The Hebraic Calendar looks strikingly parallel to the Babylonian Calendar, and there is clear influence from the time of the “Babylonian Captivity.”  In its earliest stage, the Hebrew months were numbered, names did not exist in the sense of a Hebraic phrase.  The supposed Hebrew names eventually adopted were versions of the Babylonian names for its calendar.  As in the Babylonian tendencies,  a month like “Nisan” was originally the first month of the year. Tishri became the first month along with the western part of the Seleucid empire, and it remains so today.

Despite this obvious Babylonian influence, Hebraic or more specifically, Israelite peoples did not adopt the regular nineteen (19)-year cycle for inserting intercalary months, nor did they use Babylonian mathematical calculation(s) of eahc and every new moon’s cyclical period.   The decision to insert an extra month was made by the Sanhedrin in Jerusalem on rather vague criteria such as the appearance of new plants. {ex. the celebration Tu B’Shib(v)at – ט״ו בשבט or the used a smaller acronym for the “the New Year of Trees.”}, or by literal translation; the fifteenth (15)th of the month of Shebat/Shivat.  Because they measured neither the equinox nor helical/ solar risings, the old Hebrew calendar cannot be reconstructed by a mathematical formula.

Another difference between the Hebraic and the Babylonian Calendars (respectively,) are the treatment of the seven (7-day) cycle.  Its been presented that the ancient Babylonians had what could’ve clearly been specualted to precede the Hebraic/Jewish seven (7)-day cycle, but the days around the new moon when it was invisible were NOT included.  In the Hebraic sense of things, the seven (7)-day interval, between Sabbaths runs independently of the months & years.  There are no “epagomenal,” interval/ interregnum, or intercalary days.  The days are numbered one (1)-to-seven (7).  Only on the Sabbath, or hebraically speaking, …. “the seventh day,” is named, although day six (6) is sometimes called Ereb(v) Shabbat = ערב שבת; or loosely translate to, “the day preceding the Sabbath.”

Ethiopian Calendar 2013 – Rastafari Groundation Compilation 2020-2021

The Ethiopian calendar comprises of thirteen (13) months.  Twelve (12) months of thirty (30) days each, also consisting of one (1) month of five (5) days.  This final month includes a day more to stay six (6) each fourth (4th) year.  Thus, any leap or intercalary year, clarifying why an Ethiopian Unused Year day substitutes between two (2) days within the Gregorian calendar, this appearing inconsistency is but a result of interpretation.  The title of the Ethiopian year begins with the month is Meskerem, which is situated a week or so into the what is known as the seventh (7th) month of the Gregorian calendar;  while that of the final month shows up in transliteration as Pagumen/ Págūmæ [Pàgʷümé] – ጳጒሜንጳጉሜ.

Some historical interpreters and analysts would say this intercalary calculations is unique to Ethiopia & Eritrea, or that specific area of the Horn of Africa but, upon further research and verification its has been presented that the

✡ Rosh HaShanah: Ras Tafari ✤ (Yamim Nora’im – ימים נוראים) ✡

Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellassie I & Itege Menen Asfaw,

Welcome, once again, to another posting here at Ras Tafari Renaissance!  On this post, the subject which we intend to cover is ushering in Hebrew Observances, that should be relevant and incorporated into the Ras Tafari consciousness.

Since the inception of Ras Tafari it has been clear that the Ras Tafarians proclaim ancestral heritage with Hebraic peoples of antiquity.  Sharing ancestry with the Imperial House of David’s, ie. the Solomonic Dynasty and Hebraic (Semitic peoples; which can be verified genetically within the confines of the modern DNA/RNA testing categorizations of the mitachondrial L2 Haplogroup & SubHaplogroup variations), in Ethiopia; by way of King Solomon & the Queen of Sheba.  With that said, seeing how Ethiopian-Christianity has become the ONLY Christian church upholding its Hebraic traditions intact, while Ethiopian Judaism, has transversed and evolved back in its  spiritual North, (ie. the State of Israel) it should hold a critical place among the Ras Tafari faithful and those alike minds’ to adhere to original Christian and Hebraic practices.

