Ras Tafari Renaissance writes to give perspective to the Ethiopian commemoration of what is known in Ras Tafarian circles as the “EarthStrong” or Birth date of Ras Tafari, H.I.M.self.  Prophecies were fulfilled, constellations were aligned, what more can we here at Ras Tafari Renaissance say about the birth date, of His Imperial Majesty Haile Sellassie (born July 23, 1892;  Täfäri Makʷennin wolde-Mikáèl [ተፈሪ መኳንን ወልደ ሚካኤል]).

In Ejersa Goro in the Harage Province, some 18 miles outside the city of Harar, Ethiopia. he was born to Ras Makʷennin (or pronounced Makonnen) & Yashimabet Ali; even in a Christ-like manner in rural Harar, of the late 1800s [1892].  He was the son of Ras Makʷennin, Governor of Harar under his kinsman, Emperor Menelik IIRas Makonnen, a Shoa Amharan noble, was married to an Oromo, Yashimabet, who died two years after Lij Tafari’s birth.  The youngest of ten children,  Täfäri was the only surviving and legitimate son of Ras Makonnen, the governor of Harar, which allowed him to become involved in the political field (if you please…?), as far as, the Kingdoms of Ethiopia stood.

In a significant break with precedence, Lij Tafari Makonnen was raised with an understanding of world affairs, and with an exposure to the outside world. He was to become the first Emperor of Ethiopia to have traveled extensively abroad.

Ras Makonnen, and therefore Lij Tafari Makonnen, were directly of the Solomonic Line, as was Emperor Menelik himself and Tafari Makonnen’s great-great grandfather, Negus Sahela Selassie, of Shoa. King Sahela (Sahle) Selassie had already made treaties with foreign states, including Queen Victoria’s Britain.

The coming forth of Haile Sellassie to the earthly plane was an emphatic occurrence that its still celebrated to this day in age, especially by Ras Tafarians worldwide.  Mainly because of its prophetic institution, and Biblical reverence within historical events.  These succeeding events that took place, worldwide but especially in Ethiopia, brought about the recognition of the importance of the Scriptures, in real time.

Ras Tafari Renaissance writes to give perspective to the Ethiopic Tewahido-Orthodox, celebration of Fasika.  In other circles of the Liturgical adherents to the Ethiopian Tewahido-Orthodox Church, the name for this observance, can also be called Be’al Tinsa’e-በዓል ትንሣኤ.  I refrain from using the Western Christendom adherances to the psuedo-equivalent, known as Easter; mainly because at the sheer core of the observance of Easter, stems from Greco-Roman Mythology(Eros, Easter Eggs, Easter Bunny, Greek Mythology etc.), and the origin of the celebration of Fasika, comes from the Hebraic, Passover(Pesach/PesaKH’-פֶּסַח) & Feast of Unleavened Bread (KH’ag/Chag Ha’Motz’ot-Chag ha-Matzot (in Hebrew)).

Fasika commemorates the Resurrection of CHRIST, though the exact day for celebration can be calculated from a perspective that is only slightly in contrast to the original calculation.  Through and through, Fasika assuredly gives a better foundation in the surreal conclusion that is the life of CHRIST.


Fasika is an extremely climatic celebration, like the Roman Catholic Church fasting season(often called “Lent“), but predating it by hundreds of years, the Ethiopian Tewahido-Orthodox Church adherents go into a fasting, and prayer period consisting of about approx., 40-to-56 days.  This important and soul-searching, period of time is known to the adherents as Hudade-ሑዳዴ, or Abiy’ Ts’ome-ዓቢይ ጾመ.


The Church, in her earliest days, recognized the necessity for her children to “chastise the body and bring it under subjection”, as St. Paul advises.  The body is ever striving for mastery over the spirit; besides the external sources of temptation, “the world”, we have always another source with us which is a part of our nature. This is the reason for mortificationSelf denial is in lawful things enables us to turn with great earnestness to spiritual things.  It is on these grounds that the Ethiopian church has strictly adhered to the injunctions of the Didascalia and enjoyed upon the faithful, the longest and most austere fasts in the world.  Fasting implies abstention from food and drink, in one sense of understanding. Special days are appointed for fasting.

