I welcome you all to one of many of the interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee).

Please, excuse me for not covering what is known as the parsha or Torah study portions that preceeded this thirteenth edition? But. I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with an open mind and heart, you will receive more than what you might have asked for in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) into the study of the Scriptures.

Now, with that said, let us go right into this…

So,with this Hebrew Shabbot(or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read, & thoroughly discern, nonetheless studied either the Torah portion BeshalaKH’ – בְּשַׁלַּח , from a Jewish/Hebrew mode of study for those out in the diaspora, living outside of Jerusalem or Israel. Others who engage this type of study more than likely read the portion of Yitro. From the Jewish or Hebraic Calendar in the 5773 this Sabbath day would probably fall on the 7th & 8th day of the month Shevat-שְׁבָט. (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known as Minim Q’rb BeehOn-ምንም ቅርብ ቢሆን; on the 24th & 25th of ወርኀ(month)-ጥር(T’r). On the Ethiopic calendar, which is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) this Sabbath (or Senbet-ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church(the other language being Ge’ez-ግእዝ)

Readings:

Exodus 13:17- 17:16

Judges 4:4- 5:31

John 6:15-71

Now, for in summation of the study we have in front of us; In this portion of the study of the Scriptures, the children of Israel are finally release from the hard bondage of Egypt(with the Pharoah “or governing house”) that knew not of Joseph. Moses and his brother Aaron have spoken the words of the God of Israel to the king of Egypt and the plagues have shown the wonders that have come to pass by the mighty hand of God.

The Children of Israel have taken all of their possessions along with spoils of Egypt, which they could gather by blessing to carry along on their journey.  Upon the Israelites(Hebrew children’s) journey, Moses fulfills Joseph’s wishes of taking his bones out of Egypt & on the journey of the Hebrews back to their Promised Land, to be buried with his ancestors.  {Ex. 13:19}

[Exodus 13:19_ And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him: for he had straitly swron the children of Israel that, saying God shall surely visit you; and ye shall carry up my bones hence with you.]
Moses [ ሙሴ ] ( מושה )

Its been said that in some circles of Ras Tafari, the Legend of Reggae music, Bob Marley, has been compared to Biblical Joseph: hmmmm,…???

Joseph-coat of many colors

Both also, had their last wishes for their remains to be returned to land where they would rest with their ancestors. [Joseph- Israel], [Bob-Ethiopia]

LOVE & HONOR, JAH(God) GUIDE RITA MARLEY ALONG WITH THE SEEDS OF THE GREAT LEGEND OF REGGAE MUSIC & RAS TAFARI TUFF GONG!!!

The children of Israel began their “Exodus”(-exit, going out) from Egypt & were lead by God, even in their ignorance of omni-prescence that was with them.

And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness. And the LORD went before them by dayin a pillar of a cloud, to lead them by the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day & night: He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people. {Ex. 13: 20-22}

PILLAR OF FIRE: BY NIGHT, TO GIVE LIGHT
Israel’s [possible] track out of Egypt

In discontent, and the words of some of the attendants in the Egyptian court, Pharaoh’s heart was hardened [by God], so Pharaoh summoned for 600 of his first choice of chariots, along with all the chariots of Egypt, with the captains of them & was in “hot-pursuit” of returning the children of Israel back to Egypt(& back to servitude). {Ex. 14: 3-12}

Fearful of the pursuit of the chariots of Egypt, the children of Israel, cried out to God, & turn to Moses, in disbelief of the happenings in front of them. Moses, then commands them to fear not, for the God of Israel will do battle for them,…they are commanded by God, through Moses, to go: FORWARD!

Moses is then commanded by God to stretch forth his rod & God through Moses splits the Sea of Reeds(Red Sea) and the children of Israel travel through on dry land. Whereas, the hardening of Pharaoh’s heart drove him to pursue the Israelites/Hebrews into the sea; they were swallowed up by it. & the children of Israel had the words of Moses fulfilled right before their eyes; God would do battle for them, if they stayed in the way of his light, the Egyptians which they saw, they would never see again, & they would know the YHWH EloHIM is GOD {Ex. 14: 13-31}

Moses, then sang, & the children of Israel, did sing…

{Ex. 15}

Song Of The Sea/Song of Moses: Exodus 15: 1-21

Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord, saying,

“I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously;
the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.
 The Lord is my strength and my song,
and he has become my salvation;
this is my God, and I will praise him,
my father’s God, and I will exalt him.
 The Lord is a man of war;
the Lord is his name.