So, in this post we here at Ras Tafari Renaissance would like to put forward, that all that continue to, and are maybe, just checking out this site for the first time on notice.  In the continuance of bringing you all, Ras Tafari interpretations of the Scriptures from a Bible-based foundation, we’ll also bring about the basics of over-standing Hebraic Observances/Holidays/Holy Days, and build on that foundation.

Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellassie I & Itege Menen Asfaw,

I welcome you all to a new regeneration of cycle Torah readings!  This is another one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee).

I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with a willing mind and heart (ready to learn), you will receive more than what you might have asked for, in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to seek insight) into the study of the Scriptures.  So, with this Hebrew Shabbot (or Shabbat) we move into the opening of the Torah portion with Nitẓab(v)ïm – נִצָּבִים, on the 26th – כו, & the 27th – כז, of the month of Elul – אֱלוּל‎, in the year of 5781. (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)  From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation, where the current year is 2013/7513; these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known, also as, Q’ōmachi’ḥʷal – ቆማችኋል.  This would calculate as the 28th – ፳፰, & the 29th – ፳፱, of the month of Mäskäräm- መስከረም.  The Ethiopic calendar is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet – ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic, which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez – (ግእዝ).

Readings:

Deuteronomy 29:10 – 30:20

Isaiah 61:10 – 63:9

Romans 10: 1-12

In this portion of the Scripture studies’, Moses tells the people that adherence and obedience to the laws, which they were given/taught would allow them to prolong their days in the land, & make them fruitful in abundance; in contrast, turning away would lead them down the road to destruction.  Only turning to the ways which the children of Israel were taught by Moses in the way of God, would lead them again into grace.  This would be the parameters for a covenant which God would make with the children of Israel.

(see Scofield Study Bible: the Palestinian Covenant; pg 250; ref. – Gen. chpt. 15: 18, Numb. chpt. 25: 1-12)

Because of their waywardness(the Israelites); God spoke to Moses, telling him to teach the Israelites that the covenant would not only pertain to them alone, though Israel would be a people to God(himself).  The covenant would also include those that would stand with Israel, once upon hearing the words of the book of the Law.  Those who would not hearken to the word, of course, would be a testament to the judgment of disobedience.

Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellassie I & Itege Menen Asfaw,

I welcome you all to yet another posting here at Ras Tafari Renaissance!  This is another one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee).

As we bring 2021’s month of August to a close, and quickly approach September along with this site’s renewal focal point we reflect on a couple of little known giants of their respective fields of expertise. Before that we encourage our site’s visitors to again put more emphasis on education, in ALL things! Seeing as the last couple of years have been quite the unexpected, to say the least.

(as pertaining to current outbreak situation; and worldwide economic conundrum)

We remind ones that this particular time of year is not only significant to us here at Ras Tafari Renaissance Revelations but also, the greater society. Especially, those with stronger focuses on business, finance, economics, etc. We approach a spiritually important point in a cyclical pattern of practice and discipline seen in the Hebraic and much older eastern Orthodox-Christian communities.

( – to some degree many can account this to Islamic, and also more archaic societal orders and tribal lineages and groups. )

In August 2021, world-renowned and vastly known historian/anthropologist Runoko Rashidi (L) passed on the second [2], of the month while continuing his travels, and research in Egypt, among other places. Rashidi clearly has been documented as the author of numerous literary works concerning subject matters on anthropology, history, & world civilizations.

Reggae pioneer, and iconic sound engineer/music producer Rainford Hugh “Lee Scratch” Perry (R), was reported to have passed away on the twenty-ninth [29], of the month. Perry, not only has been accredited with being the first known to create the sounds that produced and became used as Reggae and Dub Step, but is also rumored and many attest to him being the first producer of ones such as: …”Bob” Marley, Peter Tosh, & Bunny Wailer, before their formation with into the “Wailers.” Perry is also known for being quite an influential individual throughout the Jamaican and the Ras Tafari, communities.

“There is an abundance of serious scholars in the African American canon, but few as intrepid, wide-ranging, and resourceful as Runoko Rashidi. When you have interviewed John G. Jackson, Ivan Van Sertima, and challenged the conclusions of Cheikh Anta Diop as Rashidi did, then your credentials are unquestionable. An obituary states that Rashidi passed on August 2, but his prodigious research, his profound and endless curiosity on the global African presence is forever with us.

