I welcome you all to yet another posting in one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee).

This is Lidj Yefdi, here at Ras Tafari Renaissance Revelations, hoping all of you are in good health: mind, body & spirit; & if you just happen to be on the downside of your particular scenario, I, personally hope, wish & pray that you be given, as well as, you receive, the strength which is needed to overcome the specific situation.

As we have completed a cycle of Torah reading/studies, we as Hebrew people, as well as they who choose to assemble again, to commemorate the Hebraic memorial of Sukkot.  As Succoth, is an “Ingathering” for faithful Hebrews, this assembly on the eighth day of a seven day festival renders a Sabbath of completion of Torah readings and Hebrew Year. (also gathering of the harvest)

Some may include, Shemini Atz’eret with the days of Sukkot or regard them as one, but this is not the case.  Shemini At’zeret was to be a sloemn assembly of its own.

Some Sukkot observances carry over into Shemini At’zeret; seeing as it is the closing the Sukkot memorial.  Readings, from the Torah & Nebi’im, along with services in most synagogues/temples of Hebraic peoples are read, where a Prayer/Psalm for Rain [Tefillat Gesham], for the year ahead, (for the crops, that were to be grown) may be recited.

I welcome you all to yet another posting in one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee).

This is Lidj Yefdi, wishing everyone a very blessed recogition of Hoshana!
This Hebraic celebration culminates the appointed time of the High Holy days congruent with Sukkot.
The final day of Sukkot brings us to Hoshanna Raba.  Hoshanna Raba, is the commemoration of the “Supplication,” or the “Divine Judgment.”

Orthodox Jews, and other Chassidic sects gather for a special service.  In this special service the participants make seven (7) circuits in ritual, around the synagogue with their made lula(b)v & etrons.  (*symbolic of Sukkot)

In variating sects, the Shofar(or the trumpet) is sounded after every circuit is made.  The Torah scrolls are taken out of the made Arks on this commemoration day as well.  Reasoning behind these ritualistic principles is recognizing the “Final Judgment” in the last days from the initiation of the seasonal appointed times. (Hebraic holidays)*

Judgment , in doctrine of the European Jewish theory, for the new year is sealed on Yom Kippur but, not delivered until Hoshanna.  These teachings come from the original interpretation of the celebration, and memorials of the Hebrew people, especially from the time of the 2nd Temple of Jerusalem.

In the Midrash, there is also another application containing the willow.  “The “Day of the Willow,” when on the seventh day, traditionally participants in Hoshanna Raba take a willow and have it present with the other “4 Species” or “4 Kinds”.  (of the symbols from Sukkot)*

Now, from an Ethiopic perspective and a Christian one, Hosanna (Hoshanna) takes on a bit a different interpretation.  But, repentance is most certainly a theme echoed in it as well.  Not to mention the commemoration has a different orientation in the timing of the celebratory recognition.  But, also with that repentance is the recognition of the significance of Christ, of course.  Christ rode into Jerusalem on the back of donkey(ass) with the Disciples and the palms, were carried by all of the people.  Very significant when you are able to compare this from Scripture to the practices and tradtions of the Jewish and Hebrew people celebration Hoshanna.

I welcome you all to a new regeneration of cycle Torah readings!  This is another one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee).

Again, this is Lidj Yefdi, wishing everyone a very blessed Sukkot!  Other names for this High Holy Day or appointed time as translated from the Hebrew language comes to us as; the “Feast of Booths,” the “Tabernacles/Festival of Tabernacles,” or as the “Ingathering.”

The Festival of Sukkot begins on the 15th, of the Hebrew month of Tishrei & is observed for seven days. (five days after Yom Kippur)  Sukkot, is in many ways very opposite to the observance of Yom Kippur, especially as ones would know and find it among peoples of today.  One reason in saying this is that Sukkot is very joyful and it is commonly referred to in modern day Jewish prayer and literature as Z’man Símcḥatéinu זמן שמחתינו; more literally translated to the English language as: “The Season of Our Rejoicing.”  Now in a similar fashion of the celebration of Passover and Shabuot, Sukkot has a significance that is doubled in a sense, especially when pertaining to its historical and agricultural perspectives.

