36th RSS#(፴፮/לו) Portion Study

Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellassie I & Itege Menen Asfaw,

RRR - prototype (2015-16)

I welcome you all to a new regeneration of cycle Torah readings!  This is another one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee).

I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with a willing mind and heart(ready to learn), you will receive more than what you might have asked for, in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to seek insight) into the study of the Scriptures.  So,with this Hebrew Shabbot (or Shabbat) we move into the opening of the Torah portion with BéHa’álōtecḥ’á – בְּהַעֲלֹתְךָ, on the 18th – יח, & the 19th – יט, of the month of Siw(v)an – סִיוָן, in the year of 5776. (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)  From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation, where the current year is 2008/7508; these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known as Sítlläkʷ’s – ስትለኵስ, on the 17th – ፲፯, & on the 18th – ፲፰, of the month (ወርኀ) of Sänæy – ሰኔ.  The Ethiopic calendar, which is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet – ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez – ግእዝ).

Readings:

Numbers 8:1- 12:16

Zechariah 2: 14- 4:17

I Corinthians 10: 6-13

Revelation 11: 1-19

In this week’s portion of the study of the Scriptures, Moses is instructed by God to tell his brother, Aaron to light the seven lamps for the candlestick(Menorah) in the Tabernacle.

behaalotecha - parsha (menorah-golden-seven-branch-candlestick-lampstand)

& Aaron, did so; lighting the lamps.

[Numb. 8: 1-4]

behaalotecha - parsha [kahin with candle-Aaron]

Moses, is then also instructed to sanctify the priesthood(Levites) before the entire assembly of the children of Israel.  The children of Israel outstretched their hands forth to consecrate the blessing & cleansing of the Levites among the Hebrews, also for their service in the Tabernacle.

[Numb. 8: 5-18]

behaalotecha - parsha [outstretched of lekike israel]

The Levites were taken by God to be the firstborn among the children of Israel.  The priesthood were to adhere to Aaron and his sons, and conduct the services and duties in the Tabernacle.

The laws, commandments, and statutes, for the appointed season of the Passover were given to Moses for the children of Israel, in the wilderness of Sinai.  The laws were given in the first month(Abib/Nisan) of the second year of the Israelites’ coming out of Egypt.  The fourteenth day of this month was when the Hebrews were to keep the memorial of the Passover.  (even in the wilderness)

[Numb. 9: 1-14]

pillar of a cloud by day, & a pillar of fire by night

pillar of a cloud by day, & a pillar of fire by night

The day the Tabernacle was reared up, a cloud covered the Tabernacle, over the Tent of Meeting(the Sanctuary), and in the evening to nightfall, a pillar of fire hovered the same of the Tabernacle.

[Numb. 9: 15-23]

behaalotecha - parsha [two-silver-trumpets-numbers-9]

God then spoke to Moses, saying, speak to the children of Israel, that they make two (2) trumpets of silver; for they would be used in the calling of the assembly & for the journeying of the camps.  The rules for the blowing of these trumpets would find an alignment different from that of the blowing of the Shofar.

[Numb. 10: 1-10]

rastafari-a-blow-de-shofar

The cloud then, was taken up from Tabernacle & the children of Israel journeyed on the twentieth (20) of the second month(Iyyar/Ziw[v]) out of the wilderness of Sinai to the wilderness of Paran.

[Numb. 10: 11-36]

Taberah

The children of Israel then began to complain, and grumble for they had begun to forget the ways of God; how and why he brought them out of Egypt.  Their complaining kindled the the anger of God.

[Numb. 11: 1-3]

Now, the mixt multitude went lusting after their old ways, even from their captivity. (even after the fire at Taberah)  Yet now, in this study portion of the Scriptures the children of Israel wept again; now, for they desired flesh to eat.

[Numb. 11: 4-9]

disciples-eating-grain

Moses, heard the people and went before God, not knowing what to do for the weeping and complaining.  God instructed Moses, to gather those of the children of Israel, who were known as the elders(or wise) among them; for God would lift the burden of bearing all of the children of Israel’s problem upon himself.

[Numb. 11: 10-39]

Moses & the Seventy Elders of Israel

Moses & the Seventy Elders of Israel

God then sent a wind that brought quail to the children of Israel, & they did eat but, while the meat was in the process of consumption, a plague of death fell upon them; so much so that like Taberah, the place where the children of had fell away from the grace of God here was named Kibrot Ha Ta’aw[v]ah – (የምኞት መቃብር) קִבְרוֹת הַתַּאֲוָה‎ , or in translation the ( graves of lust ).

