RSS# 6 (ትውልድም ይህ ነው / תּוֹלְדֹת)

Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellassie I & Itege Menen Asfaw,

I welcome you all to a new regenartion of cycle Torah readings!  This is another one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee).

I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with a willing mind and heart(ready to learn), you will receive more than what you might have asked for, in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) into the study of the Scriptures.

So,with this Hebrew Shabbot(or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to the opening of  the Torah portions with Toldot – תּוֹלְדֹת.  On the Jewish or Hebraic Calendar in this year 5780, this Sabbath day would probably fall on the 1st –  א, & the 2nd – ב, of the month of Kislew(v) – כִּסְלֵו, for this week, in this mode of study; for those out in the diaspora or outside of Jerusalem/Israel.  (The Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon) &, from an Ethiopic-Christian perspective, in what may be known as the year 2012/7512, on the Ethiopic calendar.  This calculation, with its readings from the Scriptures, would align to the 3rd – ፫, & the 4th – ፬,  of the (ወርኀ)month of Ch’ədár – ኅዳር.  In the Scriptures, this portion of study would also be known as Tíwíld’m Y’h Näw – ትውልድም ይህ ነውThe Ethiopic calendar is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet-ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic, which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez-(ግእዝ).

Readings:

Genesis 25: 19- 28:9

Malachi 1: 1- 2:7

Romans 9: 1-31

Samuel 20: 18-42*

toldot - parsha4

This week’s portion of the study of the Scriptures, is Toldot, by Hebrew meaning “generations“, pertaining to descent.  Coincidentally, the readings begin the Rebekah enduring a long period of time where she was barren; having no child with her husband, IsaacIsaac loved Rebekah dearly, & pleaded God on her behalf.

[Gen. 25: 20-21]

His prayers were accounted for and God blessed them, because Rebekah conceived.

[Gen. 25: 19-23]

Rebekah & Isaac

Rebekah was due to give birth to twins, in which God spoke to her, saying that that were two nations that struggled within her.

Two manner of people, that would be separated from her.  One would be stronger than the other, and the older would serve the younger.  Thus Esau & Jacob were born to, Rebekah &Isaac.  Esau was a skilled hunter, Jacob was a simple man, dwelling in tents, wholesome.  But, leaving a man of the field to match wits with a man of intellect, Jacob was able to convince Esau to give up his birthright. (But Esau, despising his birthright made it all but difficult)

[Gen. 25: 24-34]

After convincing Esau to give up his birthright, Jacob, with the help of his mother Rebekah also was able to receive a blessing from his father, Isaac. ( a blessing that was meant for Esau)

Esau, even took wives from among the Hittites, which was of concern for Rebekah & Isaac.

[Gen. 26]

Isaac blessing Jacob -by Gustave Dore' from the 1865 La Sainte Bible

Esau, then recognizes what his brother has done to him & despises him for it.  Rebekah, once again help Jacob, making him flee to her brother Laban, because his brother’s anger was kindled against.  Rebekah also sought that her son Jacob should not take a wife from among the children of Heth.

[Gen. 27]

Jacob & Laban (the Syrian/Aramaen)

Esau seeing that he blessed Jacob, & charged him not to take a wife of the children of Canaan, he(Esau) went to Ismael, & took wives of his people.

[Gen. 28: 1-9]

Readings:

Exodus 27:20- 30:10

Ezekiel 43:10-27

Hebrews 13:10-17

Now, in summation of the study we have in front of us; Moses is told by God that the children of Israel are to complete the construction of a sanctuary in the wilderness.  Other instruments and furniture, for the Tabernacle, that would be needed included: olive oil for the lampstand in what would be known as the Holy Place.

[Ex. 27: 20]

[Ex. 25: 31]And thou shalt make a candlestick of pure gold: of beaten work shall the candlestick be made: his shaft, and his branches, his bowls, his knops, and his flowers, shall be of the same.

Also, in this portion of the study of the Scriptures, the subject deals mostly with the “everlasting flame” of the candlestick.

[Ex. 25:31-40]

[Hebrews 12: 29]"...For our GOD is a consuming fire..."

Olive Oil(oil of anointing [Ex.25:6]) was to be used for light, including the other furniture

The priesthood is also established in the heritage of the Levites(Hebrew Israelite Tribe of Levi), along with the priestly garments that were to be constructed & worn only when service in the Tabernacle was to be performed.

brestplate of hakohen(High Priest)

Moses, by the instruction of God, ordains Aaron, his brother, to become the High Priest, along with his sons and the rest of his descendants. Here, Aaron’s wife, Elisheba, whom was the daughter of Amminadab ben Judah(son of Judah), sister to Nahshon ben Amminadab(son of Amminadab), of the tribe of Judah, became the Matriarch of the Cohanim (priests).