In times such as these, where so much uncertainty arises and, clouds the otherwise, straight-forward judgment and “business-as-usual,” attitudes of many people in our world today we find ourselves instead, having notions of reminiscing of periods when the aforementioned was the order of the day. But, as the world continues to change and spin, we’ve been thrusted to into an adjustment period that has been quietly in the works, for quite some time. As the ‘Fiscal year,’ or the one-year term (usually twelve month term especially, in the United States of America, and corresponds to the rest of the Western Hemisphere or known “western world” nations.) for government and business financial reporting, this time period ironically correlates to the Ethiopic & Hebraic times of renewal. This realization also speaks to the earlier asserted point of an adjustment period in which many scholastics would attests to the manner and forms in which we account to the calculations of counting time, days, months, and years is different or at the least altered from the way we account for these calculations today.

Now, with this all in mind come to our second highlighted individual for his prominent influence among Ras Tafari and moreso, the Reggae and greater musical community. Rainford Hugh “Lee Scratch” Perry

The Jamaican Observer reports that Perry died Sunday at the Noel Holmes Hospital in western Jamaica. Cause of death was unknown at press time. Andrew Holness, the Prime Minister of Jamaicatweeted Sunday, “My deep condolences to the family, friends, and fans of legendary record producer and singer, Rainford Hugh Perry, O.D.(Order of Distinction; a Jamaican national honors system honorific title of achievement), affectionately known as ‘Lee Scratch’ Perry. He has worked with and produced for various artistes, including Bob Marley & the Wailers, the Congos, Adrian Sherwood, the Beastie Boys, and many others. Undoubtedly, Lee “Scratch” Perry will always be remembered for his sterling contribution to the music fraternity. May his soul Rest In Peace.”

These two individuals passing at this time pendant time in season gives quite the perspective for those who’re more in tune, with the spiritual and historical aspects of similar topics from which we discuss here often. Even with all of the commotion of the current pandemic, though it seems to be sliding to the downtrend slightly, we reflect on the coming years in hopes that much understanding and careful tactics of restructuring ones lives and environments, for the better, becomes the new normal.

Since the inception of Ras Tafari it has been clear that the Ras Tafarians proclaim ancestral heritage with Hebraic peoples of antiquity.  Sharing ancestry with the Imperial House of David’sSolomonic Dynasty, in Ethiopia; by way of King Solomon & the Queen of Sheba.  With that said, seeing how Ethiopia has become the ONLY Christian church upholding its Hebraic traditions intact, it should hold a critical place in the Ras Tafari faithful and those alike’s minds to adhere to original Christian and Hebraic practices.

So, with this Hebrew Shabbot (or Shabbat) we move into the opening of the Torah portion with Ki-Tá(b)vō – כִּי-תָבוֹא, on the 19th – יט, & the 20th – כ, of the month of Elul – אֱלוּל‎, in the year of 5781. (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)  From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation, where the current year is 2013/7513; these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known, also as, BeGäbáh’m Gïzæy – በገባህም ጊዜ.  This would calculate as the 21st – ፳፩, & the 22nd – ፳፪, of the month of Nähâsæy – ነሐሴ.  The Ethiopic calendar is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet – ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic, which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church(the other language being Ge’ez-(ግእዝ).

Readings:

Deuteronomy 26:1 – 29:8

Isaiah 60: 1-20

Ephesians 1: 3-6

Revelation 21: 10-27

This study portion of the Scriptures, deals with the children of Israel, in what order they should follow upon entering into the Land, which God had promised their foreparents.

THIS SABBATH STUDY PORTION, LAYS OUT EXACTLY HOW THE HEBREW PEOPLE WOULD BE BLESSED; ALBEIT, THEY KEPT & TOOK HEED OF THE ALL THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD; OR CURSED, IF THEY WERE TO TURN AWAY FROM WHAT THEY WERE TAUGHT BY MOSES; BY WAY OF GOD’S WORD.