“Pharaoh’s chariots and his host he cast into the sea,
and his chosen officers were sunk in the Red Sea.
 The floods covered them;
they went down into the depths like a stone.
 Your right hand, O Lord, glorious in power,
your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy.
 In the greatness of your majesty you overthrow your adversaries;
you send out your fury; it consumes them like stubble.
 At the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up;
the floods stood up in a heap;
the deeps congealed in the heart of the sea.
 The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake,
I will divide the spoil, my desire shall have its fill of them.
I will draw my sword; my hand shall destroy them.’
 You blew with your wind; the sea covered them;
they sank like lead in the mighty waters.

 “Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods?
Who is like you, majestic in holiness,
awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?
 You stretched out your right hand;
the earth swallowed them.

 “You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed;
you have guided them by your strength to your holy abode.
 The peoples have heard; they tremble;
pangs have seized the inhabitants of Philistia.
 Now are the chiefs of Edom dismayed;
trembling seizes the leaders of Moab;
all the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away.
 Terror and dread fall upon them;
because of the greatness of your arm, they are still as a stone,
till your people, O Lord, pass by,
till the people pass by whom you have purchased.
 You will bring them in and plant them on your own mountain,
the place, O Lord, which you have made for your abode,
the sanctuary, O Lord, which your hands have established.
 The Lord will reign forever and ever.”

For when the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went into the sea, the Lord brought back the waters of the sea upon them, but the people of Israel walked on dry ground in the midst of the sea. 20 Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and dancing. 21 And Miriam sang to them:

Song of the Sea- שירת הים (Shirat H’yam)

HOW QUICKLY DO, ONES-N-ONES, FORGET THOUGH…?

In the wilderness of Shur, the children of Israel begin to lose faith, & murmur against Moses, because of thirst. {Ex. 15:  22-27}

& then they murmur again, against Moses & Aaron, because of their hunger, next…Moses explains that God hears their murmuring & will provide for them, in exchange that they keep all his commandments & statutes {Ex. 16:}

The Israelites are then, faced with an enemy to them: Amalek. Joshua, the son of Nun( Hoshea/Yeshua ben Nun) is called by Moses to go and chose men of the camps to fight Amalek, while Moses will stand atop of a hill with the rod God, in hand. During the battle, it was apparent that whenever Moses raised his arms with the rod, Israel prevailed, but when his arms grew tired Israel loss ground, so Aaron & Hur, placed stones under Moses’ hands to keep them upright until Israel had emerged as victor. Moses is then told by God, to write this victory as a memorial in a book, because Amalek(the Amalikites) will be an enemy to God from generation-to-generation. God said that he would utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.

Now, with that said, let us go right into this…

So,with this Hebrew Shabbot(or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read, & thoroughly discern, nonetheless studied either the Torah portion Bo- בֹּא  “go” from a Jewish/Hebrew mode of study for those out in the diaspora, living outside of Jerusalem or Israel. Others who engage this type of study more than likely read the portion of Beshallach. From the Jewish or Hebraic Calendar in the 5773 this Sabbath day would probably fall on the 14th & 15th day of the month of Shevat-שְׁבָט. (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known as G’ba-ግባ.

On the Ethiopic calendar, which is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) this Sabbath (or Senbet-ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church(the other language being Ge’ez-ግእዝ

Readings:

Exodus 10:1- 13:16

Jeremiah 46:13 -48:28

Luke 22:7-30

I Corinthians 11:20-34

Now, for in summation of the study we have in front of us; the last three plagues are brought upon Egypt. The Hebrew Israelites are instructed by God to compose their calendar(or keep time) by the phases of the moon, which leads to the creation of the lunar Hebrew calendar. During the plague, a memorial for the Hebrews to keep yearly, is instituted. This memorial would become a statute of those who practice the Hebrew faith as the keep of the Sabbath, but in an annual sense.

Too Dread or Not Dread?….