Egyptian Diety Khepri

Egyptian Diety Khepri

The sacred covering of the Ark of The Covenant, which the Cohanim were to give service to, on behalf of the children of Israel, is called the Kapporeth – כפורת; insomuch as finding out why the picture placed above, is of what might be known as Khepri.  I’ll leave it up to anyone who’s curious enough to take look for themselves, to find out more on “Khepri,” and its possible connection to the Kapporeth.  I would elaborate more on how linguistics also play a part in the understanding of Scripture, but that’s pretty apparent.  Though, it may seem, out of context that there could possibly be more connections of the Hebrew/Jewish thought and practice, to the Ancient Egyptian Mysteries or the traditional Judeo-Christian aspects of this, it meets more points of similarity than most people can see.  For example, in Hebrew, the “Holy of Holies” is named as the Kodesh HaKodeshiyimקֹדֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִׁים , and semantically similar in the ancient Ge’ez, or old Ethiopic language of the Ethiopian-Jews and Ethiopia entirely, the same is called the Q’edeste Q’ddusan – ቀደስተ ቅዱሳን.

….…the curtains of the outer court of the Tabernacle were to be made of brass(copper), for an enclosure…

✡ Abïy Ts’om – ዓቢይ ጾም ☩ Pūrïm – פּוּרִים ✡

Greetings in the names of their Imperial Majesties, Empress Menen Asfaw & Emperor Haile Sellassie I, of Ethiopia.

This is Lidj Yefdi, bringing you, yet another post from Ras Tafari Renaissance. I sincerely appreciate all of the positive vibes and feedback I’ve received from those who have reasoned & spoken well of the postings here. MAY JAH DELIVER MY GRATITUDE & BLESS YOU ALL EXCEEDINGLY!

So, today in Jerusalem and wherever there are adherents to Hebrew/Jewish traditions and such are celebrated the Fast of Esther, which will culminate with the celebration of Purim – פּוּרִים .

HEBREW CALENDAR2

Purim, is the celebration of the deliverance of the Jews that were under the rule of the Persian Empire. [SIDE-NOTE] FLASH FORWARD, in Scripture the Persian Empire(or otherwise known to be the Medes, were apart the four kingdoms prophecy, which Nebuchadnezzer’s dream, was interpreted by Daniel, for him by way of God’s revealing).

Now, I apologize for not having the explanation of the Ethiopian Christian commemoration of the Great Fast or Abiy Ts’om in more detail, as I , my self have been incognito this past couple of weeks restoring my own spiritual & mental health.  This time of year leads up a sort of renewal of the faith among observers.

As we have entered into the 3rd week of the celebration in “Mikurab” or loosely translated into the Synagouge or the “gathering.

With ever seven days, there are specific readings from the scriptures, that coincide respectively with the time & reason for the season.

According to this years’ calculations; Feb 20 – April 15, 2017, is the Ethiopian Orthodox Great Holy Lenten Fast will be in line with 55 days culminating on “Easter” April 16, 2017, observed by followers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.

Now, with Esther and the story from Persia ( Iran ), The Fast of EstherTa’anit Ester:תַּעֲנִית אֶסְתֵּר  ,” is a Jewish/Hebrew fast from dawn until dusk on Purim eve, commemorating the three-day fast observed by the Jewish people in the story of Purim. If the date of the Fast of Esther falls on Shabbat, the fast is instead observed on the preceding Thursday. Like other minor fasts, Ta’anit Esther begins at dawn (first light) and ends at nightfall (full dark).

The Persian Empire came after the Babylonian Captivity.

Nebuchadnezzar-statue2

The Jews/Hebrews in Persia were freed from the hand of Haman, who had gained favor in the sight of the king Ahasuerus (whom is also accounted for as being Xerxes I). No, Xerxes I, is not the Persian king of the movie “300” dealing with the Spartans. THAT WAS PURE HOLLYWOOD ENTERTAINMENT; THIS IS HISTORICAL FACT. Xerxes, was the king of Persia whom gave favor to Haman the Agagite. But loved deeply, Esther, whom was the daughter of Mordecai, the Jew.

achaedyn

Mordecai, instructed Esther to conceal her heritage from the king and all of his court, for she had been taken along with many other young women to be suited for the king of Persia, because he put away Vashti, from being queen. But upon the conflict of Mordecai vs. Haman; Haman sought to destroy ALL the Jews/Hebrews in Persia. Silver was the payment of Haman to the king to destroy the Jews, young old, men, women and children.

[Esther 2: 7- 3:15]

MAP_PERSIA

Vashti, refused the king’s request to appear before the king & his guests, which were nobles and princes throughout Persia and Media.

