♔ Eastern Churches Celebration of Christmas ♔

Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellassie I & Itege Menen Asfaw,

This is another one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee).

I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with a willing mind and heart(ready to learn), you will receive more than what you might have asked for, in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight [eyesight] if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to seek insight) into the study of the Scriptures.

Note, with this specific Sabbath; this year, on the same day marks what ones now are coining as the Orthodox Christmas celebration or for short

#ThreeKingsDay. Jan 6th-7th, 2018

Calculations:

  • [2018 AD] Anno-Domini (Western/Gregorian/Greenwich)
  • [5778 HC/JC] (Hebraic/Jewish)
  • [2010/7510 EC] (Tewahedo/Judeo-Christian)
  • [2018 JLC] (Julian)

Adoration of the Maji – #ThreKingsDay

Ras Tafari Renaissance writes to give perspective to the Ethiopian holiday of Genna or otherwise called “YeLidet Be’al.”  Because of the calculations of the Ethiopic calendar, we find that the Christmas that is known in the Western world, using the Gregorian calendar doesn’t correspond with the Orthodox Christian churches’ calculations. (though they differ from specific church to church, within the Orthodoxy)  Instead of December 25th, or the twenty-fifth day of the 12th calendar month (Gregorian), we see that the date arrives on January 7th, or the seventh day of the 1st calendar month.

(Orthodox Christian teachings give this as a testimony for the celebration of the birth of Christ)

Christ presented in the Temple to Simeon (Luke 2: 25-26) painted by James J. Tissot

Christ presented in the Temple to Simeon (Luke 2: 25-26) artwork by James J. Tissot

During the first three centuries [A.D. – Anno Domini/commonly known as; After the Death of Christ], in the churches of Jerusalem, Antioch, Alexandria and Cyprus, the Nativity of Christ was combined together with the Feast of His Baptism on January 6, and called “Theophany” (“Manifestation of God”).

Byzantium (Constantinople) flourished and churches began to develop differently. East and West Europe split over religious differences between the Pope and Patriarch (Head of the EOCC) East-Eastern Orthodox Christian Church. West- Roman Catholic Church.

“Within many of the Eastern Churches, the celebrations of the events of the life of Jesus Christ as they are celebrated today were not instituted at the very beginning of the Christian era; they were held by the believers of the early Church as vivid commemorations without a connection with certain days and hymns, but as a real event of the Lord who was present in the Church.”

This was because of a belief that Christ was baptized on the anniversary of His birth, which may be inferred from St. John Chrysostom’s sermon on the Nativity of Christ: “it is not the day on which Christ was born which is called Theophany, but rather that day on which He was baptized.”

star from the east - wise kings from the east (Star of Bethlehem)

By Ethiopic calculations, the birth of Christ, occurs on the Julian calendar‘s framework; predating the Gregorian.  In Eastern Christian (or Orthodox Christian sects) some, Orthodox Christians observe the “Nativity and Adoration of the Shepherds” on January 6th, & the following day may observe, the “Adoration of the Magi” (or otherwise known as the three kings/wise men) on January 7.  Other Orthodox Christians may attend church liturgies on the 6th, or both.

I welcome you all to one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee). I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with a willing mind and heart(ready to learn), you will receive more than what you might have asked for, in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) into the study of the Scriptures. So,with this Hebrew Shabbot(or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to the Torah portion of Terumah-תְּרוּמָה.  On the Jewish or Hebraic Calendar in this year 5774, this Sabbath day would probably fall on the 30th-ל, of the month of the month of Shebet-שְׁבָט, & the 1st-א, of the month of Adar-אֲדָר‎, for this week, in this mode of study; for those out in the diaspora or outside of Jerusalem/Israel.  (The Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon) &, from an Ethiopic-Christian perspective, in what may be known as the year 2006/2026/7506, on the Ethiopic calendar.  This calculation, with its readings from the Scriptures, would align to the 23rd-፳፫, & the 24th-፳፬, on the (ወርኀ)month of T’r(ጥር).  In the Scriptures, what is also known as SiT’ota Meba-ስጦታ መባ.  The Ethiopic calendar is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet-ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic, which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez-(ግእዝ).

