In this portion of the study of the Scriptures, we begin with Jacob making his return to the land of Canaan, with his family after a twenty year tenure in Haran. (Aram)

[Gen. 32: 4-6]

wayishlach - parsha [esau and jacob]

Jacob set out to meet his brother, Esau, sought to do the same, upon hearing of Jacob‘s arrival in HebronJacob, weary of the past events that took place with his brother, (…also his uncle/father-in-law…Laban) sent word ahead with gifts, to appease Esau.

[Gen. 32: 7-8]

wayishlach - parsha [jacob at peniel]

Jacob, praying to God, to see him through the possibly unfavorable encounter with his brother, Esau; feared that an attempt on his life at the hands of brother Esau, would be inevitable.  But, Jacob harkened to the call God made to him, of his father Isaac, and Abraham.

Jacob, then made it so that all of his household, were to know the God that preserved him throughout his years.  So, he made sure that they put away strange things from among them, before going to Bethel once more.  Deborah, who came with Jacob‘s mother Rebekah to the land of Canaan with Isaac, dies just before God appears to Jacob again.  Rachel, Jacob‘s wife, then bear labor pains for the second time, & bear a second son, which she named “Benoni“(son of my sorrow), but Jacob named him, “Benjamin“(son of my right hand).  But, Rachel passed at Ephrath, in Bethleham.  Jacob set a memorial stone on the grave of his wife, Rachel.

Jacob & Leah, went to see Isaac, but while they were away Reuben, lusted after Bilhah & lay with her unknowingly to her before it was too late for her to notice that she was not with her husband; but Reuben loved her, as if she were to be his wife.  Jacob was exceedingly wroth with Reuben because he had lain with Bilhah.” (Apocrapha: Gen. 35)  For this, Reuben defiled his birthright, as the firstborn of Israel.

Readings:

Genesis 12:1 – 17:27

Isaiah 40:27 – 41:16

Romans 4: 1-25

Leaving off with descendants of Noah, from the last portion of the Scripture studies, LeKH’ LeKH’a-לֶךְ-לְךָ is the set of readings for this Sabbath.

Abram of Ur, in Chaldea, a descendant of Noah, was spoken to by God.

[Gen. 12:1]

Ur(Chaldea), near the Euphrates & Tigiris rivers.

Abram, was told by God to leave his country and people, in Chaldea.  So Abram, left with Sarai(his wife), and Lot(his nephew) traveled south.  God sought to bless Abram, exceedingly.

[Gen. 12: 2-10]

Gen. 12:2 ; Gen.15:5

Famine in those lands took Abram to Egypt, where passed off his wife, as his sister; for he feared he would be killed because of her beauty, in the sight of the Egyptians.

lech lecha - parsha (abrmcov)

But, because of her beauty Pharaoh sought to entreat her, for he sought to make her a wife of his.  But, his mind was plagued because of Sarai(Abram’s wife).  So much so, that he confronted Abram about the situation and ended up sending on their way peacefully, with quite hefty caravan.

[Gen. 12: 10-20]

Abraham’s Caravan _ painting by James J. Tissot

While in Egypt, Abram and his family acquired very much, in riches.  But, if got to the point where there was strife among them, (within their camps).  Lot(Abram’s nephew) and Abram, consolidated to negotiate not to struggle with each other for there was so much land, that they need not quarrel over anything.

[Gen. 13: 1-12]

But, the men of Sodom, near where Abram had made a place for him cattle, herds, and possessions were a wicked and distasteful people.  Wickedness abounded so much so, to the point that Abram separated himself from among them, at Mamre, in Hebron.

[Gen. 13: 13-18]

The Three Altars of Abraham

War, in those days, between many kings of many nations, brought Sodom & Gomorrah to an expected destruction.

[Gen. 14: 1-24]

Melchizedeq

Fortunately, Abram was able to bring Lot out, just before meeting Melchizedek; the king of Salem.

Santa Pollinare Mosaic - Order of Melchizedek

Abram, was then blessed by God, in that by his wife Sarai, who was barren, would give birth to a son. (even in their old age)  Abram was given vision by God, that his seed would be innumerable, for he would be the father of many nations.  God instructed Abram, to make offerings, he did it & guarded it.

[Gen. 15: 1-11]

lech lecha - parsha [Tissot_Abram_Guarding_His_Sacrifice]

Then Abram had visions of the future generations of his to come.

[Gen. 15: 12-21]

Sarai, feeling as though she had been restrained by God from bearing any children, gave Abram, her maid, Hagar(Agar), who was an Egyptian, in attempt beget children of AbramHagar, conceived of Abram, but saw Sarai, differently afterwards. (by contempt)  Sarai, then feeling as though she brought about strife in Abram‘s house, she brought the plight to Abram, and wanted Abram to put her away.  God, complied because he sought to make the child of Hagar & Abram, a mighty nations of his own. (his name would be Ishmael)

[Gen. 16: 1-16]

Hagar & Isma'il (ibn Ibrahim)

Between Abram & God, was a covenant made: for he would the father of many nations, and be fruitful exceedingly, kings would be from him, the land between the two rivers would be of his possession, & the land of Canaan would be for an everlasting possession, his seed shall circumcise their flesh(males); also he & his wife would have new names.  Instead of Abram, his name would be Abraham & instead of Sarai, her name would be Sarah.