[Esther 1(entire Chpt)]

But, unknowingly Hadassah(Eshter), was of the people of Jews(Hebrews) by way of her adoption by Mordecai, who reverenced not Haman, as the king had wanted for those of the kingdom in Persia and Media.

In the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar, on its thirteenth day … on the day that the enemies of the Jews were expected to prevail over them, it was turned about: the Jews prevailed over their adversaries.

[Esther 9:1]

THE STORY OF HADASSAH(ESTHER) THE QUEEN

I&I would also like to give much, much thanks to the Lion of Judah Society, Inc., organization for their interpretation of Scriptures, historical events, & Ras Tafari dissemination of Ethiopian heritage in Africa, as well as, the diaspora. Here, I would like for you all to check out & consider the facts put forth here. Research, study & come to your own conclusions about the story of Hadassah(Esther) the Queen.

So, all -in-all to the Daughters of Zion, which I named this post,…I’am sure many of you are questioning that move. Well, its very simple! Women in society are many times are thought to be pushed to the backside of many important events, and happenings in this world we see today, but, clearly even in antiquity, women hold power and influence that they, themselves, sometimes are unable to recognize. Even, the power to save millions to the billions from despair.

But, for the Daughters of Zion, as well as, the Sons, the Scriptures clearly state that we are to remember Purim for all generations, and to keep them in writing.

[Esther 9:27-28]

Not to mention being the givers of life, nourishment, sustainability…and out right, “being the first teachers of human civilization(or every child) that comes to this world” _quoted from El Hajj Malik El Shabazz(Malcolm X) by way of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad. Sisters, mothers, daughters and women of our families the message you give to the child(children) they will give to the world. So please consider your illustrious position in the cosmology of this existence. & while we as Ras Tafari, Ethiopians, Hebrews, & Israelites, celebrate the essence of woman in the example of Queen Esther; I certainly hope, that the men will acknowledge the counterpart that was created to be the companion of ours.

In continuation of our study of the Scriptures, we come to the parsha of Miketz, Ethiopically known as BeKHwalam (Kehulet Amet BeKHwalam.)

miketz - parsha [7cows]

The last portion ended with Joseph, the son of Jacob(Israel), being sold by his own brothers, & through trials of times, Joseph found himself in Egypt.  As a prisoner in Egypt, he is still blessed by God grace.

miketz - parsha [seven ears of corn] Gen.41vrs5

Joseph, now in the company of other prisoners, (ie. the chief baker, and butler), interprets visions they’ve had.  The news of the gift that Joseph has, reaches the ears of the Pharaoh, & Pharaoh, inquires of Joseph assistance for a vision he cannot make sense of.

Pharaoh, summoned all of the magicians, of Egypt to interpret the dream troubling dreams he had been having.  But, surely, there was none of them who could interpret the dreams for him.  So, upon hearing about an Hebrew, in the dungeon, who seemingly interpreted dreams in accuracy, of other prisoners and others, Pharaoh, called for Joseph’s release; for he wished to see if Joseph could give an interpretation of his dreams.

[Gen. 41: 1-40]

miketz - parsha

Joseph, then was set in high regard to Pharaoh, by his command because he interpreted Pharaoh’s dream with such great understanding.  Pharoah called Joseph, Tz’aphnat Paneah’kh – צָפְנַת פַּעְנֵחַ, & he was given Asnath – אָסְנַת, the daughter of Potipherah, the priest of OnAsnath, bore Joseph, two sons, which he called Manasseh & Ephraim.  Because of Joseph’s interpretation of Pharaoh’s dream, many nations came to Egypt to buy food, for Joseph had stored for the years of famine that was great upon the land.  Jacob(Israel) sent his sons, all but the youngest, Benjamin, for he feared that something may happen equivalent to Joseph’s disappearance.

[Gen. 41: 40- 42:5]

miketz - parsha [Yosef ben Yaicob ben Ysrael(Tsafnat Paneach) - Asnat)Joseph(Tz’afnat Pa’aneahkh’) & Asenat(Asnat)

The sons of Israel, went into Egypt to buy things like grain, for the famine had left them with very little.  Joseph, saw his brethren, but they were unable to notice him for he was dressed in the apparel of Egyptian nobility.  There he confronted them as if, he were dealing with spies & commanded that they send their youngest brother along with them for Joseph had not seen Benjamin, with the others.  The brothers returned and told Jacob(Israel) what happened while they were in Egypt.  Judah, one of the brethren spoke firmly with Joseph, and their father Jacob(Israel), in the matter of their youngest brother, Benjamin.

[Gen. 42: 6 -43:17]

Joseph & his brother Judah

Judah consults with Joseph _ painting by James J. Tissot

Upon the return of all his brothers, with their youngest brother, Benjamin; Joseph made haste to see all of them together again.  Joseph, appealed to Pharaoh to bring his family to Egypt, for the famine was so great & he wished not to see his family struggle in the land of Canaan; Pharaoh permitted the Hebrews to enter in, on Joseph’s behalf.