Blessings-Curses

So, the children of Israel were to present the firstfruits (or the first portions of their harvests) of the land to the priests, and the priests were to present these firstfruits upon the altar; giving thanks & praise to God, because while in bondage/servitude the children of Israel, sewed seeds but did not reap the benefits of their labor. (for they’d worked to satisfy the needs wants of others)  In the Land of Promise, the children of Israel were at the liberty to sew their seeds with gladness and joy, keeping to the ways they were taught out of the Law of Moses.

[Deut. 26: 1-11]

ki tabo-parsha (first fruits)

Tithing:  For the children of Israel, the third year, was when it would acceptable for them to give a tenth of all their harvests, appropriated to the: Levitical-Priesthood, the strangers/guests/foreigners (interpreted from the Ancient Languages of the Scriptures) which would be living among the children of Israel, along with the fatherless (or the orphaned), & the widowed.  This kind of tithing would be a testament to the children of Israel being the chosen, peculiar people (vrs.19) upon the face of the Earth, that within their gates which God had provided/promised to them, they would most certainly seek to feed, clothe & shelter.

[Deut. 26: 12-19]

ki tabo-parsha (tithes) Malachi

Moses, and the elders of the Twelve Tribes of Israel, then charged the Hebrew people to keep all of the commandments, laws and statutes which were set out for them; and upon crossing over the river Jordan into the Land of Promise, on Mount Ebal (ጌባል ተራራ/ הר עיבל‎), the children of Israel were to build an altar with whole stones to God – writing the Law (Torah) on these great stones.  This mountain was to be a mountain where peace offerings were to be made to God.

[Deut. 27: 1-8]

ki tab(v)o - parsha

Now, with this ordination, there then came a second mountain.  But, before that Moses & the Levites, spoke to the Hebrew people, explaining that upon these works, the children of Israel should take heed to themselves, for they were to become the people of God; pending, they would hearken to his laws.

ki tab(v)o - bible-archeology-altar-of-joshua-amphitheater-between-mt-gerizim-ebal

Moses then said, these (as far as the tribes) shall stand upon Mount Gerizim (ገሪዛን ተራራ/ הר גּרזים) to bless the people: Simeon, Levi , Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin:

(Deut. chpt. 27 : verse 12)

And these shall stand upon Mount Ebal to curse the people: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulon, Dan, and Naphtali.

(Deut. chpt. 27 : verse 13)

From there, the Levites, then laid out the a proclamation of the curses, for those who would turn away from the law.

(the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)  From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation, where the current year is 2013/7513; these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known (in the same sense) as BeWäṭáh Gïzéy – በወጣህ ጊዜ.  This would calculate as the 14th – ፲፬, & the 15th – ፲፭, of the month of Nähásæy – ነሐሴ.

In this parsha/kifil (study portion) of the Scriptures, we shall go through topics that cover, laws, statutes & commandments, mostly in the civil & domestic life of the children of Israel.  We’ll begin in the post-warfare ordinances, that deal with other governing principles, including inheritance, child rearing, humane civility, farming & host of other issues.  This portion of the Scriptures, set out supplementary laws that would aid the Hebrew people as they continued to draw near to God.

The children of Israel were presented with the orders of God, through Moses, to deal with domestic regulations in the ways that were suitable and pleasing to God.  The treatment of captives, especially of the women of other nations was one in question, in the ordinances of warfare.

[Deut. 21: 10-17]

ki tetzei - parsha [israelite army-Deut.21vrs1]

Also, in this category of issues, the children of Israel were to administer to the wayward son, in ways that would be beneficial to, not only be sustainable to one’s household, but to the entire nation’s, as well.

[Deut. 21: 18-23]

CHRIST's Parable of the Prodigal Son [Luke 15: 11-32]
CHRIST‘s Parable of the Prodigal Son [Luke 15: 11-32]

The children of Israel, were not to be a wayward people, speaking with “fork-tongues“, living in ungodly ways, but always making way to become righteous by words & deeds.  Thus, the Laws of Brotherhood, not only within the Hebrew community, but to other nations also; the same would be the norm for ANY Israelite.