In a historical manner, the celebration of Sukkot commemorates the (40) forty-year period during which the children of Israel were wandering in the wilderness, living in temporary shelters.  Hence, for the term “Feast or Festival of Tabernacles,” in the similar way the Tabernacle/Tent of Meeting and encampment of the children of Israel was constructed while making the Exodus with the significant role of the furnishings playing their respective parts.    Agriculturally, Sukkot is a harvest festival and is sometimes referred to as Chag Ha-Asífחג האסף, translating to the “Festival of Ingathering.”

Sukkot is the third and the culmination of the Shalosh Regalim, or commonly known as the “Three Pilgrimage Festivals of Israel.”

Sukkot is a very joyous festival/feast day, & there are various ways of maintaining observances.  In the final of day of the memorial of Sukkot, the day is referred to as HoShanna Rabbah, which is a special observance with the use of bundling willow branches.

Ras Tafari Renaissance Revelations wishes that all have had a peaceful, Yom Kippur.  The Day of Atonement, is the holiest day of the year on the Hebraic/Jewish calendar.

Jewish people traditionally observe this holy day with a 25-hour period of fasting, and intensive prayer, where many usually spend most of the day in synagogue services. Yom Kippur(or the “Day of Atonement”) completes the annual period known in Judaism as the High Holy Days(or the “Days of Awe”-Yamim Noraim-ימים נוראים‎).

Some scholars, and others say there is a link to Kapporet, the “mercy seat” or covering of the Ark of the Covenant.

During the Days of Awe, a Jewish/Hebrew person tries to amend his or her behavior and seek forgiveness for wrongs done against God and against other human beings.

As one of the most culturally significant in Hebrew holidays, Yom Kippur is known and observed as a memorial by Hebrews, Jewish people,Israelites, & many others the like across cultural heritages.

Coming from Ethiopic Hebraic perspective, Yom Kippur or the “Day of Atonement,” is known as Astesryo Q’en/ Seryet Q’en – አስተስርዮ ቀን/ ሰርየት ቀን.

As the holiest day of the year, the “Day of Atonement,” one of the main reasons for the season is repentance.  Repentance, leading toward choosing to live as a Ts’addikim– צדיקים, or “one of the righteous“. On the flipside, one could choose to become or continue in the ways of the Reshai’im-רשעים, or the “wicked.”

This choice is to made, because the Ts’addikim will be written into the Sefer HaChayim-ספר החיים, or the “Book of Life,” & the Rashai’im to the “Book of Death.”

This celebration is attributed to the Ethiopian account of the “Finding of the True Cross.”  The celebration of MäsQäl is observed on the 17th day of the Ethiopian month of Meskerem.

The legend speaks of Queen Eleni finding the cross by a revelation with the use of a bonfire, in the 4th century AD, (about the time Ethiopia, officially became the first Christian nation).

The fire that was lit would lead to the Cross, so the Queen ordered the people of Jerusalem to bring wood for a large pile.  In Ethiopia, the custom of the bonfire, once completed the ashes from the bonfire are used for the Passion Week’s Ash Wednesday.

During the celebration, there is singing, chanting, and many beautiful colors all around.  MesQel is always to take place after the Ethiopian New Year, a seasonal holiday after the rains, for the coming of the Sun.

The celebration of MesQel, is also known as the Exaltation of the True Cross.  Now, in another peculiar manner in which has become so synonymous with the operations of postings and quite clearly the overall thinking here at Ras Tafari Renaissance, along with many of our affiliates; we relay to you once again, that another Ethiopian commemoration has a correspondence with another Hebrew, or what the world knows as Jewish observance.

The Hebrew observance that corresponds with this celebration of Meskel, or the Finding/Exaltation of the True Cross is Yom Kíppūr – יוֹם כִּיפּוּר.  In a incidence and coincidental pattern the Ethiopian & Hebraic/Jewish New Year meet in the beginning days of the fall season. (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)  From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation, where the current year is 2013/7513; these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known, also as, AdímT’u – አድምጡ.  This would calculate as the 11th – ፲፭, & the 12th ፲፮, of the month of Mäskäräm – መስከረም.  The Ethiopic calendar is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet – ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic, which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez – (ግእዝ).