[Numb. 11: 31-35]

Kibrothhattaw(v)ah

At this point, from the place of the children of Israel’s graves of lust they saw it fit to move on; and so, the Israelites journeyed on to Hazeroth (ሐጼሮት/חֲצֵרוֹת).

behaalotecha - parsha [wilderness of paran]

But, upon his departure Miriam, Moses’ sister became leprous.  Aaron, Moses’ brother pleaded with him, for Miriam’s case & Moses prayed for his sister to be healed of the disease .  God gave grace and said that, seven days, Miriam should be set outside the camp; once she was healed, she could return.

So much can be said about this wonderfully gifted and blessed individual, but we will try to leave most of the more in-depth points of this man’s life up to your research.  Rabbi Matthew, wasn’t a completely complex individual especially, to those who knew him well, or knew of his work.  A leader, teacher, innovator, poised and extremely aware the world around him and at large.

To those who have yet to take a look into this great man’s life and his life’s work, you are in for a treat as you will find that he was steadfast in his teachings, loyal to those around him.  But, in most of all very truthful in his analogies, appropriations and actions.

So, today we do him his well-deserved honor as a brother, teacher, scholar, organizer of men, and pioneer among many.

We give thanks to the father for him, coming to leave a legacy, and work of love for his people.

This is Lidj Yefdi, here at Ras Tafari Renaissance Revelations, hoping all of you are in good health: mind, body & spirit; & if you just happen to be on the downside of your particular scenario, I, personally hope, wish & pray that you be given, as well as, you receive, the strength which is needed to overcome the specific situation.

As we have completed a cycle of Torah reading/studies, we as Hebrew people, as well as they who choose to assemble again, to commemorate the Hebraic memorial of Sukkot.  As Sukkot, is an “Ingathering” for faithful Hebrews, this assembly on the eighth day of a seven day festival renders a Sabbath of completion of Torah readings and Hebrew Year. (also gathering of the harvest)

shemini atzeret

Some may include, Shemini Atz’eret with the days of Sukkot or regard them as one, but this is not the case.  Shemini At’zeret was to be a sloemn assembly of its own.

Some Sukkot observances carry over into Shemini At’zeret; seeing as it is the closing the Sukkot memorial.  Readings, from the Torah & Nebi’im, along with services in most synagogues/temples of Hebraic peoples are read, where a Prayer/Psalm for Rain [Tefillat Gesham], for the year ahead, (for the crops, that were to be grown) may be recited.

 This is Lidj Yefdi, wishing everyone a very blessed recogition of Hoshana!
This Hebraic celebration culminates the appointed time of the High Holy days congruent with Sukkot.
The final day of Sukkot brings us to Hoshanna Raba.  Hoshanna Raba, is the commemoration of the “Supplication,” or the “Divine Judgment.”

Orthodox Jews, and other Chassidic sects gather for a special service.  In this special service the participants make seven (7) circuits in ritual, around the synagogue with their made lula(b)v & etrons.  (*symbolic of Sukkot)

Sephardic Jew on the Hebraic celebration of Hoshanna Raba.

In variating sects, the Shofar(or the trumpet) is sounded after every circuit is made.  The Torah scrolls are taken out of the made Arks on this commemoration day as well.  Reasoning behind these ritualistic principles is recognizing the “Final Judgment” in the last days from the initiation of the seasonal appointed times. (Hebraic holidays)*

hebrew-calendar-months-and-feast-cycle

Judgment , in doctrine of the European Jewish theory, for the new year is sealed on Yom Kippur but, not delivered until Hoshanna.  These teachings come from the original interpretation of the celebration, and memorials of the Hebrew people, especially from the time of the 2nd Temple of Jerusalem.

In the Midrash, there is also another application containing the willow.  “The “Day of the Willow,” when on the seventh day, traditionally participants in Hoshanna Raba take a willow and have it present with the other “4 Species” or “4 Kinds”.  (of the symbols from Sukkot)*

Sukkot-4species

Now, from an Ethiopic perspective and a Christian one, Hosanna (Hoshanna) takes on a bit a different interpretation.  But, repentance is most certainly a theme echoed in it as well.  But, also with that repentance is the recognition of the significance of Christ. of course.  Christ rode into Jerusalem on the back of donkey(ass) with the Disciples and the palms, were carried by all of the people.  Very significant when you are able to compare this from Scripture to the practices and tradtions of the Jewish and Hebrew people celebration Hoshanna.

Welcome, once again, to another posting here at Ras Tafari Renaissance!  On this post, the subject which we intend to cover is ushering in Hebrew Observances, that should be relevant and incorporated into the Ras Tafari consciousness.