Readings:

Genesis 12:1 – 17:27

Isaiah 40:27 – 41:16

Romans 4: 1-25

Leaving off with descendants of Noah, from the last portion of the Scripture studies, LeKH’ LeKH’a-לֶךְ-לְךָ is the set of readings for this Sabbath.

Abram of Ur, in Chaldea, a descendant of Noah, was spoken to by God.

[Gen. 12:1]

Ur(Chaldea), near the Euphrates & Tigiris rivers.

Abram, was told by God to leave his country and people, in Chaldea.  So Abram, left with Sarai(his wife), and Lot(his nephew) traveled south.  God sought to bless Abram, exceedingly.

[Gen. 12: 2-10]

Gen. 12:2 ; Gen.15:5

Famine in those lands took Abram to Egypt, where passed off his wife, as his sister; for he feared he would be killed because of her beauty, in the sight of the Egyptians.

lech lecha - parsha (abrmcov)

But, because of her beauty Pharaoh sought to entreat her, for he sought to make her a wife of his.  But, his mind was plagued because of Sarai(Abram’s wife).  So much so, that he confronted Abram about the situation and ended up sending on their way peacefully, with quite hefty caravan.

[Gen. 12: 10-20]

Abram's caravan leaving Egypt _ painting by James Tissot (1890's circa)

Abraham’s Caravan _ painting by James J. Tissot

While in Egypt, Abram and his family acquired very much, in riches.  But, if got to the point where there was strife among them, (within their camps).  Lot(Abram’s nephew) and Abram, consolidated to negotiate not to struggle with each other for there was so much land, that they need not quarrel over anything.

[Gen. 13: 1-12]

But, the men of Sodom, near where Abram had made a place for him cattle, herds, and possessions were a wicked and distasteful people.  Wickedness abounded so much so, to the point that Abram separated himself from among them, at Mamre, in Hebron.

[Gen. 13: 13-18]

The Three Altars of Abraham

War, in those days, between many kings of many nations, brought Sodom & Gomorrah to an expected destruction.

[Gen. 14: 1-24]

Melchizedeq

Fortunately, Abram was able to bring Lot out, just before meeting Melchizedek; the king of Salem.

Santa Pollinare Mosaic - Order of Melchizedek

Abram, was then blessed by God, in that by his wife Sarai, who was barren, would give birth to a son. (even in their old age)  Abram was given vision by God, that his seed would be innumerable, for he would be the father of many nations.  God instructed Abram, to make offerings, he did it & guarded it.

[Gen. 15: 1-11]

lech lecha - parsha [Tissot_Abram_Guarding_His_Sacrifice]

Then Abram had visions of the future generations of his to come.

[Gen. 15: 12-21]

Sarai, feeling as though she had been restrained by God from bearing any children, gave Abram, her maid, Hagar(Agar), who was an Egyptian, in attempt beget children of AbramHagar, conceived of Abram, but saw Sarai, differently afterwards. (by contempt)  Sarai, then feeling as though she brought about strife in Abram‘s house, she brought the plight to Abram, and wanted Abram to put her away.  God, complied because he sought to make the child of Hagar & Abram, a mighty nations of his own. (his name would be Ishmael)

[Gen. 16: 1-16]

Hagar & Isma'il (ibn Ibrahim)

Between Abram & God, was a covenant made: for he would the father of many nations, and be fruitful exceedingly, kings would be from him, the land between the two rivers would be of his possession, & the land of Canaan would be for an everlasting possession, his seed shall circumcise their flesh(males); also he & his wife would have new names.  Instead of Abram, his name would be Abraham & instead of Sarai, her name would be Sarah.

Abraham would also have a son, which he would name Isaac, his son Ishmael would grow to be a mighty nation.

[Gen. 17: 1-21]

And, these were the facets that made up, what is known as the Abraham Covenant

I welcome you all to a new regeneration of cycle Torah readings!  This is another one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (or Yefdeyah).

I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with a willing mind and heart(ready to learn), you will receive more than what you might have asked for, in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) into the study of the Scriptures.