Jeshurun, or “Israel the Upright,” grew greatly, but took the wonderful position it had with God for granted. ✡ Rosh HaShanah: Ras Tafari ✤ (Yamim Nora’im – ימים נוראים) ✡

Welcome, once again, to another posting here at Ras Tafari Renaissance!  On this post, the subject which we intend to cover is ushering in Hebrew Observances, that should be relevant and incorporated into the Ras Tafari consciousness.

Since the inception of Ras Tafari it has been clear that the Ras Tafarians proclaim ancestral heritage with Hebraic peoples of antiquity.  Sharing ancestry with the Imperial House of David’s, Solomonic Dynasty, in Ethiopia; by way of King Solomon & the Queen of Sheba.  With that said, seeing how Ethiopia has become the ONLY Christian church upholding its Hebraic traditions intact, it should hold a critical place in the Ras Tafari faithful and those alike’s minds to adhere to original Christian and Hebraic practices.

In this portion of the Scripture studies’, Moses tells the people that adherence and obedience to the laws, which they were given/taught would allow them to prolong their days in the land, & make them fruitful in abundance; but, turning away would lead them to destruction.  Only turning to the ways which the children of Israel were taught would the God of the Hebrews, accept them again into grace.

Because of their waywardness, God spoke to Moses, telling him to teach the Israelites that the covenant would not only pertain to them alone, though Israel would be a people to God(himself); but, the covenant would also include those that would stand with Israel, once upon hearing the words of the book of the Law.  Those who would not hearken to the word, of course, would be a testament to the judgment of disobedience.

Knowing these things and that they were taught them, being the children of Israel, it would call to remembrance the Blessing & the Curse of the Law.

With that said, we also take the time to study the parsha of W(V)eyelech’k – וַיֵּלֶךְ , which corresponds with the portion of Musey’m Heydo – ሙሴም ሄዶ.

In this second installation of the Sabbath readings for this week; Moses prepared the children of Israel to go into the land of Promise.  Moses, being an hundred and twenty years old, knew that the time had come when God said that he would not cross the Jordan.  Because, he did not sanctify God, at the waters of Meribah, he would go to sleep with his fathers, instead of enter into the Promised Land.  Moses is instructed to charge Joshua ben-Nun(the son of Nun) to lead the people in the ways God had commanded them.

Moses then, wrote the words of the Law, and had them placed into the Ark of the Covenant by the priests(ie. the Levites) and all the elders of Israel.

He also instructed the children of Israel to set apart the Seventh Year as the “Year of Release”(or the Shemittah-), during the time of the Feast of Tabernacles/Booths/Ingathering(ie. Sukkot-סֻכּוֹת), all of Israel should come to hear the Law, to call it to their remembrance for their following generations to know and obey.

Moses brought Joshua in the presence of all Israel to bless him, give him his charge, where God was present with them.  For God knew that the children of Israel would turn away from the ways that they were taught.

Ras Tafari Renaissance Revelations is here wishing you all a VERY HAPPY ETHIOPIAN NEW YEAR!

RRR is proud to have been here studying, giving commentary, and sharing in the fellowship of Ras Tafari.  It has been thoroughly enjoyable, fulfilling to see the responses from all the people from all walks of life, seeking truth, wherever it may be found when pertaining to the Scriptures, (in the light of Ras Tafari), so on & so forth.

We have come through OUR Hebrew-Lunar cycle of time-keeping and will continue our Torah for the Hebraic year, which has brought to year 5780-5781.  But, in OUR Ethiopic-Solar New Year (2013/7513 EC). Which marks quite a significant year, prophetically from a Biblical perspective.

We also would like to alert ones that in the United States of America 🇺🇸, in & around the Washington, D.C., areas; in the capital houses the largest concentrated area of Ethiopian diasporans.  In this American capital area the Ethiopian New Year has been added officially* to the religious national recognized holidays. All due to credit to the economically upwardly mobile and politically active diasporans; 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generations.

Though, the year has had its times of trial and times of joy, & some seem to outweigh the other, we all have come though another year, in hopes of seeing many more. (RRR wishes peace, and prosperity to you all!)

Going forward, RRR, has a few short announcements to make…There has begun a process for bringing forward hard copies of this past year’s Sabbath readings with RRR commentary, & availability with be provided for all of those who, wish seek to retain a copies. (Please, stand by?…)