Since the inception of Ras Tafari it has been clear that the Ras Tafarians proclaim ancestral heritage with Hebraic peoples of antiquity.  Sharing ancestry with the Imperial House of David’s, Solomonic Dynasty, in Ethiopia; by way of King Solomon & the Queen of Sheba.  With that said, seeing how Ethiopia has become the ONLY Christian church upholding its Hebraic traditions intact, it should hold a critical place in the Ras Tafari faithful and those alike’s minds to adhere to original Christian and Hebraic practices.

So, in this post we here at Ras Tafari Renaissance would like to put forward, that all that continue to, and are maybe, just checking out this site for the first time on notice.  In the continuance of bringing you all, Ras Tafari interpretations of the Scriptures from a Bible-based foundation, we’ll also bring about the basics of over-standing Hebraic Observances/Holidays/Holy Days, and build on that foundation.

We interrupt our usual posting schedule to bring you updates from in & around the Hebraic communities of our affinity.  As we continue to seek the guidance Abba-Father, we take a moment to reflect on the generation that has built upon the foundations that have been laid before us.  We recognize our patriarchs (not withholding any honor to OUR matriarchs) for their service and diligent determination to continue the work of Hebrew generations to come.

We initially refrained from posting on the immediate passing of these influential brethren but, in lieu of, their sequential transitions we now would like to make mentions of their contributions in the spirit & the truth to shed more light on the Teshub(v)a-“return” to the Father that has been taking place so rapidly.

We make mention to acknowledge Ras Seymour McLean (transitioned Oct. 2014), Rabbi Hailu Moshe Paris (Nov. 2014), & most recently Ben-Ammi Ben-Ysrael (Dec. 2014 – as reported by the immediate African Hebrew Israelite Community [Dimona] of Jerusalem; Israel)

We honor these valiant brethren and elders to us here RRR, for their service, their brotherhood, and spiritual guidance in the special time that we currently are living in today.

We also make way for the spirit of God to continue to be a lamp in the darkness of this world or turmoil as we seek to transition from out of God’s way and return to Law & Grace.

We encourage those who are willing and able to honor our Hebraic patriarchs who have passed on to the spirit world in this wilderness wandering generation.  We also hope that we have your prayers and sentiment as we continue in the way set for us in this world.  (YH willing)

16th Parsha Study: Ras Tafari Renaissance Revelations

Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellasie I &; Itege Menen Asfaw,

416951_10152196717220147_1724870670_n

I welcome you all to one of many of the interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee).

Please, excuse me for not covering what is known as the parsha or Torah study portions that preceeded this thirteenth edition? But. I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with an open mind and heart, you will receive more than what you might have asked for in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) into the study of the Scriptures.

Now, with that said, let us go right into this…

So,with this Hebrew Shabbot(or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read, & thoroughly discern, nonetheless studied either the Torah portion BeshalaKH’ – בְּשַׁלַּח , from a Jewish/Hebrew mode of study for those out in the diaspora, living outside of Jerusalem or Israel. Others who engage this type of study more than likely read the portion of Yitro. From the Jewish or Hebraic Calendar in the 5773 this Sabbath day would probably fall on the 7th & 8th day of the month Shevat-שְׁבָט. (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known as Minim Q’rb BeehOn-ምንም ቅርብ ቢሆን; on the 24th & 25th of ወርኀ(month)-ጥር(T’r). On the Ethiopic calendar, which is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) this Sabbath (or Senbet-ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church(the other language being Ge’ez-ግእዝ)

Readings:

Exodus 13:17- 17:16

Judges 4:4- 5:31

John 6:15-71

Now, for in summation of the study we have in front of us; In this portion of the study of the Scriptures, the children of Israel are finally release from the hard bondage of Egypt(with the Pharoah “or governing house”) that knew not of Joseph. Moses and his brother Aaron have spoken the words of the God of Israel to the king of Egypt and the plagues have shown the wonders that have come to pass by the mighty hand of God.

The Children of Israel have taken all of their possessions along with spoils of Egypt, which they could gather by blessing to carry along on their journey.  Upon the Israelites(Hebrew children’s) journey, Moses fulfills Joseph’s wishes of taking his bones out of Egypt & on the journey of the Hebrews back to their Promised Land, to be buried with his ancestors.  {Ex. 13:19}

[Exodus 13:19_ And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him: for he had straitly swron the children of Israel that, saying God shall surely visit you; and ye shall carry up my bones hence with you.]

Its been said that in some circles of Ras Tafari, the Legend of Reggae music, Bob Marley, has been compared to Biblical Joseph: hmmmm,…???

LOVE & HONOR, JAH(God) GUIDE RITA MARLEY ALONG WITH THE SEEDS OF THE GREAT LEGEND OF REGGAE MUSIC & RAS TAFARI TUFF GONG!!!

