Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellassie I & Itege Menen Asfaw,

I welcome you all to a new regenartion of cycle Torah readings!  This is another one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee).

I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with a willing mind and heart(ready to learn), you will receive more than what you might have asked for, in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) into the study of the Scriptures.

So,with this Hebrew Shabbot (or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to the opening of the Torah portion with W(V)ayakhel – וַיַּקְהֵל, from a Jewish/Hebrew mode of study for those out in the diaspora, living outside of Jerusalem or Israel.  From the Jewish or Hebraic Calendar in the 5779 year, this Sabbath day would more than likely fall on the 24th – כד, & on the 25th – כה, of the month of  Adar-אֲדָר . (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)  From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation these readings from the Scriptures would align to 2011/7511 year, in what is known as Seb’s’bo – ሰብስቦ; on the 22nd – ፳፪, & on the 23rd – ፳፫, on the (ወርኀ) month of የካቲት (Yekateet).  In the Scriptures, what is also known as . On the Ethiopic calendar, which is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) this Sabbath (or Senbet-ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church(the other language being Ge’ez-ግእዝ)

Readings:

Exodus 35:1- 38:20

I Kings 7: 40-50

II Corinthians 9: 6-11

I Corinthians 3: 11-18

This portion of the study of the Scriptures, Moses gathers the children of Israel together to relay rules & regulations for the Sabbath, & how they are to conduct themselves and teach the following generations as a statute among them, forever.  Moses also gave instructions to the children of Israel for the construction of the Tabernacle.

[Exod. 35: 1-19]

Tabernacle (Mishkan-Dinkwan)

Moses, also explained that there would be two chosen among them that would offer their craftsmanship, and work to construct a place where God could come and dwell among the children of Israel while they made their way through the .  Then were found Betz’aleel ben-Uri (ben Uri= son of Uri), out of the tribe of Judah, & Aholiab ben-Achiycamakh (ben Achiycamakh= son of Akisamac) were called by God to be the chief artisans/masons of the Tabernacle in the wilderness.  But this didn’t exclude any of the wise-hearted (men or women: [Exod. 35: 20-26]), skilled and resourceful among the children of Israel to participate.

[Exod. 35: 20-35]

Aholiab & Betza'leel : skilled craftsmen of Israel

Aholiab & Betza’leel : skilled craftsmen of Israel

While the people brought willingly to God, the items for the construction of the Tabernacle, which they could  provide; it was brought to Moses’ attention that they brought more than what would be needed.  Moses then gave commandment and proclamation to the children of Israel that they be restrained from bringing anymore gifts/offerings to the builders and the wise-hearted for the service.

[Ex.36: 1-7]

terumah - parsha (contrubitions-gifts-offerings)

The children of Israel, then went on to construct the Tabernacle in the wilderness for YHWH to come and dwell amongst them.  Dividing the tasks of workmanship among each other, the Hebrews worked diligently constructed the ornaments of the Tabernacle, like the outer courts’ pillars, and the curtains.  The skilled and blessed craftsmen continued their work until all the vestments of the priests, and all of the furniture of the inner sanctum were completed.

Readings:

Exodus 21:1- 24:18

Jeremiah 34:8-22 ; chpt. 33: 25, 26

Matthew 5:38-42 ; chpt. 17: 1-11

Now, in summation of the study we have in front of us, this portion of the study of the Scriptures, laws/ordinances/judgments for the Passover(Pesach – פסח /Fasika – ፋሲካ) are set out.  In addition to the Decalogue(Ten Commandments/Words), another series of laws were given to Moses, to give to the children of Israel. This has been accounted for as the covenant upon Mount Sinai (or the Sinaitic Covenant).  God commands Moses, Aaron, & Aaron’s sonsNadab and Abihu, to ascend the mountain.

[Ex. 24:9-11]

Covenant Code(detailed statutes)

[Exodus 21-23]

ELoHIM upon Mt Sinai

The instituting of Hebrews,( in particular the men ), to show up or appear, before God three times was established, with these detailed statutes.