Abraham would also have a son, which he would name Isaac, his son Ishmael would grow to be a mighty nation.

[Gen. 17: 1-21]

And, these were the facets that made up, what is known as the Abrahamic Covenant

As we enter into our second portion of the study of the Scriptures, we give thanks to Abba-Father, for his grace and seek continuously his knowledge & wisdom, earnestly.

This portion of study comprises the story of Noah and his three(3) sons, also the Tower of Babel.  Three very intricate stories, that have told & re-told from various perspectives.  But, in this compilation we focus on the ancient Hebraic, Ethiopic-Christian and the modern Ras Tafarian perspectives; mainly to stay on topic and bring forward a balanced viewpoint unbiased to the truth of these elaborate mythos.

noach - parsha [epic-of-gilgamesh-flood-myth]

In continuation of the Torah studies, on this Sabbath the times of Noah, are the focus.  The study portions deal mostly with the Great Flood, (which has a significant resemblance of the Epic of Gilgamesh mythos).

noach - parsha [great flood and the Ark]

This portion also deals with the building of Noah’s Ark, which God had commanded him to build for the coming of the Great Flood.  Mainly for the iniquity of the world.  The world before the flood had become extremely corrupted  and vain, so God had planned to “wash” the world in a sense, of its corrupted mentality.

After the Flood, Noah made an offering to God.  God at this point, vowed that

“the Earth would not again be cursed to the ground any more for man’s sake.  The imagination of man’s heart evil [vain] from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.”

The studies also bring us to the truths and lies of the alleged “Curse of Ham.”

Noah Cursing Canaan _ illustration by Gustave Dore' from the 1865 la Sainte Bible

Supposedly in the interpretations of the story of Noah’s sons; the three men were of three different races.  Truthfully speaking we here at RRR, could not consent to this external Biblical interpretations of most of these commentators.

noach - parsha [shem ham yapheth]

Our reasoning can be found in the confirmation of the sciences that give a more profound elaboration of these ancient texts.  For example, in regards to the “RACE” question of the three sons of Noah; we clearly recognize that proven by science congruent to the Scriptures, there is only ONE race (human).

This week’s portion of the study of the Scriptures, is Toldot, by Hebrew meaning “generations“, pertaining to descent.  Coincidentally, the readings begin the Rebekah enduring a long period of time where she was barren; having no child with her husband, IsaacIsaac loved Rebekah dearly, & pleaded God on her behalf.

[Gen. 25: 20-21]

His prayers were accounted for and God blessed them, because Rebekah conceived.

[Gen. 25: 19-23]

Rebekah & Isaac

Rebekah was due to give birth to twins, in which God spoke to her, saying that that were two nations that struggled within her.

Two manner of people, that would be separated from her.  One would be stronger than the other, and the older would serve the younger.  Thus Esau & Jacob were born to, Rebekah &Isaac.  Esau was a skilled hunter, Jacob was a simple man, dwelling in tents, wholesome.  But, leaving a man of the field to match wits with a man of intellect, Jacob was able to convince Esau to give up his birthright. (But Esau, despising his birthright made it all but difficult)

[Gen. 25: 24-34]

After convincing Esau to give up his birthright, Jacob, with the help of his mother Rebekah also was able to receive a blessing from his father, Isaac.

( a blessing that was supposedly, meant for Esau)

Esau, even took wives from among the Hittites, which was of concern for Rebekah & Isaac.

Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellassie I & Itege Menen Asfaw,

This is another one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee).

I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with a willing mind and heart(ready to learn), you will receive more than what you might have asked for, in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to seek insight) into the study of the Scriptures.

So,with this Hebrew Shabbot (or Shabbat) we move into the opening of the Torah portion with  Nōăcḥ – נוֹחַ [נֹחַ.]  on the 30th – ל, of the month of Tishreï – תִּשְׁרִי‎, & on the 1st – א, of the month of Cḥeshw(v)an – חֶשְׁוָן, [this Hebraic month is also known as; Mar’Cḥeshw(v)an – מַרְחֶשְׁוָן, in the year of 5778. (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)  From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation, where the current year is 2010/7510; these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known, also as, YeNōḥ – የኖኅ.    This would calculate as the 9th – ፱, & on the 10th – ፲, of the month of T’Qĭmt-ጥቅምት.  The Ethiopic calendar is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet – ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic, which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez – (ግእዝ).