[Deut. 22: 1-8]

ki tetzei - parsha [opening verse aliya]

When it came to Hebrew farming principles, from the basics to large-scale agriculture practices, the children of Israel were to adhere certain commandments all-in-the-same.  This takes in account, the treatment of the animals within their possession, also.

[Deut. 22: 9-12]

1)”…Speak to the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue:…”[Numb. 15: 38]; 2)…”thou shall make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy vesture, wherewith thou coverest thyself…” [Deut. 22: 12] {Tz’itz’iyot-צִיצִת or Gadil-גָּדִל}

2) “…thou shall make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy vesture, wherewith thou coverest thyself…”
[Deut. 22: 12]

In the upkeep of the laws, statutes, & commandments of God to the children of Israel; upon the sudden death of a Hebrew, who had a wife (but, was now a childless widowhad married, but bore no children), & was survived by a brother-in-law(her husband’s brother), the surviving brethren was obliged to uphold specific responsibilities in procuring the lineage of his deceased brother.  This law was one of intricacy, among others dealing with the “Innocent Wife”, being provided with protection within Israel.

In the arrangements for dealing with divers regulatory issues among the children of Israel, the Hebrews were to adhere to God’s principles in dealing with peoples of other nations, entreating their camp, holy places and such, but also, not succumbing to being a oppressors or whores & whoremongers, (ie. sexual offenders, rapists, etc.), or extortionists.

God also said to Israel, that he would raise up a Prophet from among them.  The words of his mouth would be of him, and they should take heed.  For, at the mountain of Horeb, they feared the power, the voice and great fire of God, so much that they asked to not see it again, lest they perish.

The only for the children of Israel to know if the Prophet was of God, would be for them to verify by a testing of his word.  The testing would come in a criteria that would fit, as follows: 1. his/her, spoken words of prophecy coming to pass(or fulfillment; actualization), 2. he/she, would come in the NAME of God, & 3. if the prophecies followed along the guidelines of the LAW (Torah).

I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with a willing mind and heart(ready to learn), you will receive more than what you might have asked for, in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to seek insight) into the study of the Scriptures.  So,with this Hebrew Shabbot (or Shabbat) we move into the opening of the Torah portion with Re’eh – רְאֵה, on the 28th – כח, & the 29thכט, of the month of Ab(v) – אָב, in the year of 5781. (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)  From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation, where the current year is 2013/7513; these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known, also as Inähō – እነሆ.  This would calculate as the 30th, of the month of Hämlæy – ሐምሌ, & the 1st – , of the month of Nähasæy – ነሐሴ.

Readings:

Deuteronomy 11:26- 16:17

Isaiah 54:11- 55:5

John 7: 37-52

In this study portion of the Scriptures, we’ve come Re’eh (רְאֵה), which in the Hebrew language means “to see.”  In the Amharic language, the word used as an equivalent for the name of this parsha is more properly…would be; Ra’iy – ራእይ.  Theses words in the ancient tongues divulge the meanings: “to see,” “have a vision,” “behold,” or “make sight of.”

wadjet & nekhbet (two eyes of Horus)

This portion of our reading, in the Book of Deuteronomy, begins on verse 26, where Moses is continuing to instruct the children of Israel, in the ways of God’s statutes, laws, and commandments; especially for the entry into the Land of Promise.  Causing these instructions to become known among all Israel, whereas it would be well with them.  God told Moses, to teach the children of Israel these lessons, for Moses explained that God had set a Blessing & a Curse before them.  Following the ways of God would render blessings upon them, and turning away would bring curse upon them.  The children of Israel, were clearly free to choose.

[Deut. 11: 26-32]

blessing and the curse

The conditions of the blessing in the land, for the children of Israel were also given by Moses, from God.  The children of Israel were to observe, and do the will of God for it would determine the prosperity of their dwelling in the land.  The laws, statutes, and commandments were laid out so the children of Israel, would teach them to their children for God’s laws and covenant with Israel would be an everlasting covenant; given they take heed of themselves.

[Deut. 12]

wolves-in-sheep-clothing(false prophets)

Now, knowing that they were given the chance to choose; the children of Israel, were to also recognize that it would be necessary to know wherein they were to discern between choices.  The children of Israel were warned to be wary of prophets or dreamers of dreams that would arise among them, and to take precaution that their signs and their wonders, would not lead them away from the ways of God’s commandments.