Laws and ordinances, on servitude, child rearing, crime, and other aspects, are covered for the children of Israel to observe and do.  This has been accounted for as the covenant upon Mount Sinai.

Feast of Unleavened Bread

(Passover – פֶּסַח), is a memorial of the Exodus from Egypt. It also observes, the avoiding all leavened grain products and similar foods of consumption.  Most families or communities tell stories of the Exodus traditionally. Pesach(Passover) usually lasts eight days (for some others it may comprise seven days): Passover’s equivalent in Ethiopian Jewish/Hebrew tradition is called (Fasika – ፋሲካ) from other translated sources Fasika, is the equivalent for the meaning from/into Easter; in the English. Fasika has been an upkeep from the traditions and teachings of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church, since around fourth century A.D.  Even, for what is known as a Christian church, this festival of Fasika (Easter/Passover) holds significance than what is known as Christmas. Fasika succeeds an approx., 56-day fasting period, which is has certain relevancy to the Western Christian ideas of Lent. Fasika, is known to be a a day of high celebration.

Also, in continuance of the giving of the laws, statutes and commandments, along with the judgments of YHWH; the children of Israel were also given more times of observances for the Hebrew people.  These observances have become, what is known as the Moed’im – מועדים. [translated literally into “appointed times.”]

Feasts Of Weeks

Now, the second of these important feasts is the Feast of Weeks/Harvest, (Shav(b)uot / Ch’ag Shab(v)uot – חג שבעות) commemorates the day God gave the Torah/the LAW to the entire nation of Israel which had come to be assembled at Mount Sinai.  Shavuot is linked to Passover, it also concludes the Counting of the Omer, of the seven weeks/counting of God’s festivals.

Feast of Tabernacles

and at the Feast of Tabernacles/Succoth(Sukkot – סֻכּוֹת) The Feast of the Ingathering, is celebrated on the 15th day of the month of Tisrei, on the Hebrew/Jewish calendar. Moses told the children of Israel to gather for a reading of the Law during Sukkot every seventh year (Deut. 31:10-11).  Succoth is a seven day holiday, and part of what is known in Jewish tradition as the Chol HaMoed (festival weekdays). Observance of Sukkot is detailed in the Book of this week’s Torah portion.

[Exodus 23:14]

In this portion of the Scriptures, important observances for the children of Israel, which have now become known as the Shalosh Regalim.

(or commonly known as the three national High Holy Days of Israel)

After this establishment Moses, was then summoned by God to ascend the mountain where he remained for forty days and forty nights.

Selam/Shalom(peace) to you all,

I, Yohannes, am’ writing all of you because I have admired the talents, skills, & development of the “self” that you all have displayed from time-to-time here on this platform as well as, other outlets.  I also write to present an opportunity not for instant gratification as many info-mercials or prosperity preachers would present to you; but, in hopes to enhance the desire of collective organization, assistance, & heritage appreciation.  I think its safe to say that we all have an affinity to Ethiopia (& or Africa; as a whole) & if I’am mistaken please, feel free to disregard this message or excuse yourself from the group message.  But, if you do find what I have said so far to be interesting,….read on?! It has been brought to my attention the importance of a collective effort; when communication is unclear the goals of any project are destined to fall short of its target; which is success.

Well, this is the point I’am trying to make here:….its understood that in our own ventures we find things to be very difficult to accomplish when the resources, help and other important things are missing from our planning stages. So with that said, the desire to uplift, develop and assist the country(s) of our choice, origin etc., is something we can agree that has a need for serious attention. The things more directly, I’am speaking of, is what Ras Tafarians know as Repatriation(by definition in the world is called “Expatriation“).

In our respective countries, some of us may have found things to be on a scale that wavers back-and-forth, but not to a substantial advantage to us for a number reasons, taking in our specific geographical locations. Seeing as how we have shown, at certain times loyalty, expressed our concern, and celebrated in some, if not all of the victories of the place(s) in which we hold dear: I’m writing to ask that if any of you are willing to begin to working with others, with like minds on a committee to ensure the well-being of those within this prospective group & others who are also willing to collaborate and work with each other then we can commit to thriving and making success out of each other. As of now, this is just a networking experiment with high potential seeing as how all of you have different talents in different areas of expertise.  I’am just one person seeking to create a group with the goal of making sure that the group, which can come together to reason, plan and organize for the success of their own present & future.