So,with this Hebrew Shabbot(or Sabbath day) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to the opening of  the Torah portions with Nōăcḥ – נוֹחַ [נֹחַ.]  On the Jewish or Hebraic Calendar in this year 5777, this Sabbath day would probably fall on the 3rd-ג , the 4th-ד, of the month of Cḥeshw(v)an – חֶשְׁוָן, [this Hebraic month is also known as; Mar’Cḥeshw(v)an – מַרְחֶשְׁוָן, for this week, in this mode of study;  for those out in the diaspora or outside of Jerusalem/Israel.  (The Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon) &, from an Ethiopic-Christian perspective, in what may be known as the year 2009/2029/7509, on the Ethiopic calendar.  This calculation, with its readings from the Scriptures, would align to the 25th – ፳፭, & the 26th – ፳፮,  of the (ወርኀ)month of T’Qĭmt – ጥቅምት.  In the Scriptures, this portion of study would also be known as YeNōḥ – የኖኅ.  The Ethiopic calendar is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet-ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic, which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez-(ግእዝ).

**SHABBAT ROSH CḤODESH (CḤESHW[v]AN/Mar – CḤESHW[v[AN)***

rosh chodesh cheshwan-chehsvan (marcheshwan-marcheshvan)

As we enter into our second portion of the study of the Scriptures, we give thanks to Abba-Father, for his grace and seek continuously his knowledge & wisdom, earnestly.

This portion of study comprises the story of Noah and his three(3) sons, also the Tower of Babel.  Three very intricate stories, that have told & re-told from various perspectives.  But, in this compilation we focus on the ancient Hebraic, Ethiopic-Christian and the modern Ras Tafarian perspectives; mainly to stay on topic and bring forward a balanced viewpoint unbiased to the truth of these elaborate mythos.

noach - parsha [epic-of-gilgamesh-flood-myth]

In continuation of the Torah studies, on this Sabbath the times of Noah, are the focus.  The study portions deal mostly with the Great Flood, (which has a significant resemblance of the Epic of Gilgamesh mythos).

noach - parsha [great flood and the Ark]

This portion also deals with the building of Noah’s Ark, which God had commanded him to build for the coming of the Great Flood.  Mainly for the iniquity of the world.  The world before the flood had become extremely corrupted  and vain, so God had planned to “wash” the world in a sense, of its corrupted mentality.

After the Flood, Noah made an offering to God.  God at this point, vowed that

“the Earth would not again be cursed to the ground any more for man’s sake.  The imagination of man’s heart evil [vain] from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.”

noach - parasha [Urartu-MountAraratMap]

The studies also bring us to the truths and lies of the alleged “Curse of Ham.”

Supposedly in the interpretations of the story of Noah’s sons; the three men were of three different races.  Truthfully speaking we here at RRR, could not consent to this external Biblical interpretation of most of these commentators.

noach - parsha [shem ham yapheth]

Our reasoning can be found in the confirmation of the sciences that give a more profound elaboration of these ancient texts.  For example, in regards to the “RACE” question of the three sons of Noah; we clearly recognize that proven by science congruent to the Scriptures, there is only ONE race (human).

Greetings in the name of His & Her Imperial Majesties Qedamawi Haile Sellassie I & Itege Menen Asfaw,

RRR - prototype (2015-16)

I welcome you all to a new regeneration of cycle Torah readings!  This is another one of the many interpretations of the Scriptures from the light of Ras Tafari by, I, Lidj Yefdi (pronounced Lij, Yef-dee).

I assure you that if you are patient with me, come with a willing mind and heart(ready to learn), you will receive more than what you might have asked for, in seeking the perspective of a Ras Tafarian’s I-sight (eyesight) if those who actually open up their Bibles to read in a Jewish/Hebrew cycle of readings, & thoroughly discern, have come to seek insight) into the study of the Scriptures.  So,with this Hebrew Shabbot (or Shabbat) we move into the opening of the Torah portion with Mâṭṭōt-מַּטּוֹת, on the 1st –  א, & the 2nd – ב, of the month of Ab(v) – אָב, in the year of 5776. (the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)  From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation, where the current year is 2008/7508; these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known, also as Nägädōch – ነገዶች, on the 29th – ፳፱, & on the 30th – ፴, of the month (ወርኀ) of Hämlæy – ሐምሌ.  The Ethiopic calendar, which is solar (with its correspondence to the Sun) aligns to this Sabbath (or Senbet – ሰንበት) in the Ethiopian language of Amharic which is currently one of the languages of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (the other language being Ge’ez – ግእዝ).

Readings:

Numbers 30:2 – 32:42

Jeremiah 1:1 – 2:3

Matthew 5: 33-37

To follow up, on the last parsha/kífíl(portion) of the Scripture study, we’ve now to come to Mâṭṭōt-Nəgədōch, which both the Hebrew & Amharic words could be equivalent to “Tribes” in the English.

bechukotai - parsha (kinza- mattot negedoch)

At this point, Moses speaks to the heads of the tribes of Israel, on what God spoke about pertaining to vows.  When one of the children of Israel, were to make a vow or swear an oath to God, they were to uphold the words of that vow/oath.

If men were to make vows/oaths,(especially to God) they were to speak those words, which consisted of it and keep those words, which they had spoken.