At this point, in the study of the Scriptures, the children of Israel are given the instructions from God through Moses to build a Tabernacle. (in the wilderness)

The children of Israel, produced 13 gifts for offering to YHWH, for the construction of the Tabernacle.  Contributions of gold, silver, brass(copper), blue, red(scarlet), and purple linen, goat’s hair, ram’s skin dyed red, sealskin, acacia-wood, oil, incense(spices), & gems(onyx stones).

God spoke to Moses, the instruments to be utilized in the Tabernacle with their positions and purposes.  God had set a upon the completion of the Tabernacle, to dwell among the Hebrews.

Moses, told the children of Israel of what was to be done and how it was to be arranged; and they obeyed and performed the actions set before them.

The children of Israel, by tribe, were to be arranged around the Tabernacle in the wilderness, as well.

From the dimensions, to the portability, (because of the trek through the wilderness), the Israelites were to follow and construct the dwelling place of YHWH, for the Tabernacle.

I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee), welcome you all to yet another post here at Ras Tafari Renaissance. I also thank everyone who has supported the efforts put forth here.  I, Lidj Yefdi, on behalf of Ras Tafari Renaissance, offer the utmost gratitude.

On this post Ras Tafari Renaissance Revelations-RRR would like to acknowledge and show our appreciation for one’s individual unprecedented diligence, determination, dedication(more Ras Tafari enlightened= “livication” [live-i-cation]) in identifying, locating, collecting and preserving vast amounts of memorabilia pertaining to Ethiopia, the Ethiopian Imperial Monarchy, Emperor Haile Sellassie I, Reggae music, Ras Tafari Livity, Jamaica, Africa & the Holy Herb: from  relatively common place, to the items that more than likely could’ve been utilized in the Imperial Palaces, themselves; also items of significance coined, by that, of Reggae music.

We here at Ras Tafari Renaissance Revelations send our thanks, and show our respect to someone who has taken it upon themselves to show to the world that an inheritance such as Imperial Ethiopia, should have, not only have a significant place in OUR hearts (speaking of Ras Tafarians & Ethiopians; in Ethiopia & in the diaspora, in particular & respectively) but, also to others of the world.  For someone like this to freely attempt to preserve artifacts from all of these related categories, and things of similar categories whether for altruistic reasons, the issue remains that the importance of the Solomonic Dynasty & all it has inspired, as well as, those who hold it in an esteemed position have found a friend in this bredrin.  Brothers & sisters , we here at Ras Tafari Renaissance Revelations, officially(I-fficially) thank bredrin Jim Marshall.

RRR commends bredrin Jim Marshall, for keeping alive memories, relics, artifacts, ephemera,  and items of great intrinsic and sentimental value among those who value Ethiopian antiquity.  We also commend his work in collecting & sharing these hard to find collectable items with other collectors.  We also certainly appreciate comments he makes uplifting the history and people of Ethiopia and its diaspora,  especially when his motivation is noted by comments such as; “…At all times, I want to offer the largest possible selection of authentic & vintage items on these subjects…”  Jim Marshall.

The books known as the World of Reggae, featuring Bob Marley(ብርሃነ ሰላሴ-Birhane Selassie) by Roger Steffens,  Stir It Up by and David Cupples, as well as, the new printing by Tsehai Publishing of Haile Sellassie’s Government by Christopher Clapham, also have all recognized the efforts to shine the light on Imperial Ethiopia and related subjects by bredrin Jim Marshall.

He is also to be commended for recently accepting a granting of the honor, rank and dignity of Grand Officer of the Order of the Star of Ethiopiaawarded by His Imperial Highness Prince Ermias Sahle-Sellassie Haile-Sellassie & the Ethiopian Crown Council which he hails as “his GREATEST and MOST HUMBLING honor in his life, by far.”  They gave him this high ranking and venerable Order of Chivalry for what they termed “…for his decades of selfless work on behalf of the Sellassie family, the nation of Ethiopia, & the Solomonic Dynasty…”