Ras Tafari Dig Your Heels In….!!!

No matter where I look, I see that Ras Tafarians in different parts of the world are talented and skilled in various fields.  But, because of the scattering by JAH‘s mighty hand, it easily can be seen as an obstacle to seriously bring together so many like minded people to work for a common goal.

In the growing Ras Tafari international community, we here at RRR are seeking to begin the process bringing together these people who “seek to find” and embrace the trod(walk) of Ras Tafari.

whom JAH bless no man curse (ras tafari proverb)

We have initiated a call conference/radio/video log, for the gathering and reinstating of our heritage preservation as a program of involvement that is open to the public.  We are also planning, and rejuvenating the strength of the Ras Tafari commonwealth.  We invite anyone of the Ras Tafari faithful to join us in this endeavor, because we are truly in the moment of bringing Ras Tafari into the next millennium and beyond.

RRR IS PROUD IN JAH GRACE TO SEE AND HAVE BEEN APART OF THIS INITIAL GATHERING WHICH HAS BLOSSOMED INTO THE “DSR” RAS TAFARI GROUNDAITON KNOWN NOW ON BLOG TALK RADIO ON (Discipleship Radi0)  WE COULDN’T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT ALL OF THE SUPPORT AND STICK-TO-IT-IVENESS OF EACH OF THE BETESEB(FAMILY)

In continuation of our study of the Scriptures, we come to the parsha of Miketz, Ethiopically known as BeKHwalam (Kehulet Amet BeKHwalam.)

miketz - parsha [7cows]

The last portion ended with Joseph, the son of Jacob(Israel), being sold by his own brothers, & through trials of times, Joseph found himself in Egypt.  As a prisoner in Egypt, he is still blessed by God grace.

miketz - parsha [seven ears of corn] Gen.41vrs5

Joseph, now in the company of other prisoners, (ie. the chief baker, and butler), interprets visions they’ve had.  The news of the gift that Joseph has, reaches the ears of the Pharaoh, & Pharaoh, inquires of Joseph assistance for a vision he cannot make sense of.

Pharaoh, summoned all of the magicians, of Egypt to interpret the dream troubling dreams he had been having.  But, surely, there was none of them who could interpret the dreams for him.  So, upon hearing about an Hebrew, in the dungeon, who seemingly interpreted dreams in accuracy, of other prisoners and others, Pharaoh, called for Joseph’s release; for he wished to see if Joseph could give an interpretation of his dreams.

[Gen. 41: 1-40]

miketz - parsha

Joseph, then was set in high regard to Pharaoh, by his command because he interpreted Pharaoh’s dream with such great understanding.  Pharoah called Joseph, Tz’aphnat Paneah’kh – צָפְנַת פַּעְנֵחַ, & he was given Asnath – אָסְנַת, the daughter of Potipherah, the priest of OnAsnath, bore Joseph, two sons, which he called Manasseh & Ephraim.  Because of Joseph’s interpretation of Pharaoh’s dream, many nations came to Egypt to buy food, for Joseph had stored for the years of famine that was great upon the land.  Jacob(Israel) sent his sons, all but the youngest, Benjamin, for he feared that something may happen equivalent to Joseph’s disappearance.

[Gen. 41: 40- 42:5]

miketz - parsha [Yosef ben Yaicob ben Ysrael(Tsafnat Paneach) - Asnat)Joseph(Tz’afnat Pa’aneahkh’) & Asenat(Asnat)

The sons of Israel, went into Egypt to buy things like grain, for the famine had left them with very little.  Joseph, saw his brethren, but they were unable to notice him for he was dressed in the apparel of Egyptian nobility.  There he confronted them as if, he were dealing with spies & commanded that they send their youngest brother along with them for Joseph had not seen Benjamin, with the others.  The brothers returned and told Jacob(Israel) what happened while they were in Egypt.  Judah, one of the brethren spoke firmly with Joseph, and their father Jacob(Israel), in the matter of their youngest brother, Benjamin.