Readings:

Genesis 6:9 – 11:32

Isaiah 54:1- 55:5

Matthew 24: 36-46

Hebrews 11:7

I Peter 3: 18-22

**SHABBAT ROSH CḤODESH (CḤESHW[v]AN/Mar – CḤESHW[v[AN)***

rosh chodesh cheshwan-chehsvan (marcheshwan-marcheshvan)

Supposedly in the interpretations of the story of Noah’s sons; the three men were of three different races.  Truthfully speaking we here at RRR, could not consent to this external Biblical interpretation of most of these commentators.

noach - parsha [shem ham yapheth]

Our reasoning can be found in the confirmation of the sciences that give a more profound elaboration of these ancient texts.  For example, in regards to the “RACE” question of the three sons of Noah; we clearly recognize that proven by science congruent to the Scriptures, there is only ONE race (human).

The Sabbath readings also conclude with the story of the Tower of Babel.  Another story from the Scriptures that has been diluted with its dissemination.

Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellassie I & Itege Menen Asfaw,

I welcome you all to a new regeneration of cycle Torah readings!  This is another one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (or Yefdeyah).

I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with a willing mind and heart(ready to learn), you will receive more than what you might have asked for, in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) into the study of the Scriptures.

So,with this Hebrew Shabbot(or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to the opening of  the Torah portions with W(V)aYecḥї – וַיְחִי.  On the Jewish or Hebraic Calendar in this year 5777, this Sabbath day would probably fall on the 15thטו, & on the 16thטז, of the month of Teb(v)et – טֵבֵת, for this week, in this mode of study;  for those out in the diaspora or outside of Jerusalem/Israel.  (The Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon) &, from an Ethiopic-Christian perspective, in what may be known as the year 2009/2029/7509, on the Ethiopic calendar.  This calculation, with its readings from the Scriptures, would align to the 5th – ፭, & on the 6th – ፮, of the month of Tah’sas – ታኅሣሥ.  In the Scriptures, this portion of study would also be known as Be’Nōräbät – በኖረበት.  The Ethiopic calendar is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet-ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic, which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez-(ግእዝ).

Readings:

Genesis 47: 28 – 50:26

I Kings 2:1 – 3:12

I Peter 1: 1-9

Hebrews 11: 21-22

This portion of our studies in the Scriptures, will conclude the first of Book of Genesis.  While continuing study in the last Torah portion of Genesis the study deals with Jacob‘s(Israel) tenure in Egypt.  Jacob(Israel), felt that the time drew near to his death, so he spoke to his son, Joseph; telling him of an obligation he would like his son to fulfill.

Jacob(Israel) desired to be laid to rest among his ancestors in the land of Canaan, which God has promised that his descendants would inherit.

[Gen. 47: 28-30]

wayechi - parsha [joseph's journey to egypt]

Joseph, after speaking with his father, Jacob(Israel) and taking into account that his father drew close to his death; Joseph brought his two sons, Manasseh & Ephraim to him.

Joseph & his wife Asenath - with their two sons Manasseh & Ephraim.

Joseph & his wife Asenath – with their two sons Manasseh & Ephraim.

Jacob(Israel), told his two grandsons [Manasseh & Ephraim] to come closer for he would bless them according to the covenant he received from God and his ancestors: Abraham & Isaac.  Oddly, Jacob(Israel), blessed Ephraim, the younger son, in the place of the elder sonManasseh.  Even, after the attempts of Joseph, who noticed that his father blessed his younger son in the place of his eldest and vice-versa.

[Gen. 48: 1-22]

Jacob(Israel) blesses Manasseh & Ephraim.

After blessing his grandchildren, Jacob(Israel), then proceeded to bless all of his children, as well.  Each one receiving a blessing, pertaining to themselves.

[Gen. 49: 1-33]

wayechi -parsha [Jacob's belessings to his sons before his death in Egypt]

Jacob(Israel), then died in Egypt & Joseph, made preparations for his body & burial, but more importantly the fulfillment of his oath to his father.  Because Joseph, was such a great man of stature in Egypt, the passing of his father was a grievous thing among the Egyptians.*  This was so much so, that when Joseph, went to Pharaoh and told him of the oath that his father wished him to fulfill, Pharaoh allowed it, even allowing many of the elders of the house, and of the land, along with servants of the house to go with him to Canaan.  But, upon arrival into the land of Canaan, the Canaanites saw the people that brought up Jacob(Israel), from Egypt, & they saw them mourning at Atad….& said “this is a grievous mourning for the Egyptians.”*  This day brought about the name of “Abel Mitz’raim – אָבֵל מִצרַיִם,” which translates to the “Meadow of Egypt“, or the “Mourning of Egypt.“  All in the procession for the remembrance of the passing of Jacob. [the Patriarch of Israel]

[Gen. 50: 1-14]

wayechi - parsha [Egypt mourns Jacob's death (Israel_in_Egypt)]

Joseph’s brothers, thought surely after their father’s passing that Joseph would in one way or another return the favor for their jealousy of him from their past.  But Joseph did no such thing, but returned to Egypt & witnessed the birth of his other grandchildren and great-grandchildren until his Joseph’s passing in Egypt.  Joseph also made oath with the all of Israelites; that they should bring his bones out of Egypt & lay him to rest with his ancestors in the land of Canaan. [as his father Jacob, did]