[Numb. 30: 2-16]

chasid-chaiymanotegnawi8

If women were to make vows/oaths,(especially to God) even in the house of their fathers; if the father heard the vow & didn’t speak against it, then vow/(s) would stand & she would have to be completely responsible for every word of her vow/oath; the same applied if the woman had a husband, as well.

[Numb. 30: 3-16]

mattot - parsha (vow)3

{-when the Bible speak on these vows, it shows the countenance of the Hebrew men, willing to take on the burdens of accountability & responsibility for the women of their congregation.  Though women, could make oaths/vows, they were only held fully accountable; 1) if their father or husbands would allow them to take on the burdens of fulfilling a vow/oath, seeing as how Hebrew men, & men in general, would rather shoulder a burden/(s) for their households than see their women bear those strenuous experiences.  But women, of course, were free to choose to bear those burdens or not.  2) including those women who were widowed, & those that happened to be divorced}

mattot - parsha (vow)

God then spoke to Moses, to prepare the children of Israel, to avenge themselves, and those they lost during the plague, for the troubles that the Midianites brought upon them at the sin of Baal-Peor. (those Midianites that sought to destroy them along with the Moabites of Balak’s reign; ref. 41st Parsha Study), Moses sent a thousand, of each tribe of Israel along with Phineas. (son of Eleazar, grandson of Aaron) So, Israel warred against Midian & overtook them.

[Numb. 31: 1-24]

mattot - parsha [midian-arabia]

A general presumption of the whereabouts of Midian

The remains of Midian were shared among the children of Israel.  The cattle, riches, estates, and land; divided it all among the tribes.  The children of Israel even made an offering to God, for their triumph, for every one of them that took up arms had enough to spread/share among themselves.

[Numb. 31: 25-54]

Now, the children of the tribes of Reuben & Gad, came to Moses, Eleazar, and the princes of the congregation vying for land from the parts of Israel’s journey to the land of Canaan.  Though, the tribes of Reuben and Gad grew, and had much cattle, they sought to utilize the cattle in the part of the land that, seemingly was fit for raising and maintaining the like.

**DOUBLE – PORTION**

This Sabbath study, comprises Mattot & Masei, as a doubling for the readings of the Scriptures, to keep an adequate number of readings for this year’s cycle.

Readings:

Numbers 33:1- 36:13

Jeremiah 2: 4-28; chpt. 3:4

James 4: 1-12

These readings for Masei – מַסְעֵי , are usually read in conjunction with the previous readings for Matōt; in the Hebrew Torah alignment.  These portion (parsha/kífíl) of the Scriptures in the Ethiopic-Christian sense, come to us as, Gūzō – ጉዞ.

masei - parsha2

So, as we continue in our studies, in preparation of the conclusion of the Holy Bible’s Book of Numbers; the journeys from out of Egypt to the land of Canaan is shown again to us, to retrace the steps of the children of Israel.  From Rămesēs to Succoth, in and around the fifthteenth day of the Hebrews’ first month, Israel journeyed out of Egypt.  What really can be assessed by “journeys”, is that the wilderness wandering Israelites had not came to grips with the realization that the their 40 years was a testing ground.

[Numb. 33: 1-49]

masei - parsha (cities of refuge)2

Then God gave specific instructions for taking possession of the land which was promised.  In the plains of Moab, God spoke these words to Moses, for him to tell the children of Israel.

[Numb. 33: 50-56]

masei - parsha [12 tribes land depositary]

More instructions were explained, with the extent of specifying the borders of the land, and the portions which would be apportioned to each tribe.

[Numbers Chpt. 34]

naso - parsha [12_Tribes__Encampment_Positions]

Now, God also spoke to Moses about preserving things for the tribe of Le(w)vi, seeing as how God had placed on them, that they should not be apportioned land in the same sense as the rest of the tribes. (along with other aspects) The Levites were given portions of land which were adjacent to the rest of the tribes and their possessions of land.

[Numb. 35: 1-8]

masei - parsha (cities of refuge)

With the setting up of, certain places for the tribe of Le(w)vi, there also had to be a setting up of places for refuge/cities of refuge.  These cities of refuge were to be places of solitude, but most of all they were to be places of judgment to hold people accountable for their actions in this land which had been given the Hebrews.

[Numb. 35: 9-34]

masei - parsha [daughters of zelophehad_(manasseh-yosef)]

Now, remembering the daughters of Zelophehad, who came before the congregation to vie for the inheritance of their father, for he died and bear no son to inherit his due property, as a son of Israel.  ’s five daughters appealed to received his portion as their due inheritance, and Moses, after consultation of God, along with the congregation granted that the daughters of Zelophehad, take up their father’s possessions as their own.   But of course, the responsibility as daughters of Israel, were to be upheld in the taking up of inheritance among the Hebrews.