[ REGENERATING JAH’S PEOPLE & HIS INHERITANCE ]

Dreadlocks; One of the outward signs of the Ras Tafarian, adopted by many other grassroots movements; African in its genuine originality. Ras Tafarians drew from Biblical figures like Samson, as well as, African Liberation movements from the colonial era; like the “Mau Mau Rebellion” in Kenya of the Kikuyu. Many other verses from Scripture along with the story of Samson, the Danite, support the wearing of “locks” & now Ras Tafarians solely have pushed the ticket in making dreadlocks one of the most, if not the most, rebellious & attention-attractive attributes of hair styles. (especially in this day in age) There takes a certain amount of intelligence to properly maintain such a hairstyle & certainly a much deeper knowledge or even adoration to respect. But, what about the children of Ras Tafarians & even others who have or want the joy of sporting locked-hair; should they or shouldn’t they….??? We know that children are extremely impressionable. What message are we sending them by sporting/wearing locks? Also, for others of course, there aren’t many who could say it better:

“Every man got the right to decide his own destiny…”

TO DREAD OR NOT TO DREAD?
(…train up a child…)
(…it takes a village to raise a child/children…)

Its certain that Ras Tafari does not have a sole ownership or hold on the wearing of dreadlocks, for they were here long before the revelation of Ras Tafari, but its for certain that locks are African in origin & can be symbolized through a myriad of perspectives. Many people shunned the likes of having naturally locked hair(& some still do…) mainly because, outside of the origin of the birth of this way of wearing hair was foreign to those who rejected it. In some cases, it rejection was because of the symbol it conveyed. For the Mau Mau Revoltfor example, it was a symbol of revolt, being rebel & the early Ras Tafarian principles laid hold to that being that it brought about the themes that rang out in the ideology of their insight. But probably the most significant, of congruency of the Ras Tafarians to their ‘distant relatives’ across the Atlantic was that in the Judeo-Christian kingdom they sighted as the heritage of their forgotten past had similar attributes in some of the very people, which they made many connections to. The irony in this self-discovery…the Ras Tafarians mirrored & projected an image that was nearly point-by-point exact without recent history or the widespread knowledge of their own history.  With just oral traditions, stories, vivid thoughts, & of course, one of the most read books in the known history of the world The BIBLE, Ras Tafarians put forth an ambiance that could surely walk side-by-side with only the Bahitawi of Ethiopia.

Now, it could just be me but you check it out & be the judge! Sometime few words are needed when a situation is as clear as it can get.

As for the origin of dreadlocks, I most certainly wish I could give you an accurate dating or even educated guess to its beginnings. The best I, as well as the best known & unknown scholars could present to you is the evidence of its origin among peoples who used this styling of hair, upon eons of centuries

Amenemhet III,was the sixth Pharoah of Egypt's; 12th dynasty, who's reign was from approx. 1860-1814 BC. Scultures of Amenemhet's likeness have been excavated & have shown Amenemhet III' without any of the various Egyptian crowns with what seems to clearly be dreadlocks.

BOOK OF JUDGES 13:2-5:

And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare not. And the angel of the Lord appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.

NUMBERS 6

[Vow of a Nazarite]

And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When either man or woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the Lord:

He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.  All the days of his separation shall he eat nothing that is made of the vine tree, from the kernels even to the husk.

All the days of the vow of his separation there shall no razor come upon his head: until the days be fulfilled, in the which he separateth himself unto the Lord, he shall be holy, and shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow.

All the days that he separateth himself unto the Lord he shall come at no dead body.

He shall not make himself unclean for his father, or for his mother, for his brother, or for his sister, when they die: because the consecration of his God is upon his head.

All the days of his separation he is holy unto the Lord.

And if any man die very suddenly by him, and he hath defiled the head of his consecration; then he shall shave his head in the day of his cleansing, on the seventh day shall he shave it.

And on the eighth day he shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons, to the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation:

And the priest shall offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, and make an atonement for him, for that he sinned by the dead, and shall hallow his head that same day.

And he shall consecrate unto the Lord the days of his separation, and shall bring a lamb of the first year for a trespass offering: but the days that were before shall be lost, because his separation was defiled.