[Deut. 13]

shabuot-festival of weeks6

Then, the ordination for what would become known as Kashrut – כַּשְׁרוּת , or Kosher – כָּשֵׁר , among the Jewish people of today’s society.  But from its roots in the Hebrew language , it is the laws of God, to the Hebrew people, showing what would be “fit” for consumption; concerning food.

[Deut. 14]

pesach9

Now, in dealing with servants: those of the inheritance and those of foreign origin there was, of course, a protocol for the children of Israel, as well.  The Hebrew servant was to be absolved from his Hebrew creditor, in the “Sabbath year Shemittah” or the 7th year.  But, it would be up to the Hebrew creditor to absolve a debt from a foreigner or one not of the origin of the Hebrew people.  God sought that none should be poor among Israel, so in this act, the children of Israel would contribute to their own prosperity in another form.

[Deut. 15]

sukkot

“…for the LORD thy God blessed thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend to many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee…”[Deut. 15: v6]

The children of Israel received what is known now, as the significance of the Shalosh Regalim, or the three Feasts of YHWH.

Before going forward with this week’s parsha study, we take an in-depth look at the name of the portion, for this week: Ækeb (Ekev/ Eiqeb/ Eikev) – עֵקֶב= other various phonetic pronunciations).

Eikeb-parsha

The significance of this parsha’s name, should be a notated because the resemblance it has to Isaac’s son, Jacob, brother of Esau; in the Amharic & Hebrew languages.

eikeb - parsha [jacob-israel-yaiqob-ysrael]

Finding relations to the parsha for this week and the name, Jacob, will be very telling; in the order of over-standing(“understanding”) where this portion of the Scriptures intends to enlighten the mind.

eikeb-parsha [1stverse]

After Moses receives the instructions from God to teach the children of Israel, he then instructs them, insuring that they know they should observe and do them, for things to go well & in their favor. (pertaining to God)  God, in turn, will not only bring them into the land but, will bless them abundantly.

[Deut. 7: 12-26]

“…A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey;…” [Deut. 8:8]
“…A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey;…” [Deut. 8:8]

Warnings and exhortations were given to the children of Israel, in the sense of them taking advantage of pursuing the inheritance, that was a covenant between God, Abraham, Isaac, & Jacob.

[Deut. 8: 1-20]

Crossing Jordan [Deut. 9:1]
Crossing Jordan [Deut. 9:1]

Israel, after receiving instruction was to then, go over the river Jordan to possess the land, & drive out those who would not dwell peaceably with them.  For God strove against the wickedness of other nations.

[Deut. 9: 1-5]

decalogue-10 commandments-tablets-old hebrew

But even with all of this brewing in good favor for the children of Israel, they stray from the path which should have led straightway to the fullness of JAH(God)’s grace and blessing .  But, because Israel is & always has been a “stiffnecked people,” Moses has to plead a case to God for the children of Israel.  God had sought to utterly destroy the children of Israel for their constant disobedience.  Moses, intercedes for Israel for they had brought nearly about God’s wrath upon them.  Recalling the time at the mount of Horeb, Israel making a molten image to worship, and provoked God to anger so much so, that God prepared obliterate them & make a nation out of Moses [& Ts’pporah].

(new nation: hence, the Ethio-Hebrews, that would later come with Sheba & Solomon [not to neglect the earlier connection between Abraham & Keturah), in spite of the various surrounding happenings)  For Moses’ sake, God’s wrath was turned away from Israel.

[Deut. 9: 6-29]

After this God told Moses, to hew two stone tablets, for the words which were on the set before them, Moses broke for he waxed hot in anger towards Israel for their stubbornness and disobedience to God ‘s laws.  Along with these, was a wooden ark made to be put into the Ark of the Covenant.  So the words of the Sinaitic Covenant were restored.