(the Hebrew Calendar corresponds to a Lunar cycle of the Moon)  From an Ethiopic-Christian perspective and calculation, where the current year is 2008/7508; these readings from the Scriptures would align to what is known, also as BáláQ – ባላቅ, on the 15th – ፲፭, & on the 16th – ፲፮, of the month (ወርኀ) of Hämlæy – ሐምሌ.

Readings:

Numbers 22: 2 – 25:9

Micah 5:6 – 6:8

Romans 11: 25-32

As we go forward in our studies, this Sabbath study, Israel after conquest had grown strong in the plain of Moab.  A king of Moab, who’s name was Balak, had seen what the children of Israel did to their adversaries in the habitations that were adjacent to his dominion.

[Numb. 22: 2-4]

King Balak, then sent messengers to a known “sorcerer“, or man of secret knowledge, whom wasn’t an Israelite; his name was called BalaamBalak devised a plan to have the children of Israel cursed; for they grew strong, the king and the people of Moab feared Israel.   So, it seemed to Balak, that if somehow he could have the children of Israel diverted from their focus then, they could be defeated and driven out of the lands, which they had now possessed.

[Numb. 22: 5-6]

balak - parsha [Moses-transjordan-1250]

The elders of Moab, along with the elders of Midian, together plotted against the children of Israel.  As messengers of Balak, the king of Moab, willing to compensate, for this endeavor, they went to Balaam, in a place called Pethor to present the words of Balak.

[Numb. 22: 7]

Midian & Moab, conspire against Israel _ [Numb. 22:4]

Midian & Moab, conspire against Israel _ [Numb. 22:4]

So, Balaam’s take is cordial with the king of Moab’s messengers & he welcomes them to stay the night, while he utilizes some time, to deliberate with God, whether the children of Israel could be cursed, & how to go about doing so.  God(YHWH), comes to Balaam, in a dream, and speaks with him about the men, who have come to him, & for what purpose.  Balaam says to God, that the men are of, Balak-king of Moab, and they sought him to curse the children of Israel.  After consultation with God, Balaam is not permitted to curse the children of Israel, nor to go with the messengers of Balak to Moab.  The next morning, Balaam tells the messengers that he cannot curse Israel nor go with them to the king; for God refused.  The messengers returned to Moab, and told the king, Balak, the news and the reasoning thereof.

[Numb. 22: 8-14]

But, Balak was persistent of Balaam to grant his request, so Balak sent others nobles of his influence to further persuade Balaam to Moab.  Balak offered Balaam, honour of distinction within his kingdom, but Balaam refused a second time; not budging a inch,  unwilling to incline his ear to the possible gifts of gold & silver, in abundance.

Balaam, to the messenger/nobles(servants) of Balak,

“…If Balak would give me his house

full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond

the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more…”

[Numb. 22: 18]

Though, with his mind already made up about the situation, which Balak was in high pursuit of, Balaam gives a place to rest for the messengers sent by Balak, for a second night.  In that night, God spoke with Balaam once more saying; if the men of Balak call for you to travel with them, go with them to Balak in Moab.  But, Balaam rose up in the morning and just went with the messengers of Balak, more than likely with no intent giving reverence to the words God spoke; mainly because God’s anger was then kindled against Balaam.  So, while Balaam was on the way to Moab, riding on his donkey, an angel of God appeared in their way, holding a sword-in-hand, standing as an adversary; but only the donkey’s eyes were open to see.  The donkey turned aside, out of the way, into a field, & Balaam smote the donkey in attempt to force the donkey to obey his command.  Balaam mounted the donkey again, and continued along the way, but, in the field there was a vineyard with a two walls on each side.  The angel appeared a second time; with the donkey’s eyes being the only one to see again, so the donkey threw itself towards one wall, crushing Balaam‘s foot into it.  Balaam, smote the donkey a second time.  The angel, then went further on the road and stood, this time in a narrow place where there was no place to turn, to the left or right.  This time seeing the angel, the donkey fell down under Balaam, angering him to smite the donkey a third time with a staff.  At this point, God gave speech to the donkey; and the donkey ask Balaam, why had it been struck three times, along the road.  Balaam answering the donkey said, gave reason because the donkey would not yield to his command, also mentioning that if he had a sword, he would’ve killed the donkey.

But, the donkey spoke once more saying, that was it not the same donkey which Balaam always had ridden; and had there ever been another day where the donkey acted in the manner that it did on this day.  Balaam answered no.  Then God opened Balaam‘s eyes to see the angel, as well; Balaam bowed down falling on his face.  Then the angel explained why the appearances were made and had not the donkey turned off the road those three times, Balaam would have been slain.

