Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellassie I & Itege Menen Asfaw,

Greetings, yet again to one and all, from “Lidj Yefdi” (pronounced Lij; Yêf-dee).

I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with a willing mind and heart(ready to learn), you will receive more than what you might have asked for, in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to seek insight) into the study of the Scriptures.  So, with this Hebrew Shabbat(or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, nonetheless studied the Torah portion of Nōăcḥ – ( [נוֹחַ [נֹחַ.on the 5th – ה, & on the 6th – ו, of the month of month of Cḥeshw(v)an – חֶשְׁוָן, [this Hebraic month is also known as; Mar’Cḥeshw(v)an – מַרְחֶשְׁוָן]‎, in the year of 5781. (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)  From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation, where the current year is 2013/7513; these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known, also as; YeNōḥ – የኖኅ.  This would calculate as the 13th – ፲፫, & on the 14th – ፲፬, of the month of T’Qĭmt – ጥቅምት.  The Ethiopic calendar is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet – ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic, which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez – (ግእዝ).

As we enter into our second portion of the study of the Scriptures, we give thanks to Abba-Father, for his grace and seek continuously his knowledge & wisdom, earnestly.

This portion of study comprises the story of Noah and his three(3) sons, also the Tower of Babel.  Three very intricate stories, that have told & re-told from various perspectives.  But, in this compilation we focus on the ancient Hebraic, Ethiopic-Christian and the modern Ras Tafarian perspectives; mainly to stay on topic and bring forward a balanced viewpoint unbiased to the truth of these elaborate mythos.

noach - parsha [epic-of-gilgamesh-flood-myth]

In continuation of the Torah studies, on this Sabbath the times of Noah, are the focus.  The study portions deal mostly with the Great Flood, (which has a significant resemblance of the Epic of Gilgamesh mythos).

noach - parsha [great flood and the Ark]

This portion also deals with the building of Noah’s Ark, which God had commanded him to build for the coming of the Great Flood.  Mainly for the iniquity of the world.  The world before the flood had become extremely corrupted  and vain, so God had planned to “wash” the world in a sense, of its corrupted mentality.

Supposedly in the interpretations of the story of Noah’s sons; the three men were of three different races.  Truthfully speaking we here at RRR, could not consent to this external Biblical interpretations of most of these commentators.

Our reasoning can be found in the confirmation of the sciences that give a more profound elaboration of these ancient texts.  For example, in regards to the “RACE” question of the three sons of Noah; we clearly recognize that proven by science congruent to the Scriptures, there is only ONE race (human).

✡ Sigd – ሰግድ ✡

Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellassie I & Itege Menen Asfaw,

Greetings, yet again to one and all, from “Lidj Yefdi” (pronounced Lij; Yêf-dee).

Ras Tafari Renaissance writes to give perspective to the Ethiopian-Hebrew(Jewish) holiday of Sigd.  This Hebrew(Jewish) holiday holds specific significance only among the Ethiopian Jews, better known as the “Beta Israel.”  Among many different ethnic Jewish/Hebrew peoples, (taking in specific: geographical location, heritage, preserving of traditional practices, & observances to Torah) there are certain adherents observed, and Sigd seems to be one of those specific adherences pertaining to the Ethiopian Jews. Though, now there are many Ethiopian Jews that have relocated to the State of Israel, & other parts of the world the tradition continues to bear perserverance.

http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Judaism/sigd.html

sigd5

Sigd, is celebrated 50 days after Yom Kippur, marked by fasting, praying, & the entire community walking to the highest point, on a mountain, (in Ethiopia.)  The Qessim(or priests) of the community would carry the Orit(Ethiopic Torah), written in the liturgical language of Ge’ez, and the Book of Nehemiah would be recited.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigd

Sigd, has two oral traditions among the Ethiopian Jews, dating back to the 6th & 15th centuries, respectively.  Sigd symbolizes the acceptance of the Torah. The Qessïm have also maintained a tradition of the holiday arising as a result of persecution by Christian kings, during which the Qessïm retreated into the wilderness to appeal to God for His mercy. Additionally they sought to unify the Beta Israel and prevent them from abandoning what the Ethiopian Jews, or the Beta Israel knew as the ኃይማኖት – CH’aymanot  (laws and traditions of Beta Israel) under persecution. So they looked toward the Book of Nehemiah and were inspired by Ezra‘s presenting the “book of the law of Moses/Torah” before the assembly of Israel after it had been lost to them during Babylonian exile.

So,with this Hebrew Shabbot (or Shabbat) we move into the opening of the Torah portion with  Nōăcḥ – נוֹחַ [נֹחַ.]  on the 30th – ל, of the month of Tishreï – תִּשְׁרִי‎, & on the 1st – א, of the month of Cḥeshw(v)an – חֶשְׁוָן, [this Hebraic month is also known as; Mar’Cḥeshw(v)an – מַרְחֶשְׁוָן, in the year of 5778. Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellassie I & Itege Menen Asfaw,

I welcome you all to a new regeneration of cycle Torah readings!  This is another one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (or Yefdeyah).