[Gen. 42: 6 -43:17]

Joseph & his brother Judah

Judah consults with Joseph _ painting by James J. Tissot

Upon the return of all his brothers, with their youngest brother, Benjamin; Joseph made haste to see all of them together again.  Joseph, appealed to Pharaoh to bring his family to Egypt, for the famine was so great & he wished not to see his family struggle in the land of Canaan; Pharaoh permitted the Hebrews to enter in, on Joseph’s behalf.

In this portion of the study of the Scriptures, we begin with Jacob making his return to the land of Canaan, with his family after a twenty year tenure in Haran. (Aram)

[Gen. 32: 4-6]

wayishlach - parsha [esau and jacob]

Jacob set out to meet his brother, Esau, sought to do the same, upon hearing of Jacob‘s arrival in HebronJacob, weary of the past events that took place with his brother, (…also his uncle/father-in-law…Laban) sent word ahead with gifts, to appease Esau.

[Gen. 32: 7-8]

wayishlach - parsha [jacob at peniel]

Jacob, praying to God, to see him through the possibly unfavorable encounter with his brother, Esau; feared that an attempt on his life at the hands of brother Esau, would be inevitable.  But, Jacob harkened to the call God made to him, of his father Isaac, and Abraham.

Dinah, the only daughter of Jacob, by Leah, then went out among the people of the land, & there was a Hivite, named Shechem, the son of Hamor, a prince of the country, took her in no formal way of courtship, but later spoke to the ideals of love for her, in which Dinah never objected too.  Shechem spoke to his father to make arrangements to marry Dinah, but Jacob had heard of his daughter’s encounter with the Hivite prince, along with all of Jacob‘s sons.  Hamor, sought to make peace between the Hivites and the Jacobites (Israelites), with marriages between the people, with the initiate being the union of Shechem & Dinah.  But, Jacob‘s sons saw the actions of the Hivite prince to be morally a crime, against them.

The sons of Jacob, answered deceitfully, with the intent to punish the Hivites for morally wicked actions done to their sister.  The sons of Jacob, made prerequisites pending the negotiations that the Jacobites would marry into the families of the HivitesShechem, and Hamor made haste that they and all the males of them should comply with the requests of the sons of Jacob, to gain not only the peaceable marriage to their daughters, but giving the daughters of the Hivites to the sons of Jacob to marry.  Thus, gaining their consent to dwell together with them.  For Jacob, blessed of God, was wealthy in flocks and substance.  But, Simeon & Levi, foiled their plans and instead sacked ShechemJacob was inagered with his sons for the deeds, but Simeon & Levi saw it, as if their sister had been taken to be a harlot.

Jacob, then made it so that all of his household, were to know the God that preserved him throughout his years.  So, he made sure that they put away strange things from among them, before going to Bethel once more.  Deborah, who came with Jacob‘s mother Rebekah to the land of Canaan with Isaac, dies just before God appears to Jacob again.  Rachel, Jacob‘s wife, then bear labor pains for the second time, & bear a second son, which she named “Benoni“(son of my sorrow), but Jacob named him, “Benjamin“(son of my right hand).  But, Rachel passed at Ephrath, in Bethleham.  Jacob set a memorial stone on the grave of his wife, Rachel.

Jacob & Leah, went to see Isaac, but while they were away Reuben, lusted after Bilhah & lay with her unknowingly to her before it was too late for her to notice that she was not with her husband; but Reuben loved her, as if she were to be his wife.  Jacob was exceedingly wroth with Reuben because he had lain with Bilhah.” (Apocrapha: Gen. 35)  For this, Reuben defiled his birthright, as the firstborn of Israel.

Before his death, Isaac, saw & blessed his younger son Jacob, and his family.