So,with this Hebrew Shabbot (or Shabbat) we move into the opening of the Torah portion with W(v)a’etcḥanan – וָאֶתְחַנַּןon the 14thיד, & on the 15thטו, of the month of Ab(v) – אָב, in the year of 5781. (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)  From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation, where the current year is 2013/7513; these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known (in the same sense) as Lämänhu – ለመንሁ, on the 16th – ፲፮, & on the 17th – ፲፯, of Hämlæy – ሐምሌ.  The Ethiopic calendar, which is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet – ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez – ግእዝ).

shabbat nachamu - parsha weatchanan(kifle lemenhu)

Readings:

Deuteronomy 3:23- 7:11

Isaiah 40: 1-26

Matthew 23: 31-39

Mark 12: 28-34

w(v)aetchanan - parsha2

We begin the second reading of the Book of Deuteronomy, with Moses pleading with God for a chance to see the Land of Promise.  For his disobedience to God at the Rock and Waters of Meribah, where Moses struck the rock instead of sanctifying his name (name of YHWH) in the sight of the children of Israel; God told Moses, he would not enter into the Promised Land; but he would be gathered to his people along with the generation of the wandering in the wilderness.  (Wa’etcḥanan-“& I Pleaded“)

"& I pleaded/besought" _ referenced from [Deut. 3:23]
“& I pleaded/besought” _ referenced from [Deut. 3:23]

Moses knowing that though God favored him in grace, he was still displeased with the Striking of the Rock at the Waters of Meribah.  For his disobedience and the disobedience of the children of Israel that came out of Egypt, during the “Exodus,” he remembers that God said that he, along with that generation would not enter into the Promised Land.

[Deut. 3: 23-27 ]

w(vaerchanan - parsha4

God, instead allows Moses to go up atop Pisgah, & view the land, but God also instructs Moses to encourage Joshua, because he shall lead the children of Israel in to the land.

[Deut. 3: 28 & 29]

Moses was also instructed by God to stress the emphasis on keeping God’s laws, statutes, commandments, & judgments that they were taught.  The children of Israel were to hearken to those laws & teach them to their children, also to the following generations.  The children of Israel were to never turn to worship, or the works of the hands(or idols).

[Deut. 4: 1-22]

The children of Israel were instructed to heed of the covenant with God, which they received at Mount Sinai.  Failure to do so would result in the punishments or judgments, for disobedience. (ie; the scattering of the people among many other nations, and serving idol gods, etc.{Duet. 4: 27 & 28})

[Deut. 4: 23-40]

Deut. 4: 26-31 (...the LORD will scatter you among the nations...)

Moses, then set up the Cities of Refuge, which God had command bet put in place.  So, Moses severed three cities: Bezer, in the wilderness, Ramoth, in Gilead, & Golan, in Bashan.

[Deut. 4: 41-49]

w(v)aetchanan - parsha (cities of refuge to Reuben-Gad-Menasseh)deut.4.vrs41-49

& Moses also reminded the children of Israel, of the covenant, which God made with them, while they were at the mountain of Sinai.  Whereas, the Decalogue was iterated to them as apart of the laws, statutes, commandments and judgments, they were to keep & teach to the following generations.

[Deut. 5]

All the laws, statutes, commandments and judgments of God, were the children of Israel to learn, & teach to their children.  Even the Word of Witness(or the Shem’a), they were to hear, observe & do; that it would be well with the, and that they would increase in the Land of Promise.

[Deut. 6]

{THE WORD OF WITNESS/the SHEM’A}

waetchanan - parsha [word-of-witness_Amharic]w2 revised2014

& with the Word of Witness, the children of Israel were given, they were also instructed to love God with all their heart, soul, & strength(might).

[Christ said; heart, soul, mind & strength (Mk. 12: 30)]

& they were to love their neighbors, as themselves, having these words not only come from their mouths, but be in their hearts.

(see. Apostles ask CHRIST of the 1st Commandment of all[vr.28], & CHRIST tells the first & second Greatest Commandments.[vrs.29-31]  Mk. 12: 28-34/Brit Ch’adashah-Haddis Kidan)

[Deut. 6: 1-6]

Deuteronomy 6: 7 & 8

When the children of Israel were to come into the land, keeping all of the laws, statutes, commandments, & judgments of God; they were to drive out nations like; the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, & the Jebusites from among them.  The children of Israel were to have dealings with them, as well.

[Deut. 7: 1-11]
