is still favored by God, for staying steadfast even in the midst of his adversity; he receives the responsibility that not many would’ve as a prisoner, interpreting dreams and visions, like the ones he had as a child in the land of Canaan.