Every Wednesday and Friday, are days of fasting because on Wednesday the Jews held a council in which they rejected and condemned our Lord (Jesus/Iyesus) and on Friday they crucified him;  according the Christian theology.

The fasting of this particular, observance in the Tewahido Church – (Ethiopian Orthodox Christian Church) are ordained by the Fät’há Nägäst – or plainly translated to English as the “Law of the Kings.”

During “Lent” (Hudade/Abiy Ts’om) in Ethiopia, Christians don’t eat or buy any animal products like meat, eggs, butter, milk, yogurt, cream and cheese.

On Palm Sunday, people wear head bands and rings made of palm leaves with crosses marked on them.

The first  Easter Day (Fasika/Tinsa’e) service actually starts at 8.00pm on Easter Saturday night and lasts until 3.00 am on “Easter” Sunday  (Resurrection Sunday) morning! Most people go to the whole service and wear their best clothes. These are often white and are called ‘YeAbesha Libs‘ in the modern time of today more originally “YeEtyopiayawiyan Libs“.  People have candles made of cotton and wax called ‘twaf‘.  At 10.00 pm drummers start playing and accompanying the Priests as they chant a prayer called the ‘Geez‘. (or the Ancient Ethiopic language)

I welcome you all to again to Ras Tafari Renaissance Revelations, for the Ethiopic celebration of Timk(Q)et.  Timket, is the Ethiopian-Christian celebration in a symbolic manner of “Baptism” or “Epiphany.”

Celebrated on the 10th day of the (ወኀ)month of T’ir(ጥር), it commemorates the Adoration of the Magi, who followed the Star of the East, & the Baptism of Christ.
In other references Epiphany, could also be commemorated for the wedding at Cana, also.

In the Ethiopian Orthodox-Tewahedo Church, it is the most important festival in the year, seeing as how the Tabot-ታቦት, or the representation of the Ark of the Covenant is wrapped in priestly cloth and lead in procession for a reenactment of the Baptism of Christ, in the Jordan River.


Many Eastern Orthodox Christians have various celebrations, rites, an rituals for the feast day, as well.

I greet one & all with the words of peace (Shalom/Selam), giving thanks and praises to the Most High for all of the blessings I’ve received.  Namely, the reception of the posts and efforts made here on this blog over the past couple of years.  I have admitted my flaws to a certain extent and upon presenting my information all of your support is greatly appreciated.

The special post for today is an exploration and presentation on the Ras Tafari in the diaspora of the western world & their contributions to the development of Africa; post-slave trade, and post-colonial era.

Afro-Americans, Afro-Caribbean, and Afro-Hispanic people had shown their support, and often times, allegiance to the Kingdom of Ethiopia.  The reasons being were for the numerous mysteries that continued to attract people to the secluded landlocked country.  Themes stemming from the religious aspect, the halted development in various field during the time of unagitated aggression (from Fascism).  Ethiopia, for a time seemed to have not only captured eyes and ears of the world but the hearts, as well.

Many know of the contributions of the Caribbean peoples of African descent, but little is known of the descendants in the diaspora of other places aside from the valiant Afro-Caribbean islanders.

On October 4, 1935, the Fascists of Benito Mussolini’s Italy invaded the Empire of Ethiopia. Ethiopian, being the only non-colonized African country asides from Liberia (to a certain extent) the invasion of Ethiopia sparked a profound response amongst Afro/African-Americans.  While Italian-American who supported Fascist Italy, signed up and volunteered to enlist their skills, and resources to Italy; the Afro-Americans enlisted their support and skills, to Ethiopia.

 Of course, after the great victory of Ethiopia over Fascist Italy and end of World War II (WWII) came, Emperor Haile Sellassie I granted 500 hectares of land to any of the descendants of Africans, (though members of the Ethiopian World Federation Inc., Ras Tafari communities in the Caribbean & the USA, would become the custodians of this mission) who suffered the atrocities of the diabolical Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.