I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with a willing mind and heart(ready to learn), you will receive more than what you might have asked for, in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) into the study of the Scriptures.

So,with this Hebrew Shabbot(or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to the opening of  the Torah portions with Nōăcḥ – נוֹחַ [נֹחַ.]  On the Jewish or Hebraic Calendar in this year 5777, this Sabbath day would probably fall on the 3rd-ג , the 4th-ד, of the month of Cḥeshw(v)an – חֶשְׁוָן, [this Hebraic month is also known as; Mar’Cḥeshw(v)an – מַרְחֶשְׁוָן, for this week, in this mode of study;  for those out in the diaspora or outside of Jerusalem/Israel.  (The Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon) &, from an Ethiopic-Christian perspective, in what may be known as the year 2009/2029/7509, on the Ethiopic calendar.  This calculation, with its readings from the Scriptures, would align to the 25th – ፳፭, & the 26th – ፳፮,  of the (ወርኀ)month of T’Qĭmt – ጥቅምት.  In the Scriptures, this portion of study would also be known as YeNōḥ – የኖኅ.  The Ethiopic calendar is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet-ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic, which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez-(ግእዝ).

Readings:

Genesis 6:9 – 11:32

Isaiah 54:1- 55:5

Matthew 24: 36-46

Hebrews 11:7

I Peter 3: 18-22

The studies also bring us to the truths and lies of the alleged “Curse of Ham.”

Supposedly in the interpretations of the story of Noah’s sons; the three men were of three different races.  Truthfully speaking we here at RRR, could not consent to this external Biblical interpretation of most of these commentators.

Our Ras Tafari culture & heritage, gives us a discipline to follow so that we retain, our ancestry, spiritually, mentally & physically.  In continuing our studies and bringing about a progressive consciousness, we here at RRR intend to bring about the education and mores of a commendable community acceptable to its Supreme Being and not deviating from the original or true intent of its humble beginnings.  Staying in the lines of that context and adding onto the elements that make up the Ras Tafari collective mentality of the connectivity of this “way of life” that reflects the combination of religious ideals, community accountability, and reaffirmation reinforcement.

Going forward, we continue our studies in the examination of the original historical events of the past which have been tied to religious tradition, we’ve come now to the celebration of the Cḥănūkăh.

chanukah

Contrary to the many modern interpretations of this Mōedïm(Appointed Time/Holiday/Holy Day), Ch’anukkah is NOT a western ideological equivalent to “Christmas.”  Throughout the many centuries that have passed since the actual happenings of this significant event, there have been modifications to the recognition of this event.  But, in going bit deeper than what is presented on the surface of available information spread throughout the world today, we find Ch’anukkah to be a shining example and lesson of the struggle for survival of the Hebraic culture & faith.

The Seleucid Empire in 200 BC (before expansion into Anatolia and Greece). _   Seleucid Empire/

Seleúkeia (310 – 63BC)

The Seleucid Empire was established during the time of Alexander the “Great.”  His infantry general, Seleucus I Nicantor, was whom the Empire of the Near East gets its name sake from established tributary dominions in accordance to the Hellenistic Greco period.

During the reign of Alexander the Great, his armies conquered Syria, Egypt and Palestine, but allowed the lands under his control to continue observing their own religions and retain a certain degree of autonomy. Under this relatively benevolent rule, many Hebraic-Judeans assimilated much of Hellenistic culture(Greek), adopting the language, the customs and the dress of the Greeks, in ways like many immigrants adopt to the country of their newly found domicile upon settlement.

More than a century later, one of the four successors of Alexander, Antiochus IV was in control of that region. He began to oppress the Israelites of the region severely, placing a Hellenistic priest in the Temple of Jerusalem, massacring them, prohibiting the practice of the faith as they had centuries before, and desecrating the Temple by requiring the sacrifice not acceptable by the law of YHWH (Hebraic God) taught by Moses on the altar.

chanukah11

This led to outrage for the utter disregard and attempted humiliation of the Israelites of the region.  Two groups then arose and opposed Antiochus: simply a  nationalistic group led by Mattathias the Hasmonean, and his son Judah Maccabee(“the Hammer“), and a religious traditionalist group of that time known as the Chasidim/Chasideans, some interpret them as being the proceeding to the Pharisees (no direct connection to the modern movement known as Chasidic Judaism or Chasidim). The two groups joined into what would be known as the Maccabean Revolt (16 against both the assimilation of the Hellenistic Jews and oppression by the Seleucid Greek government. The revolution succeeded and the Temple was in so many words re- consecration.

So, in summation of the events that brought about the commemoration of the Moedim(Hebraically) of the recognition of Ch’anukkah; it is the cognitive celebration over the victory of the religious, traditional, & heritage keepers over the internal subtle subversion, and the external threats of dominance.