And this is the law of the Nazarite, when the days of his separation are fulfilled: he shall be brought unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation:

And he shall offer his offering unto the Lord, one he lamb of the first year without blemish for a burnt offering, and one ewe lamb of the first year without blemish for a sin offering, and one ram without blemish for peace offerings,

And a basket of unleavened bread, cakes of fine flour mingled with oil, and wafers of unleavened bread anointed with oil, and their meat offering, and their drink offerings.

And the priest shall bring them before the Lord, and shall offer his sin offering, and his burnt offering:

And he shall offer the ram for a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the Lord, with the basket of unleavened bread: the priest shall offer also his meat offering, and his drink offering.

And the Nazarite shall shave the head of his separation at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and shall take the hair of the head of his separation, and put it in the fire which is under the sacrifice of the peace offerings.

And the priest shall take the sodden shoulder of the ram, and one unleavened cake out of the basket, and one unleavened wafer, and shall put them upon the hands of the Nazarite, after the hair of his separation is shaven:

And the priest shall wave them for a wave offering before the Lord: this is holy for the priest, with the wave breast and heave shoulder: and after that the Nazarite may drink wine.

This is the law of the Nazarite who hath vowed, and of his offering unto the Lord for his separation, beside that that his hand shall get: according to the vow which he vowed, so he must do after the law of his separation.

And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them,

The Lord bless thee, and keep thee:

The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:

The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel, and I will bless them.

Whom shall I dread?…

I welcome you all to one of many of the interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee).

Please, excuse me for not covering what is known as the parsha or Torah study portions that preceeded this thirteenth edition? But. I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with an open mind and heart, you will receive more than what you might have asked for in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) into the study of the Scriptures.

Now, with that said, let us go right into this…

So,with this Hebrew Shabbot(or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read, & thoroughly discern, nonetheless studied either the Torah portion Va’era-וָאֵרָא , from a Jewish/Hebrew mode of study for those out in the diaspora, living outside of Jerusalem or Israel. Others who engage this type of study more than likely read the portion of Bo. From the Jewish or Hebraic Calendar in the 5773 this Sabbath day would probably fall on the 7th & 8th day of the month Shevat-שְׁבָט. (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)

From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known as TegeleT’hu- ተገለጥሁ.

Readings:

Exodus 6:2- 9:35= Torah/Orit(Ethiopic)

Ezekiel 28:25- 29:21= Haftarah-Neb(v)ïm/Näbīyát(Ethiopic)

Romans 9:14-23=Brit CHadasha/Addis K’dan(Ethiopic)

Now, for in summation of the study we have in front of us; Moses is being spoken to from the burning bush that is of the God of the Hebrews (YHWH Elohim) & is commissioned to go to Pharaoh with his brother Aaron to speak the words of God to Pharaoh to set the captives free, which are of Israel in Egypt. Moses questions his role in this command by God to be the Deliverer of the Hebrew people out of Egypt’s slavery, but of course Moses is convinced for a surety by the great power of the God of his patriarchs: Abraham, Isaac, & Jacob.

The lineage that should come up out of Egypt is aligned in the study of the Scriptures for this parsha. The God of the Hebrews shows his power to the whole of Egypt through ten devastating Plagues.(In this study, we’ll first go through seven) In which, Moses and Aaron bring forth by the command of God, with the smiting of the ‘oppresive’ Egyptians with the wonders/miracles of YHWH-the God of the Hebrews.

Here, I will take the time to bring about the studies of Torah or the Tanakh, which have become what is known as the Holy Bible of today; from a Ras Tafarian perspective. Given many have sought to understand what Ras Tafarians actually think & see in their own interpretation of the Scriptures. I must disclaim that this blog is of my own understanding of the Scriptures, which I received from many sources. Though others may see parallels to other interpretations when compared to this one I will present for people to see; PLEASE TAKE THIS TESTIMONY AS MY OWN, FROM MY OWN UNDERSTANDING. I’am no priest, rabbi, or ordained minister by the standards of what people know as of, in today’s society. I’am simply a humble individual who has received what has been given to share one’s own revelation with others who may or may not seek to do the same; or even just want to pick a Ras Tafarian’s brain on certain topics which they have scattered thoughts about. ( please, keep an open mind, share your thoughts, questions, and so forth & I will sincerely try my best to answer them with the most accuracy I’am able to bring forth.)