The children of Israel began their “Exodus”(-exit, going out) from Egypt & were lead by God, even in their ignorance of omni-prescence that was with them.

And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness. And the LORD went before them by dayin a pillar of a cloud, to lead them by the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day & night: He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people. {Ex. 13: 20-22}

tabernacle(cloud)

PILLAR OF FIRE: BY NIGHT, TO GIVE LIGHT

Israel’s [possible] track out of Egypt

In discontent, and the words of some of the attendants in the Egyptian court, Pharaoh’s heart was hardened [by God], so Pharaoh summoned for 600 of his first choice of chariots, along with all the chariots of Egypt, with the captains of them & was in “hot-pursuit” of returning the children of Israel back to Egypt(& back to servitude). {Ex. 14: 3-12}

Fearful of the pursuit of the chariots of Egypt, the children of Israel, cried out to God, & turn to Moses, in disbelief of the happenings in front of them. Moses, then commands them to fear not, for the God of Israel will do battle for them,…they are commanded by God, through Moses, to go: FORWARD!

Moses is then commanded by God to stretch forth his rod & God through Moses splits the Sea of Reeds(Red Sea) and the children of Israel travel through on dry land. Whereas, the hardening of Pharaoh’s heart drove him to pursue the Israelites/Hebrews into the sea; they were swallowed up by it. & the children of Israel had the words of Moses fulfilled right before their eyes; God would do battle for them, if they stayed in the way of his light, the Egyptians which they saw, they would never see again, & they would know the YHWH EloHIM is GOD {Ex. 14: 13-31}

Moses, then sang, & the children of Israel, did sing…

{Ex. 15}

Song Of The Sea/Song of Moses: Exodus 15: 1-21

Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord, saying,

“I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously;
the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.
 The Lord is my strength and my song,
and he has become my salvation;
this is my God, and I will praise him,
my father’s God, and I will exalt him.
 The Lord is a man of war;
the Lord is his name.

“Pharaoh’s chariots and his host he cast into the sea,
and his chosen officers were sunk in the Red Sea.
 The floods covered them;
they went down into the depths like a stone.
 Your right hand, O Lord, glorious in power,
your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy.
 In the greatness of your majesty you overthrow your adversaries;
you send out your fury; it consumes them like stubble.
 At the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up;
the floods stood up in a heap;
the deeps congealed in the heart of the sea.
 The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake,
I will divide the spoil, my desire shall have its fill of them.
I will draw my sword; my hand shall destroy them.’
 You blew with your wind; the sea covered them;
they sank like lead in the mighty waters.

 “Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods?
Who is like you, majestic in holiness,
awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?
 You stretched out your right hand;
the earth swallowed them.

 “You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed;
you have guided them by your strength to your holy abode.
 The peoples have heard; they tremble;
pangs have seized the inhabitants of Philistia.
 Now are the chiefs of Edom dismayed;
trembling seizes the leaders of Moab;
all the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away.
 Terror and dread fall upon them;
because of the greatness of your arm, they are still as a stone,
till your people, O Lord, pass by,
till the people pass by whom you have purchased.
 You will bring them in and plant them on your own mountain,
the place, O Lord, which you have made for your abode,
the sanctuary, O Lord, which your hands have established.

For when the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went into the sea, the Lord brought back the waters of the sea upon them, but the people of Israel walked on dry ground in the midst of the sea. 20 Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and dancing. 21 And Miriam sang to them:

Song of the Sea- שירת הים (Shirat H’yam)

HOW QUICKLY DO, ONES-N-ONES, FORGET THOUGH…?

In the wilderness of Shur, the children of Israel begin to lose faith, & murmur against Moses, because of thirst. {Ex. 15:  22-27}

& then they murmur again, against Moses & Aaron, because of their hunger, next…Moses explains that God hears their murmuring & will provide for them, in exchange that they keep all his commandments & statutes {Ex. 16:}

The Israelites are then, faced with an enemy to them: Amalek. Joshua, the son of Nun( Hoshea/Yeshua ben Nun) is called by Moses to go and chose men of the camps to fight Amalek, while Moses will stand atop of a hill with the rod God, in hand. During the battle, it was apparent that whenever Moses raised his arms with the rod, Israel prevailed, but when his arms grew tired Israel loss ground, so Aaron & Hur, placed stones under Moses’ hands to keep them upright until Israel had emerged as victor. Moses is then told by God, to write this victory as a memorial in a book, because Amalek(the Amalikites) will be an enemy to God from generation-to-generation. God said that he would utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.