This was only the result of multiple and tactful operations made by the efforts of the Ethiopian Empire and the adoration from Afro-Americans.  The founding of the Ethiopian World Federation, Inc. (Aug. 25, 1937; NY, USA), and the mobilization of the descendants of African slaves during the time of Fascist aggression.  These actions lead to the settlement of the land of Shashamane; Oromiya, Ethiopia on the continent of Africa.

Afro-Americans, along with Afro-Hispanics, and Afro-Caribbean peoples, organized themselves to seek more settlement post-slavery, and industrialization in the West, which unrest among these nations not of their origin provided constant struggle for peaceful sustainability.  The 1961 Africa Mission, which many from the various Ras Tafarian communities, and members of the Ethiopian World Federation put together and carried out with advisory of some African nations.

45th Kifil Study: Ras Tafari Renaissance Revelations

So, with this Hebrew Shabbot(or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, nonetheless studied either the Torah portion of W(v)a’etḥanan-וָאֶתְחַנַּן , from the Jewish or Hebraic Calendar in the year 5774 year, this Sabbath day would probably be accounted for as the 12th-יב, & the 13th-יג, of the month of Ab(v)אָב‎.  (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon) From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known also as, Lemenhu-ለመንሁ.  This would calculate as the 3rd-፫, & the 4th- ፬, of the month of Nehâsé-.  The Ethiopic calendar is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet-ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic, which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church(the other language being Ge’ez-(ግእዝ).

We begin the second reading of the Book of Deuteronomy, with Moses pleading with God for a chance to see the Land of Promise.  For his disobedience to God at the Rock and Waters of Meribah, where Moses struck the rock instead of sanctifying his name (name of YHWH) in the sight of the children of Israel; God told Moses, he would not enter into the Promised Land; but he would be gathered to his people along with the generation of the wandering in the wilderness.  (Wa’etḥanan-“& I Pleaded“)

Moses knowing that though God favored him in grace, he was still displeased with the Striking of the Rock at the Waters of Meribah.  For his disobedience and the disobedience of the children of Israel that came out of Egypt, during the “Exodus,” he remembers that God said that he, along with that generation would not enter into the Promised Land.

God, instead allows Moses to go up atop Pisgah, & view the land, but God also instructs Moses to encourage Joshua, because he shall lead the children of Israel in to the land.

Moses was also instructed by God to stress the emphasis on keeping God’s laws, statutes, commandments, & judgments that they were taught.  The children of Israel were to hearken to those laws & teach them to their children, also to the following generations.  The children of Israel were to never turn to worship, or the works of the hands(or idols).

The children of Israel were instructed to heed of the covenant with God, which they received at Mount Sinai.  Failure to do so would result in the punishments or judgments, for disobedience. (ie; the scattering of the people among many other nations, and serving idol gods, etc.{Duet. 4: 27 & 28})

Moses, then set up the Cities of Refuge, which God had command bet put in place.  So, Moses severed three cities: Bezer, in the wilderness, Ramoth, in Gilead, & Golan, in Bashan.

& Moses also reminded the children of Israel of the covenant, which God made with them, while they were at the mountain of Sinai.  Whereas, the Decalogue was iterated to them as apart of the laws, statutes, commandments and judgments, they were to keep & teach to the following generations.

All the laws, statutes, commandments and judgments of God, were the children of Israel to learn, & teach to their children.  Even the Word of Witness(or the Shem’a), they were to hear, observe & do; that it would be well with the, and that they would increase in the Land of Promise.

& with the Word of Witness, the children of Israel were given, they were also instructed to love God with all their heart, soul, & strength(might). [Christ says; heart, soul, mind & strength (Mk. 12: 30)]  & they were to love their neighbors, as themselves, having these words not only come from their mouths, but be in their hearts.

When the children of Israel were to come into the land, keeping all of the laws, statutes, commandments, & judgments of God; they were to drive out nations like; the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, & the Jebusites from among them.  The children of Israel were to have dealings with them, as well.