[Numb. 22: 15-35]

Balaam & his ass(donkey) met by the Angel _ Holman Bible (1890) illustrastions

After Balaam‘s encounter on the road to Moab, he comes to Balak, but Balak, unknowing of whether his request had been answered officially or not, Balak lets Balaam know that he is not prepared to fulfill the giving of a honorable title or position that was previously promised to him, since he does not know if Balaam had come to Moab, to acknowledge the request of cursing Israel or not.  Balaam goes through the process of seemingly preparing to curse Israel, but, again an inquiry must be made to God(even of his{Balaam’s} psuedo-sorceric powers); this time with the words of God coming to Balak through Balaam.

[Numb. 22: 36-41]

Balak & Balaam

Balak & Balaam

Balaam has Balak set up seven altars upon a place called Kirjath-huzoth.  There atop that high place overlooking the children of Israel, Balak did as Balaam said, in setting up seven altars.  The seven altars  had a bullock and a ram on each, as offerings & while Balak awaited an answer from Balaam; Balaam inquired of God what was next. God met Balaam, and Balaam told God that the seven altars were in place with their offerings.  God then told Balaam to return to Balak & he shall speak.  Balaam returned to Balak & then God’s words came through Balaam.

Balaam to Balak,

“…How shall I curse, whom God

hath not cursed? or how shall defy,

whom the LORD hath not defied?…”

Balak, the king of Moab, unsatisfied with the results atop Kirjath-huzoth, pleaded with Balaam to attempt again to curse Israel from another vantage point.  So, he brought Balaam to the field of Zophīm(atop Pisgah)
built the seven altars again, and put the offerings in place.  There he awaited a second answer from Balaam.  Balaam, spoke again to God, & God told him to return to him again & the words would be put in his mouth.

In spite of two blessings from Balaam, Balak proposes one more attempt to curse Israel, from another place.  Then he brought Balaam to Peor, that looked out toward Jeshimon.  The pattern of the seven altars and offerings were put into place once more; Balaam, himself, seeing that it pleased God to bless Israel, turned toward thew wilderness, seeing the children of Israel in their tents, seeing the order of Israel.  Balaam, then blessed Israel, yet a third time & cursed those, who would curse them.

Israel dwelt in Shittim, but then began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab; sacrificing and bowing down to their gods, joining themselves to Baal-Peor, and angering the God of Israel.  God, then spoke to Moses, instructing about taking heads of those who commit treason upon Israel and God.  Moses, gathers the judges of Israel & tells them to slay any of them that have joined themselves to Baal-Peor.

Now, in continuance of our studies of Torah, we come to the parsha(portion) of Korah’.  Now, in this study of the Scriptures, a Levite, named Korah’ (ben Izhar- son of Izhar), joins himself wth Dathan & Abiram, who are Reubinites(of the Tribe of Reuben), and two-hundred & fifty princes of Israel.  This group began a rebellion, that challenged the authority of Moses and Aaron, among the children of Israel.

[Numb. 16:1-19]

God instructed Moses and Aaron, to get away from Korah and his rebellious few, and tell the children of Israel to separate themselves as well; for he would consume them

God then, spoke to Moses to tell Eleazar(Aaron’s son; a Priest of Levi), to take the censors of Korah, which they took in the Tabernacle for the fire and the incense, and make them broad plates for a covering of the altar.  “They shall be a sign to the children of Israel.”

[Numb. 16:36-40]

The next day the children of Israel, murmured against Moses & Aaron, saying, “…they killed people of God…,” and then a plague fell upon them(Israel) and more died, even after those of Korah’s Rebellion suffered judgment.

God then, instructed Moses to gather the staffs of the Princes Of Israel; one for each of the tribes (12) and adding one more the tribe of Levi, in which, Aaron would be the head.  (making that thirteen [13] staff-rods).  God would then choose the staff to show where he would place his authority among the children of Israel, to put an end to their murmuring.  Moses, took the staffs and placed them in the Tabernacle of Witness.

[Numb. 17: 1-7]

The very next morning, Moses entered into the Tabernacle, only to find that Aaron’s rod, had blossomed and brought forth buds, and also yielded almonds.  Moses brought forth the staff of Aaron, by God’s command to be a witness/memorial to Israel of God’s will way.  Whomsoever go against God’s way would not share in his rest.

God then spoke to Aaron, saying, that he and his sons (lineage), were to perform the duties of service in the Tabernacle, so no wrath would anymore fall upon Israel.  The Levites were to administer the reception of of offerings made by the children of Israel to God in the Tabernacle; but they wouldn’t have an inheritance as the rest of the children of Israel(Tribes) had.  The reason being was & is, because the “tithes” of Israel would be given to them by God.

[Numb. 18:1-24]
